I am not a fan of the so called czar, so I am waiting before I consider this true.Anyone have other confirmation of this. There is also a discussion in the shark pool about this czar guy saying Harrison and Addai will play....and that the czar is not that reliable.
Did you watch the game? Gamebook shows him at WLB and Diggs at MLB. I'm going to assume that Beason is playing all three downs regardless. He started at MLB and looked good. Something like 13 total tackles (8 solos).
Yeah I watched game and he did start in the middle. Don't know why gamebook shows otherwise. This confirms it.http://www.panthers.com/Gameday/Default.aspx?id=20392Did you watch the game? Rookie Jon Beason, who started at middle linebacker and led the Panthers with 13 tackles, could hardly speak in the victorious locker room.
“Right now I’m just really emotional,” said Beason, who kept Saints running back Reggie Bush in check for most of the game. “It was a great game. It wasn’t one guy. Everybody stepped up and did their part. When it was on the line, we came out with the victory.
I did watch the game and Beason was at MLB.He was every bit as good as his numbers. Made plays sideline-to-sideline and played with reckless abandon. Also did a terrific job in coverage on Bush. Bush was never able to shake him for yards after the catch. He set the tone for the Panthers defense today.Did you watch the game? Gamebook shows him at WLB and Diggs at MLB. Yes. Diggs went off.Hey Jene, was Beason on the field in the nickel packages at all?
Beason rushed on a couple of occasions as a delayed blitzer yesterday. The Panthers like to bring at least one linebacker and a corner at times on passing downs. In prior seasons, the Panther MLB has been good for 2-4 sacks per season. Chris Draft had six last year. Morgan had two seasons where he projected to near four sacks. Witherspoon had a couple of sacks a season as well.Beason may not get the opportunity a Mike Peterson or Ray Lewis get, but he should get an above average opportunity at pass rush in this defense if he stays in the middle for the rest of the season. If he's outside and sits in favor of Morgan in the nickel, he's unlikely to get more than one sack the rest of the season. If he stays inside, I think three is a reasonable over-under.MDPapi said:One more question: Is he being used to rush the passer at all? Blitzes? Anything?I know he is a rook and playing the middle, but I play in a big-play heavy league and have to decide whether to keep this guy long term or use him as trade bait. I'm a U homer, so I love that he is doing well.

My guess would be that the Panthers still see their best LB alignment as Davis/Morgan/Beason. With James Anderson essentially benched for a replacement level Na'il Diggs, I think you'll see Beason back on the weak side when Morgan comes back. The command Beason had in the huddle and the winning result could change all that depending on how long Morgan is out. Morgan apparently thinks he can play, but there's absolutely no reason to rush him back this week before the Week 7 bye.So we don't know what the situation will be when/if Morgan returns. Does anyone know if that is even likely to happen?
So is Beason a high quality LB1 type of starter if he stays in the middle?Last weeks performance would say so, but was that atypical? Also, what value does Beason hold in the weakside if Morgan returns? My guess would be that the Panthers still see their best LB alignment as Davis/Morgan/Beason. In my eyes he becomes a high level LB2 if he stays in the middle, with LB1 upside. At the weakside when Morgan comes back he will also probably shift to a two down backer and push his value to a low LB3/high LB4. With Carr being the QB now his value is actually higher since that offense isn't nearly as potent with Homme out, meaning the defense should face more snaps. So is Beason a high quality LB1 type of starter if he stays in the middle?Last weeks performance would say so, but was that atypical? I'm with hunchback here, although I suppose it's possible that Beason will show enough in coverage before Morgan comes back that the Panthers could use Beason in the nickel to give Morgan fewer snaps. In my eyes he becomes a high level LB2 if he stays in the middle, with LB1 upside. I think moving Beason to the middle rather than continuing to use a stop-gap measure may be a sign that it'll be at least through the bye in Week 7 and potentially longer. The Panthers are essentially paying him on a per game played basis so there's no rush to get him back if Diggs plays average and Beason continues to perform. So I'm putting the over-under on Week 8 and betting the over.So to me the question is how long will Morgan be out? He didn't practice today, but hasn't been ruled out for the weekend from what I've seen.
No guarantees but I think as well as he played in coverage last week and considering that the team may want to limit Morgan's snaps in the future, it seems likely that he'll stay in the nickel. That's not the way things went before Morgan's injury, though, so YMMV.Regardless of where Beason lands, is he in the nickel?
