I'm very bid "rookie" TE Jordan Akins of the Texans. The Texans offense is a bit flag football, with Watson moving around to buy time as guys get open and throw their hands up in the air. Akins seems perfect for this. He's mature, intelligent, and athletic. He's a bit wiry and does not come across as much of a blocker, but the Texans are perhaps the least capable power-rushing team in the NFL so this deficiency is not especially problematic. The Texans generate a lot of opportunities for the TE but have not had anyone good enough to take advantage of these since Owen Daniels left. I am a massive seller of Lamar Miller (memo: he's just not good) and Will Fuller (t-rex arms) and there is a *big* opportunity for Akins as early as Week 1.

I looked at him earlier this year prior to my May rookie draft. I passed and will still pass.

Rookie TEs rarely make an impact. In the last 8 years only 5 rookie tight ends have made it into the top 20. Hes 26 years old, so it could take until hes 28-29 for him to make an impact. By then we are excited about the guy drafted behind him.

Texans TE Jordan Akins has made "one big play after another" during training camp, becoming a consistent red zone target for Deshaun Watson. 

Texans beat writer John Harris said Akins has made difficult catches in traffic, and that Watson seems to have confidence in the third year tight end. Akins, who had a 75th percentile burst score, started nine games for Houston in 2019. He only saw five or more targets in five games. Akins could become a decent streaming option if he carves out a role in the Houston passing attack.

The Athletic's Aaron Reiss named TE Jordan Akins a "fantasy sleeper" after a training camp in which he stood out among the team's tight ends. 

Akins, 28, received The Athletic's "most improved veteran" award for the second straight offseason. He caught 36 passes for 418 yards last year. Maybe the second time is the charm for Akins, who led all Houston tight ends last year with 55 targets. There's certainly a path to fantasy relevance for any tight end who can dominate snaps and pass routes for Houston, as Texans tight ends saw 20.5 percent of the team's targets a year ago. Akins should be drafted in deeper leagues with tight end premium scoring.

Jordan Akins caught both of his targets for 39 yards and one touchdown in the Texans' Week 1 loss to the Chiefs.

Akins was the recipient of Deshaun Watson's lone touchdown pass, scoring from 20 yards out on a seam shot. He and Darren Fells were each targeted twice in this one. Akins is a promising talent, but he's unlikely to be anything more than a low-floor dart-throw TE2 at any point this season. The Texans get the Ravens in Week 2.

Jordan Akins caught all seven of his targets for 55 yards in Houston's Week 2 loss to Baltimore.

Akins again came on the field once Houston trailed by double-digit points in the first half, playing over Darren Fells as the team's primary receiving tight end in negative game script. Although he's not an option in perceived blowouts, Houston's matchup against Pittsburgh in Week 3 projects Akins for usage early. He'll be a TE2 punt for fantasy players who lost their starter(s) due to injury in Week 2.

Jordan Akins caught 3-of-3 targets for 46 yards before departing from the Texans' Week 4 loss to the Vikings with a concussion. 

Both the catches and yards were Akins' second most of the season. Akins is flirting with TE2 relevance, but he can't quite get there. He has no realistic path to ceiling in an offense this crowded. If Akins can get cleared, he will face the Jags in Week 5. They have been soft up the seam.

Texans TE Jordan Akins (ankle, concussion) is questionable for Week 5 against the Jaguars.

Akins didn't practice Wednesday but cleared concussion protocol and was able to finish the week with two-straight limited practices. He appears to be on the right side of questionable. Akins has a nice matchup against the injury-decimated Jaguars. Akins splits time with Darren Fells but offers desperation TE2 appeal with his red zone production. He, of course, comes without a floor.

Akins cleared the concussion protocol but his ankle injury will keep him out. It means more snaps for Darren Fells against an injured Jacksonville secondary. Also inactive for Houston are WR Keke Coutee, RB Buddy Howell, ILB Benardrick McKinney, ILB Peter Kalambayi, CB Cornell Armstrong, and OT Charlie Heck.

Jordan Akins (ankle, concussion) remained "limited" on Thursday. 

Akins is on track to get cleared from his concussion, but his ankle is an aggravating factor for Sunday's game against the Titans. When healthy, Akins has been providing roughly 40-50 yards, but he isn't catching enough passes to be truly fantasy viable, especially with Darren Fells still in the mix up the seam.

Texans coach Romeo Crennel said TE Jordan Akins (ankle, concussion) will be a game-time decision for Week 6 against the Titans.

