Joshua Cribbs (1 Viewer)

Cribbs never would have been hurt if the refs didn't allow the Browns to use 4 second half timeouts. :pics:

Then again, running a hook and ladder on the final play of a 16 point game doesn't make much sense either.

It is unreal that they got four timeouts. That head official should be suspended immediately. Beyond inexcusable.

You could say the Browns lost the biggest playmaker when they lost K2 Braylon Edwards D'Qwell Jackson Joshua Cribbs.

My thoughts exactly. What a dumb ###! I suppose if you have QB who cant keep the ball in bounds when throwing over 20 yards you dont want to run the risk of hitting a cheerleader in the head by throwing a hailmary pass at the end of the game!

Turned the game off after Quinn's second pick but there was some speculation on NY radio this morning that it may have been a little payback for Quinn going after Suggs' knee.

Any thoughts on that? The minute I saw that play I turned it off but I was wondering if there was gonna be a little payback late in the game. When I heard Cribbs was carted off the field, that was the first thing that came to mind. Thoughts from those of you who saw it? Clean hit?

I turned it off after they pulled Ray Raice late in the 4th quarter (needed 2 more yards for high scorer ;) ) so I didn't see the hit on Cribbs. I did see Quinn's penalty and I think it was more of a case of a QB not used to tackling than a intent to injure. Let's face it, Quinn can't hit anything that he is aiming for.

I didn't see the interception replay or Quinn on replay but why was he going after a guy without the ball as they were trying to run it back? Usually its the QB getting tagged on those types of plays.

Does anybody know who would handle the special teams duties in the event that Cribbs would miss some time?...Lawson? Harrison?

Couple of years ago the refs made an "administrative error" and basically gave Baltimore 4 TOs, the last of which gave them time to tie it with seconds left. That head official was actually fined half his game check for the mistake $2500. FIrst time and only time I can remember a ref being fined (or at least publicly). The error was thus: Baltimore ran a play that left the clock ticking, they called timeout but there was a flag. Refs waived off the flag and gave Baltimore they timeout back but failed to start the clock again. The punishment was given by Tags back when Holgren was head of the Competition Committee.

What in the world could Mangini have been thinking? It was a stupid play to the the game and would not have made any difference.

This is the worst team in the NFL.

In the NFL you play the whole game, it is too bad Cribbs was hurt but in the NFL it can happen on any given play..be it the first play or last.

I truly don't understand how someone as obtuse as Mangini becomes an NFL head coach.

He keeps pounding nails in his own coffin.

I'm a Steeler fan, and it even bothers me what a trainwreck this once proud Browns franchise has become and how quickly it has happened.

This team may not score a point the rest of the year. Parity and quality in the NFL.
Please explain.
Why would I have to? Did you see that #### last night.Have you seen the #### in Oakland? Detroit, St. Louis?
I think parity is alive and well in the NFL and I'm a big fan of it.Parity doesn't mean that every single team is competitive... there will always be outliers on either side of the curve.

It does seem as if there are a few more truly bad teams this year than the NFL has had in the past sevearl years.

They were losing 16-0 and it was the final play of the game. Nothing they did on that play could have changed the outcome. Flipping the ball all around the way they were leads to guys being in odd positions with opponents coming at you from directions from which you can't protect yourself. It was dumb.

And the reason is cheap owners. Also remember they are prepping for a lockout. Look no further than Tampa Bay signing 2 hacks for 25 million or so as long as they each block 5 punts. Yeah that's gonna happen. If either got to 4 punts blocked, I guarantee you they would be in the unemployment line within a minute of #4.That $ counted agains the salary cap and did not have to be spent. THAT is a problem. That adds to the diminished quality of product on the field.

Just saw it, and stupid play-call, for sure, but Cribbs did just let up on the play after he lateraled the ball; he just stopped and watched the play. You can't do that in an NFL game. Still, moronic play-call, which is to be expected from the Cleveland Browns.

