"TAKE THAT: Josh Hamilton saw Tampa Bay general manager Andrew Friedman on ESPN2 on the clubhouse television talking about Thursday's draft."You suck!" Hamilton yelled at the set. "I'd be playing in Single-A now ..."Friedman, of course, left Hamilton unprotected for the Rule 5 draft. That's how he ended up with the Reds. Friedman said the Rays planned to send Hamilton to Single-A."
Yea, you do coke and crank and live on the streets for six years and completely F over the franchise, but it's the GM's fault that you'd still be in single-A if the team didn't leave you unprotected this off-season. :coffee:

Good for Hamilton to get off the drugs, but he needs to act a little more professionally here. Let's see, the Rays gave you a ton of $$$$ you started using drugs, and derailing a once promising career, and then you pull a bush league move and yell at your former general manager? If I were Friedman, I would ask him for his signing bonus back.

Um, he didn't yell this at the guy - he yelled it at the TV.

:lmao: You really have issues with this guy. Hey, sorry if Hamilton didn't work out for you guys. Time to move on.

Issues? Because I told you guys he would regress this year after his hot start and you sat there and argued about it? You and fasteddie want to re-visit that topic?I think the guy is a bit of jerkoff. He stole money from the team for 7 years and is now running his mouth off as if it's the organization's fault. Sue me. I hope he does a bunch of blow with Chris Henry and gets booted again.

Capella, this is the same organization Delmon Young called "cowards" for not calling him up a couple years ago and the same organization that continues to cut Elijah Dukes a check each week. To go along with a couple weeks of John Rocker and a year of Jose Canseco, I'd say that Josh Hamilton has to be no higher than 5th on the "Devil Ray All-Time ###-hole list."

:goodposting: I have no idea what was originally discussed, but if this is his regression, sign me up for more of the same. The guy made 2 unbelievable plays again in centerfield today that saved the game. He got hurt for a while, now he is back playing well again, what am I missing? Was the original argument that he would keep up his initial McGwire-like HR/AB ratio?

I think fasteddie said Hamilton's upside was winning the Triple Crown, which hasn't happened since 1967.

this is correct.

Its probably a stretch to say he (or anyone else) will win the triple crown. I guess my point is, if he thought that before, why wouldn't he now? It just seemed to me like you were implying that Hamilton was stuggling so he should reconsider. I guess you are saying that his statement was always rediculous in spite of his performance.

For what its worth, I think Hamilton's upside is about .300/35/110 with gold glove defense. The kid can be stud, triple crown or not.

Dude's arm is sick. Throwouts at home yesterday and at first the other day were things of beauty.

Get over it, Cappy.

What do I have to get over? The Rays are better now, and have a better future than the Reds.Eat it.
 I know you don't even believe this so I won't bother. As for the first part, good job having a better record for a couple months.

As a whole, the Rays prospects at AA, AAA and now in the majors are light-years better than the Reds. That's not just me saying that. Go do some reading.

Guy is so whacked out on drugs that he can't distinguish a TV from a human. Sell high now!

Without arguing the merits of Bailey, Votto, Bruce, etc.... the more important question is, what do the Devil Ray plan to do if those guys are any good? Let them go sign with the Reds as soon as they are free agents? Say what you want, but payroll is still the number 1 indicator of future success.

Sign with the Reds? :lmao: When's the last time a major free-agent signed with the Reds? When did you guys become suddenly important?Newsflash: You guys are basically the Pirates with slightly cooler uniforms.eta: I imagine they will try to lock these guys up. Crawford and Rocco got new deals when the new ownership took over.

When it comes to signing better baseball players, it has nothing to do with being important. It is who has the most money. Although, I guess banking on the Reds management to blow it on more horrible signings isn't that unrealistic.

You guys are 19th in salary this year. Obviously spending more than the Rays, but no real threat. The new owners have "promised" to spend money on keeping all the kids. Whether they will or not, we'll have to wait a few years. But Stuart Sternberg has plenty of money to spend, if he so chooses to do so.

Yep and David Price and Will Kline are good starts to help out the rotation in the near future.
I'm pretty excited about Kline. Sharp control, great change.

Yeah, I went to church and high school with him so I'm looking forward to see what he can do. It seems his fastball is 88-91, but can reach 93 and did so in the 9th inning of a complete game in the SEC tourney. Bulldog mentality, like you said great change and his other breaking pitches have some nasty bite to them. He did have Tommy John Surgery his senior year in HS, so hopefully that is behind him. Also, he seems to be much better starting than he is in relief.

sound like a hater to me. I mean he's just foolin' around in the clubhouse. How is this un-professional?
Oh I don't know, he was paid a huge sum of $$$, proceded to snort/shoot/smoke his way out of the Devil Rays organization. Like I said, good for him to get off the drugs, but why make those statemtns on a team you completely screwed with your actions?

Point of view, Everoyone's got their own point of view. I guess you just dont understand what that means.

I think Hamilton got on drugs just so he could get out of the Devil Rays organinzation because they suck so bad.

Now he is out of that organization and he is clean. Tough row to hoe just to get your way but it seems to have worked pretty well for him.

Carry on.

  I love Reds fans who act like their team matters.

It's not the 70s, guys. Your team is nothing more than a 3rd-tier franchise.

Nobody's team matters to anyone but their own fans. If their favorite team isn't in the world series, 99% of people don't care what 2 teams are. Who would you say is your list of teams that "matter"?Yankees and Red Sox?

Now that I know my team is not on Capella's pre-approved list of teams worthy of discussion, I guess I'll find a better way to spend my work time. At least we can all assume that the Devil Rays threads will cease now since Capella says they don't matter.

Never said we couldn't discuss the Reds or the Rays?
