Josh Freeman (1 Viewer)

I'm one of probably many who drafted the Schaub/Garrard QB and is freaked out by Garrard's road matchup against the Jets to want to look in another direction.

Freeman had a nice game against the Pack and is going up against a very ordinary Miami pass defense with three

rookies starting in the secondary. Of course on the other side, this is only Freeman's second start so this could absolutely end badly.

Anyone else rolling with the rook this week?

I may be forced to in one league.

I'm a Schaub owner, and my backups have been less than comforting all year(couple owners went crazy on QBs and I refused to reach). It's between Josh or Stafford for me this week and I'm not exactly warm and fuzzy about Stafford after last week/given both he and Calvin are still dealing with knee stuff.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I believe I read somewhere yesterday that Winfield is returning to the Vikings this week, so I'm actually leaning towards starting Freeman now.

I have Schaub/Garrard and I'm rolling the dice with Freeman this week. I'm not touching Garrard on the road vs. Jets. At least Freeman could pleasantly surprise me, Garrard will get 5-10 pts max.

I have Garrard/Freeman/Cassel.

Going with Freeman, based on matchups.

Looked good last week. Maybe he hasn't yet learned to play like a rookie.

This is a good thread. I also have Schaub/Garrard and the thought of actually using Garrard on the road is making me ill. I had been leaning towards going with Cassel but his matchup at Oakland probably isn't better than Garrard at the Jets. I'm gonna take a closer look at Freeman because I hadn't even considered him. Thanks

Well, that'd make me feel a tiny, tiny bit better about the decision if that's the case with Winfield.I fully expect to lose this week without Schaub, but I figure I may as well take a swing for the fences. Freeman feels more likely to put one in the upper deck than Stafford does this week(not that I expect it from either). As long as Freeman doesn't put forth an Alex Smithian performance, a la Thursday, I'll take it and hope the rest of my team can overcome my opponents' QB.

Another nervous Schaub/Garrad owner. Debating whether to pick up Freeman or Cambell this week. Freeman may have the most upside potential, but what about Campbell?

Broncos D has seemed more vulnerable the past few weeks. Campbell will be playing at home with no running game.

Wouldn't Cambell actually be a safer start than either Garrard or Freeman?

In my long-time dynasty league, the Grid Iron Pro Fantasy Football league, I'm in rebuilding mode and I drafted both Sanchez and Freeman this year as my new QB roster. I like the Miami matchup and I'm starting Freeman in that league over Sanchez. 3 rookies in the secondary = even chance for Freeman to throw for over 200 yards and at least one TD, IMO. I expect 220 and 2 with a pick and probably a sack/fumble. My :hophead:

Also a Schaub/Garrard owner and there's no way I'm starting Garrard.

It's Freeman or Stafford.

I'm actually leaning towards Stafford. He's going to have to throw, Winfield is out, and MN is not so hot against the pass. Add to that familiarity with the oponent, maybe the potential for MN/Favre to be a tad sluggish after that big GB win, and maybe Stafford being a little ticked after throwing ints and maybe you've got a sleeper here.

Most people will not touch Stafford with a ten foot pole this week after throwing 5 picks. Fantasy is funny that way. For that reason, he'll probably go for 250 and 2.

Freeman on the road in his second start with Miami now having film on him scares me a bit. Kinda feel like GB was asleep at the wheel last week and Freeman completely surprised them. Don't think that happens again.

Oh...and one other reason for Stafford...he has Calvin Johnson and Freeman doesn't. You never know when Megatron could just take over and take two to the house.KY

 That would be pretty ballsy. I also have Carson/Freeman, but don't know that I could play a rookie making only his second start, on the road. Has red flags written all over it.What are your thoughts?

In a 2 qb league, and have to choose two of Freeman, Campbell, and Garrard. Leaning towards Freeman and Garrard. Just checked and Dodds actually has Campbell ranked well ahead of Freeman and Garrard. I guess he's counting on Washington having to throw a lot based on injuries to their RB's and falling behind. Hmmmm.

