Joseph Addai (1 Viewer)

I'll admit, I didn't see the game. So all I am going on is play-by-plays and box scores. So please take this initial post as an invitation to be a devil's advocate.

But why in the heck don't the Colts give the ball to Addai more???? His stats are superior to Rhodes' (both rushing and receiving). On couple of occasions, Rhodes got carries from the 1 (and was stuffed both times). Then, when the Colts got down to the one on Addai's legs, then Peyton runs two consecutive pass plays (when he threw the TD to Harrison).

Someone enlighten me, because I just don't see it. TIA.

ETA: In 4 of the last 5 games, Addai has had more rushing yards than Rhodes. And from today's result, Addai was much more efficient. I know that Rhodes is dinged--but wouldn't that be a good reason to give Addai the start/lion's share of the work here? Again, I just don't get it. . .

Was wondering the same thing. Didn't see the game and wouldn't care at all if not for Addai being on my FF team BUT, the stats I read credited manning with 3 td passes from inside the five (two being one yarders), couldn't they give at least one of those to Addai?

I own both of them in my main redraft. I expect Addai's role to continue to increase as the season progresses, as he continues to become less of a rookie. Today he looked very good.

I watched the game and Addai looked very good, like a potential top 10 back, all of those preseason FFG comparsions to JJ Arrington should be dead.

I watched the game. The only reason they didn't play Addai more is because they were so far ahead that there was no need to risk injury. Rhode's meager yardage came late in the game. He had a few shots early and didn't produce anything. In fact, he was stuffed at the one twice. I don't think he saw the field again until late in the fourth.

Sadly, I own Rhodes and not Addai.

Doesn't Manning call his own plays? :statspadding: But in all seriousness, they got the points and that's all that matters.

I think the Colts know they need a fresh Addai in January, when it really matters. So, they continue to split time 50/50. I do think they need to use him more in their next 2 games, which are crucial.

I think he looked good. He'll be the main back very soon. Especially if Rhodes continues his 2.3 yards and a cloud of dust.

I was at the game. Addai is the better option, but like DJColts said, they need to keep him fresh.

Peyton :statstuffing: gimme a break!

When they put 9 in the box and leave Wayne and Harrison 1-on-1 against DBs, there is NO other choice than to get the easy passing TD.

Addai now > Edge now.

You act like this is something new with Manning

I haven't been watching it specifically, but perhaps its because Rhodes is a better blocker.
Everything I read is that Addai is a phenomenal blocker. But Im not 100% sure

I watched most of the game. What I saw was Rhodes got most of the carries early on and then late in the game. Addai got most of his yards on one drive when they ran 5 or 6 times in a row. Addai was getting at least 8 yards on every carry that drive.

I'm an Addai owner. ;)

I watched the whole game yesterday, Addai looked like he was faster, stronger, more explosive, and had better vision the whole game. He also looked more hungry than Rhodes as he fought for yards after making contact with a tackler. Rhodes looked slow, and a couple of times had a cutback lane but didn't take it, instead just ran into the tacklers and fell down.

I own both and will be starting Addai from here on out.

To be fair, Rhodes was dinged. But that is all the more reason to give Addai more work, in my mind.

Why wear one guy down when you're undefeated?

Come playoff time, we'll see Addai carry the load. But for now, there's no reason for it.

That's also what I have read and heard. Addai is suppose much better in pass protection
Rhodes owner here, and I have followed a few of the games this season. There is no doubt that Addai is running/receiving the ball better than Rhodes. Blocking is the key, and rhodes is much better.Watch the video of Manning getting twisted, and you will realize what I mean.

This is why they didn't run the ball again down there. Marvin vs. a gimpy DB 1-on-1 = long handoff for a TD. Both were no contest.

Well, you challenged us to watch that play. I did - pausing and going over it several times. Addai blocked #93 not only once, but TWICE on that play. After the 3rd time, when Manning should have long gotten rid of the ball, #93 got around Addai when Manning was met by 3 Redskins defenders.Even based on you one example to show that Rhodes is "way better" at blocking than Addai, you are incorrect. Oh, and the other play where Manning get hit below the knees, Rhodes was in the game and he went out for a pattern, not even making one block on the play. Saying Rhodes is "way better" at blocking than Addai is incorrect. He may have a slight edge because of experience in the offense, but that's it.

Whatever floats your boat, but Manning got crushed because of Addai's missed assignment. It's a RBBC in Indy and Rhodes is more adept at picking up the blitz. Addai chip blocked his assignment and Manning was twisted over. Say all you want, but a rookie RB isn't nearly adept at picking up the blitz.Addai will end the season with more FP than Rhodes, but Rhodes will protect Manning better, hence the RBBC.There is a reason it's RBBC, and the reason has more to do with Addai being a rookie, and less than Rhodes being more skilled. And, I never used the phrase "way better." Only those with a weak argument put words into another's mouth. You cannot deny that Addai's blocking assingment crushed Manning.

"Much better" or Way Better you're the one playing with words. By your logic Rhodes is Much Better because Addai did not hold his block as long as Peyton held the ball on one play in one game. Addai is a better pass blocker and is in on more passing situations and has been targeted more often as a reciever than Rhodes.

is he in more passing situations because of his blocking or catching abilities? i dont think they are the same thing. yes they can peel off and get a quick dump off but more times than not they don't get targeted when blocking.

Both running backs need touches in order to develop. It wouldn't benefit the team for Addai to be the feature back, even though it would mean that he came along faster. He is coming along just fine and the team is doing well. It's better that 2 running backs are familiar and comfortable playing in key situations throughout the season, because it keeps them sharp and fresh. Neither one of them needs to have the pressure of being the feature back placed upon them, which is a nice luxury for the Colts. It probably benefits both of them more to share playing time at this stage of their careers. Addai is the more talented running back and he will put up better stats because he will be put in situations where he can be more successful to help build his confidence and the teams confidence in him. Rhodes is a capable veteran who knows the system and the talent gap between him and Addai is not the same as him and Edge. He has earned his playing time and it's important for the team that he plays despite what monday morning quarterbacks and fantasy football vince lombardi's try to say.

Missed assignment? Are you SURE you watched that play, because I sure did and completely described in my post. Manning held the ball for 3 to 4 seconds on that play, and Addai made the 1st AND 2nd block on that play - and neither was a "chip block" - they were blocks, without an OL person helping him - on a D Lineman no less. You're wrong - pure and simple.Oh - if you want to see what a missed assignment really is - go back to the opening game in 2004 - Colts at Pats - when the Colts were driving down the field in their last drive and Dallas Clark completely missed a block on Willie McGinest. All the Pats fans were blaming Manning for not avoiding the sack. I find it funny that Manning got blamed for having a half a second to avoid the rush there - but no blame for holding the ball for 3 to 4 seconds when he got crunched yesterday. I try as a Colts fan to be fair in placing blame on my own team - and Manning not getting rid of the ball was why he got crunched yesterday - not Addai.