Akins practiced on a limited basis this week. He should clear the concussion protocol, but his ankle injury is the bigger concern. Akins playing would cut into the target share of Darren Fells.

Akins was inactive last week against the Titans, opening up another opportunity for Darren Fells, who played 88 percent of the team's snaps and caught six balls for 85 yards and a touchdown. While fantasy players might want to adjust their expectations for Fells, another game without Akins would make him a viable streaming play against Green Bay. Fells is 10th in tight end pass routes over the past two weeks.

Jordan Akins (ankle) did not practice Thursday.

Akins wasn't listed with a concussion, so the issue is his high-ankle sprain. The Texans did not place him on injured reserve, but he should be viewed as week to week. High-ankle sprains tend to linger. Until he practices in full, Darren Fells is in play as a touchdown-dependent TE2. The Texans are expected to be in a shootout against the Packers in Week 6.

Texans TE Jordan Akins ran 16 pass routes in Week 9 against the Jaguars. 

Darren Fells, meanwhile, ran 13 routes. Akins led Houston tight ends with four targets, catching two balls for 19 yards in his return from an ankle injury and a concussion -- a disappointment for those who played him as a reasonable streamer in a good matchup. Akins will be a fringe fantasy option in Week 10 against Cleveland.

The Athletic's Aaron Reiss expects Texans TE Jordan Akins to get more snaps out of the slot down the stretch. 

The Texans have to get creative in the passing game with Kenny Stills gone, Will Fuller suspended and Randall Cobb injured. They now have just Keke Coutee and fifth-round rookie Isaiah Coulter behind Brandin Cooks in the receiver corps. Akins, who ranks eighth in yards per route run (1.76) amongst tight ends with at least 20 catches, has taken 23 percent of his snaps out of the slot this season compared to 34.6 in 2019. Getting Akins more routes and targets is a no-brainer for an offense that will have to rely much more on "heavy" sets for the final five games of 2020.

I like the idea of proactively picking up Akins, in the hope that he takes on a more significant role in the offense in the absence of Fuller; however, Akins has done little to inspire great confidence that he can be a consistent fantasy performer.  After registering his best game of the season against the Patriots in Week 11 (5 rec., 83 yds), Akins failed to record a single reception against the Lions and was only targeted twice (both in the endzone).  Akins has a fairly favorable schedule down the stretch, and he has the athletic profile to make some noise in the passing game with increased targets, but it will be difficult to trust putting him into your lineup in the fantasy playoffs.

Good tight end streaming process includes honing in on tight ends on teams with big implied totals. That's precisely what draws us to Akins in Week 16, as the Texans have a 27.5 point implied total. 

Akins is hardly a target hog in Houston's pass heavy offense. He has a 13 percent target share through 14 games, the highest among Houston tight ends. He's seen an opportunity bump with the departure of Will Fuller, Kenny Stills, and Randall Cobb from the Texans Offense, drawing six targets in each of the past two games. His route running is good enough for our purposes. Akins ran 25 routes in Week 14 and 29 routes in Week 15. We'll take it. 

The Bengals, meanwhile, allow a 23.19 percent target share to tight ends, the fifth highest in the NFL. Tight ends are averaging 7.24 targets per game against Cincy. A frustrating streaming option for much of 2020, Akins checks a lot of key boxes in Week 16.

Jordan Akins caught 3-of-4 targets for 31 yards and a touchdown in Houston's Week 3 loss to Chicago.​

Elevated from the practice squad before the game, Akins continued to show that Davis Mills and Pep Hamilton are experts at making secondary tight ends a major part of the game plan. To his credit, Akins made a well-defensed catch in the end zone on play-action for Houston's only receiving touchdown of the game. We'll see if Brevin Jordan (ankle) is healthy enough to keep Akins off the roster this week.

Don’t do it folks. I posted on Akins in the game thread as a Texans fan. He has one game a year where he shows up, passes the eye test, and people think he’s turned the corner and will keep it up.

He won’t. Next week OJ Howard or Breton Jordan will outscore him with 2 catches for 30 yards. If you still want to grab him, do so for $0 FAAB.

Browns signed TE Jordan Akins, formerly of the Texans, to a two-year contract.​

The Texans drafted Akins in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played a rotational role for Houston while on his rookie contract and left for New York on a one-year deal last offseason. The Giants cut him late in training camp and he made his way back to Houston. Soon to be 31 years old, Akins will be a depth option and an extra blocker for the Browns.
