There's an application you have to fill out...

You should check out the other section "The dating game" for more details....

A question about joining...If you have never done IDP, would it be better to wait and try it out in a few public leagues before throwing your hat into the Zealots ring?

No, it only takes about a year to adjust to if your active and put in the time to learn.

The IDP forum on this board is frequented by some good minds who are good both with theory and specific player evaluations, so that resource alone should help you. also, in my zealots league there were a couple of people who had not played IDP leagues before who were just as competitive as those who were long time IDPers.

I don't think so. I joined Z30 last year without having played IDP before. My strategy in the vet draft was to take some good IDPers early since I felt better about finding offensive sleepers and waiver wire pickups than IDPers. Of course, I picked Udeze, Arrington, DJ Williams and Bryan Scott early and they were all duds last year. But Schobel, M Peterson and Polamalu carried me to a division title. Of course, this year my division mates will be EBF and Chaos Commish, so I may be about to get smoked. :D
