Welcome to FBG!Beason wasn't in the nickel packages all summer.
Williams played in the nickel last year and, according to the postgame coach statements, was expected to last weekend. There was no explanation for why he did not. Williams also sat in the second half in favor of Stephen Nicholas.
There's a thread on the front page detailing the current opinion on each team's every down backers.
I'm still stuck with starting one of them though.. I would guess Williams is still not quite match fit, but I still don't see the thread you mention that explains Beason's lack of cover duty...
I have yet to find a source that answers that question. What we know:1. The coaching staff appeared excited that Williams was to be their WLB.2. Williams missed most of the offseason with an injury that could limit his tackling.3. The team "reached" to draft a LB (Stephen Nicholas) to play the WLB position.4. Williams tried really hard to come back much earlier than most have from this injury.5. Williams was supposed to start last week, rotate to be kept "fresh" and play all the nickel snaps.6. Williams played last week, but not in the nickel and sat the entire second half.7. There's been no mention of an injury/conditioning issue.Reading between the lines, this is my best guess. Williams was motivated to come back from a difficult injury by his FA year and the presence of Nicholas, who played well in camp. Holding him out of the nickel, then benching him in the second half is telling. Based on the apparent plan, it suggests that his play was the issue. It's unlikely we'll know for sure until the injury reports roll out and we see the starting lineup/nickel alignment this week. I don't like how point 5 above got to point 6, though.
