Julius Jones running lanes (1 Viewer)

As a J Jones owner (now for his entire career), I was pretty disgusted by what I saw last night. I turned this game on just in time to see his -2 and -4 yard carries. He obviously didn't do that much prior either against the SAINTS. This reminds me too much of last year when it was tough to watch him (I missed the Carolina game). It is amazing to me how he gets close to 4 yards per carry when he seems to be meeting defenders behind the line of scrimmage all the time.

I have blamed the line in the past, but am wondering if it really is him. Does he have the talent to reverse field, but Parcells like his backs to stick with the play? Are the running lanes really there, and he just can't find them? Can this line just not have run blocking ability at all? I know F Adams left early, but if they are that flimsy to be not able to replace him, I think that is trouble.

I would rather that responses don't degenerate into Jones/Barber workload guesses, because I am talking about 1st and 2nd down when Jones is in. It was obvious that Barber had some seams on 3rd downs last night. He likely will get that on 3rd down. I am assuming Jones remains the 1st and 2nd down guy.

Am I overreacting because it is preseason? Does Parcells play games with play calling in the preseason? Or should I start looking to cut bait?

I firmly believe their RB of the future is not currently on the roster. I look for them to take a RB in rounds 1 or 2 in '07 or '08.

I am a dynasty owner as well and am a little concerned about the line play; but I have faith that Parcells will not blame a bad performance on JJ because of poor line play. If a coach sees a RB stuggling to make it to the LOS because of lineman not performing their blocks the problem is with the line not the RB.

As a big cowboy fan, I share your concern.

Last night, all the RBs were getting caught from the backside. For whatever reason, the backside blocking is just horrible. Not sure if its the play design, to not block the outside guy away from the action, but those backside guys made several tackles near the LOS on Dallas backs last night.

Now, for guys run blitzing up the middle and beating their man at the LOS, thats another story. Its one thing to get beat physically, and another to get beat schematically.

i have always been of the mindset that the playcalling leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to jones. i see quite a bit of calls right up the gut. he cannot push a pile, but give him at least a little bit of breathing room, somewhat of a crease, he can be dangerous. barber on the other hand get the draws and outside runs when teams are playing pass for the most part. maybe i'm wrong, i don't know. just seems that way