This thread is hilarious and comforting because I thought I was the only one who was in this gawd awful position of Garrard versus the Jets. So yes I'm rolling Freeman and think he has less of chance of putting up negative points than Graveyard.

:fingerscrossed:

i own schaub, alex smith and vince young in a league where i can use a 2nd QB as a flex. i used smith. he got me 1 point. i could use young. or i could use one of my limited subs and pick up freeman or campbell or henne ... or i could just roll with anquan boldin or mike sims-walker.

what a freaking dilemma.

Yes, against all other rational thought I'm going to put Freeman in the lineup this week.

Pros:

1. Looked good last week. The trend is your friend.

2. Facing the Dolphins D - 28th against the pass.

3. TB will probably get behind early and be forced to pass - the total is 43.5 and Miami is a 10 point favourite. Opportunity is there.

Cons:

1. Rookie QB with one game as a starter - "game 2" for QBs as new starters generally do not go well (see below).

2. Miami now has a full gametape on him from last week. Can plan better than GB did for him.

3. On the road, noise, crowd all play against him.

Bottom line is, for me, he's a better option than Garrard (no way I start him against the Jets on the road...absolutely no way) or Jason Campbell (who's banged up, got the Broncos, is just isn't that good.)

But make no mistake, this is a very risky play. It all depends on what your next best option is.

One con on Freeman is that Miami is going to eat up the clock and limit TB's posessions. Brown and Williams all day just eating up all the clock.

Another reason I'm thinking Stafford.

Miami plays much better defense at home than on the road.Even though they line up 3 rookies in the secondary they did a good job on Brady and Co. last week. The post above is also spot on regarding the TOP as Miami might have the ball for 40 mins in this one,the Bucs are atrocious vs the run and the wildcat might have it's best output of the season..

Just some food for thought for you Freeman owners.....

Great post. Lots of good thoughts on this Garrard situation and Freeman's potential to excel or come back to earth this week. I've been debating Campbell, Henne or Freeman as potential replacement starters. Consider this blurb from rotowire.com:

rotowire.com spin: Campbell has been more effective since Sherman Lewis began calling plays for the Redskins, throwing for 480 yards and three touchdowns in the last two weeks. Denver's passing defense is a tough nut to crack, however. Campbell's ankle doesn't look like it will be a problem.

Add to that, Redskins play at home, Portis is out & Betts is less than 100%. I think the skins will need to pass in this game & Campbell seems like the safe choice amongst the above mentioned QBs. Though I'd feel better if Cooley were playing.

No I have Favre and Flacco but am watching for next year.

After favre destroys the Queens later this year :excited: it would be nice to have 2 young guys that can play.

Here's a thought and this guy is probably available:

Delhomme

Call me crazy but I think he has a great chance to rebound. Why? Reasons:

* In the last three games vs Atl, Delhomme has thrown for no less than 294 yards.

* Steve Smith coincidently has also performed well vs Atl in these last three games.

* He's only thrown 1 pick in these three games vs Atl.

* He hasn't thrown a pick in the last two games.

* He's at home.

* D. Williams is nicked up...Car may not be able to just run, run, run.

* Atl D is not so impressive.

* Car D has picked it up...could mean more offensive snaps for Carolina.

* Weather forecast perfect.

And lastly, gut feel. Delhomme has hit rock bottom, but quietly, Car has been playing much better if you've watched their last two games.

This is my biggest worry as well, but as a Schaub/Orton owner, I decided to pick up Freeman and play him this week instead of Orton vs WAS.

I too have Carson and Freeman, but also have Ryan. All the projections I have seen say start Carson over Freeman (even over Ryan). I would not start Freeman this week over Carson even with a bad matchup for Carson.

**sigh of relief**

"Thanks for not laying a complete egg, Josh.

Cordially,

5-ish"

All things considered, I expected worse. I'll take the near 200 yards passing and a touch with 30ish rushing yards. If Mike Clayton could hold onto the ball better(I think it was Clayton. Couldn't tell at the bar), he might have had a few more shots at TD #2.
