Jon Beason in week 10 (1 Viewer)

Not to give away subscriber content, but Norton has submitted two conflicting stances on Beason this week between his weekly projections and his Eyes of the Guru article.

I'm curious to know what others think. Is Oakland really that bad of a matchup for LB's? I thought Beason had moved into that "never bench" category.

Discuss. :scared:

I think Oakland ran 25 plays last week. They got three first downs. Carolina's D is better than Atlanta's. It's hard to imagine him getting more than 4 or 5 solos unless the Oakland offense magically comes alive.

I'd only bench Beason if you've got a clearly better option. He's nearly matchup independent for me, but the Raiders are a complete mess and there's a major opportunity risk with him this week. It's similar to the bench Patrick Willis vs the Lions call from a few weeks back. Willis, in his worst weeks, can still be a five solo guy. There's enough data now to trust that playing a guy like Stewart Bradley against one of the league's best matchups (NYG) over Beason isn't entirely unreasonable. But benching him for another player with a marginal matchup, etc, is still a risk. Beason has plenty of big play potential, and part of the reason he's matchup proof is that he's a good bet to boost a bad tackle matchup with a big play.

I've no idea why John's got him projected to an 8-2 this week. I'd be reluctant to project him to 6 solos myself.

I tend to agree that Beason could have a low tackle number this week.

What do you all think about Thomas Davis' numbers this week?

Maybe an INT or sack? Some low tackle numbers, but a chance for a big play or 2?

Thanks, Jene.I'm looking at Crowder or Barnett as my only two alternatives. Crowder has a bad matchup vs. Seattle, and Barnett has a good one vs. Minny.Objectively, I should start Barnett, but I've been burned by him a bunch this year. I guess he's more of a lock for five solos or so than even Beason this week, but his upside is so low. What the heck happened to this guy?.....oh well, that's another topic all together.

This guy is a STUD. Would never consider benching him in any league that starts 3 LB.

If you only start 2 LB and you have Willis and Ryans then sure you might play matchups. But that situation doesen't seem very likely to me.

Holy crap I'm glad I didn't bench Beason.

I've started using a new method to pick my starters that puts a lot more weight on the players weekly averages and the opponent's points allowed to that position and it has been money the last two weeks for my IDP's.

I might scratch it for the offensive guys, though, because I started Cotchery and Braylon over Lance Moore and Kevin Walter. :tfp:

OK, so Oakland turned out to be an OK matchup, but this week Beason faces the LB abyss known as the Detroit Lions.

If you have a good player with a decent matchup or an average player with a great matchup, I suggest sitting Beason....but just this once.

I'm sitting him in favor of Cooper vs. Steelers & James vs. Redskins.

:lmao:Wow, I actually made the right decision 2 weeks in a row.So now, I'm sticking with Beason from here on out, just so I don't jinx myself.