Wow, didn't realize it was such a cheap shot. Hopefully whoever that was gets a huge fine. Cribbs had lateraled that ball WAY before he got hit.
It did not look that bad at all..I have seen way harder hits. Actually it seemed like Lewis gave him a pop..then let up.
Cribbs wasn't the final ball carrier and it wasn't Lewis that hit him.

Oh, so you can't block non-ball carries now? If Hines Ward had done that (and he does stuff like all of the time...often much worse), you Steelers fans would be defending him, saying you have to keep your head on a swivel in an NFL game, but since a Raven did it, and you all hate the Ravens, it is a cheap shot. Give me a break.

If you look at the guy who has the ball when he's tackled to end the game, he's obviously looking to lateral it overhand back to Cribbs, except that Cribbs is no longer there as a receiving target because he's been taken out. I thought it was a heads-up for the Ravens defender.

All is fair in love and war...and make no mistake, some owners are at war right now with the player's union. I'd guess half the owners won't spend much at all this offseason without a new collective bargaining agreement in place. The players are finally starting to realize the 2010 "uncapped" year won't be this free spending, big dollar windfall many were envisioning. Of course that's a great thing for us fans because it means the likelihood of a new deal being in place is that much higher.Josh Cribbs is one of the players stuck in this exact situation right now. If a collective bargaining agreement was in place right now he'd have a new contract with the Browns. Then again, maybe he'll eventually be pleased that he didn't get that long-term deal with Cleveland.

Just watched again..just seemed like an average collision that happens on every play of an NFL game. Cribbs did seem to relax a bit before he was hit..have to keep your head up while the play is still alive.

I agree... it looks like his momentum was already going into Cribbs and he kind of threw his shoulder to make contact... he didn't leave the ground or put his head down or anything overtly malicious... yea, he kind of made a hit, but he was about to run into a player of the other team... that's what you do. This is nowhere near like that hit on Johnson after the ball sailed way over his head and he was coming down defenseless... no fine should be issued IMO.

I don't think it was bad either. It appeared to me that the guy who hit Cribbs did so as a reaction to a guy running at him rather than hitting him maliciously.

Oh, so defensive players cannot touch offensive players, even ones who had just touched the ball? Interesting. I may have misspoke calling it a block, but there was certainly nothing wrong with the hit the guy laid on Cribbs. He didn't even hit him that hard. It was just a stupid play to run, and Cribbs almost stopped paying attention once he lateraled the ball.

I agree, he gave him a little shot up high but it certainly wasn't brutal or particularly late. Looks like Cribbs caught a forearm to the throat. And this is coming from a Ray Lewis detractor.

What in the world could Mangini have been thinking?
This week's TMQ blasts him pretty hard for apparently thinking "A shutout will look lousy on my resume. Let's risk the health of my team to keep me from being even more embarrased."

I think you want Quinn safe and sound if you're playing against him.

I was just reading yesterday about how he had gone to a high school game to walk with a former coaches son after the coach had died this year. One of the good guys in this league, it's a shame to see this happen.

I really don't fault the Ravens for hitting him. It wasn't a cheap shot, he had just been in possession of the football, and was still close enough to the play to take him out. That hit was imo just how the game of football should be played.

I *do* have a problem with Mangini calling that nonsense. What a terrible, terrible coach. He needs to join Jauron in the unemployment line. That was a stupid call to top off a game full of stupid calls, and now he's responsible for getting his sole playmaker injured.

Cribbs' agent is pissed at the team and he has every right to be furious. They won't give him a raise as he asked. Cribbs didn't want to hold out as he felt he needed to be there with his team. The Browns, believing he wasn't worth more money, also thought he was their best offensive weapon so they started playing him at rb an as a qb in Wildcat formations.

He's a good guy, great team player, gives 100%, one of the best return men in the league and one helluva gunner. I hope he gets out of that Hell known as Cleveland and gets the raise he deserves.
