Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli indicated today that rookie second-round pick Jordon Dizon would not be part of a rotation at middle linebacker. Dizon was in for 14 plays in the season opener and was scheduled to share playing time with starter Paris Lenon in the Green Bay Packers game, but it never happened.
During that game, Dizon suffered a minor neck/shoulder injury -- a stinger -- and didn't play in the San Francisco game. Dizon is healthier and is expected to play on special teams if he's active for Sunday's game against Chicago.
Marinelli was vague on exactly why Dizon won't get playing time at middle linebacker, saying that the plan is to go with Lenon right now. It could be that Dizon's injury put him a little behind and it's possible Marinelli just wants to go with a veteran in a situation where the Lions are desperate to get their first win of the season.
