Julain Edelman (1 Viewer)

Julian Edelman is a WR converted from QB that has incredible quicks. He looked impressive and his stat line showed it (but it was preseason). Do you see him as a wildcat threat? Where do you forecast his draft position? Where would you take him?

Edelman's value relies totally on the health of Welker. The WR3 or slot WR in the NE offense is going to produce solid numbers no matter who it is so long as Moss and Brady are playing at their current levels. Edelman is not going to beat out Welker for that role and I doubt highly that NE uses the wildcat nearly enough to provide any value that way. I mean seriously, why would they? They already have arguably the best offense in the NFL and in 2007 showed it may be the best of all time. There is little need for NE to change what they are doing other than just to provide another wrinkle here or there.

He's going to get a lot of looks this preseason in case Welker gets hurt. Belichick knows what Welker can do, but needs a backup in case Welker gets popped like he did last year. Let someone else burn a pick on him. Only reason to roster him is if it's a deep league or you get charged for moves and you want to use him as a backup for Welker.

When he was on the field, it's almost like Wes Welker was out there outside of 1 drop I believe. The coaching staff loves him and I can see why. However, he's best left for deep dynasty leagues

If you want to be very optimistic about him:

Welker Jr. If he plays like that against a first team defense he could pretty much get all the looks Welker doesn't get. The last look if you will. WR4 on field.

If you want to be realistic:

He won't look that good against a first team defense. Or the fact that Belichick has wanted Lewis since he was drafted by the Eagles. I read somewhere that Belichick had wanted to trade with the Eagles for him every single offseason. Buried on the depth chart or Practice Squaded until somebody gets hurt.

Pats homers,

Tell us more about Edelman. Dynasty players should surely pay attention, but is he rosterable in PPR? Deeper standard leagues?

I don't think he's rosterable in most cases. He's a nice fit for the team but he's not going to supplant Welker or Moss any time soon. The only way I can see stashing him is in a deep standard league, and only as the backup to Welker - but I don't even know for sure how much he'd play if Welker missed substantial time. There's very limited keepability here, for keeper/dynasty type leagues - think about the series of events that would have to happen for you to be glad you had used a roster spot on him in all but the deepest of dynasty leagues. Do you see them happening in the next year or two? Do you see yourself falling in love with another scrub receiver between now and then?

Don't know if Edelman is "all that" or not, but in a 12 team redraft, I am contemplating picking him up for possible emergency use week 1 since Welker appears to be iffy. If Welker winds up being a late scratch, at least then I'd have a warm body to put into my lineup on Monday night. I might also consider picking up Oak WR Louis Murphy. Unfortunately, we use blind bidding (using a bank of fantasy money) to get free agents, so it would cost me; I know of at least one other owner who is considering a bid for Murphy too, so I'd have to outbid him. Man, I forgot what a joy it is to own Patriots players who have anything worse than a hang nail

Do you guys think Edelman is worth starting as a WR3 in Week 1 should Welker miss the game? I am warming to this idea.

I really don't see Welker missing Week 1 and his situation is getting way blown out of proportion. Welker was in uniform and seen fielding punts last week prior to the Giants game. Lewis getting cut to me is another sign that there is nothing majorly wrong with Welker.

Is Edelman returning kicks"? I'm in a deeper league with KR and was eyeing him there...
I believe Edelman will start the year as a punt returner with Maroney on kickoff returns.

This is good info. I was getting nervous about having him plugged in for week 1 and was thinking of putting another WR in. Love the guy in a PPR

I have a feeling we're going see Edelman utilized tonight in addition to specual team work

nevermind looks like he is still injured & isn't dressed

Big fan of Edelman's game & if he's 100% I think he'll surprise some people today. When everyone is healthy I think he'll be utilized with Welker in games that will drive teams crazy with the underneath stuff & benefit Moss.

Looking awfully Welker like today.
Edelman might be the quickest player in the NFL. His 3.92 short shuttle (at his Pro day) is alien-like. What hooked me, though, was his first preseason game. I nearly fell off my chair at his resemblance to Welker (playing style). I was also amazed at how a kid could make that good of a transition to WR so fast.I knew of Edelman in college & was planning to keep my eye on him, but the preseason game sold me. I started adding him in my dynasty leagues after that & added him in the rest of my dynasty leagues this morning when I heard Welker was inactive. He looks good today, but he's not even 100% healthy. Not sure what New England is going to do in the future at WR, but I believe Edelman will eventually be a star (if not with the Pats, someone else).

at the half he's 4-60
and Brady missed him at the GL with a pass that would've been a TD...i didn't start Edelman in any of my leagues because i wasn't sure how healthy he was (& he's still not 100%), but i may regret that decision, lol

I thought he looked pretty serviceable against the Jets. I didnt see this past weeks game, can anyone shed some light on his performance? With Welker potentially missing time, what do people here think moving forward?
