Julius Jones & Strategy (1 Viewer)

When would you draft J. Jones in a 12-team league?

I currently fall 3rd in draft order in my first league. It is a keeper as well. I'm thinking both LJ and LT will be gone. Prob no doubt about that. I really think taking Shaun this year would be a mistake. I'm actually thinking of going Manning then a back, back, wr, wr. What do you think about that strategy?

You need to punch up that post with league data and such, but this really belongs in the ACF.

According to the blurb below (gleaned from the hotwire), it looks like Barber may be the guy to target.

Cowboys | Barber appears to becoming a Parcells favorite

Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports Dallas Cowboys RB Marion Barber III appears to becoming a favorite of head coach Bill Parcells with his ability to block, catch out of the backfield and pick up yards inside. Barber could push RB Julius Jones for playing time.

If it is a snake draft, you would draft #3, #22, and #27. I would think that JJ would still be available at #27.Unless the point system favors QBs, Manning at three is too early. Even if you don't like SAlex, there is Portis and Tiki (in a PPR league). If you go QB, your #1 RB will likely be RB#15-19 overall which I think puts you in a precarious situation.

If you don't want to go SAlex and have no interest in Portis or Tiki, I recommend trying to trade the pick for someone high on SAlex. Maybe couple the #3 and #22 for a mid first, mid second and a fifth or sixth rounder (i.e. #9, #16 and a 5th or 6th rounder). While I still wouldn't pick Manning at #9, you could at least get a higher level RB for your RB1 and pick up a second RB at #27 (3rd round).

I would avoid taking Manning #3 overall unless there are some quirky rules to your league (like starting 2 QB over 1 QB).

As far as JJones, his average draft position is currently 21, so you may not even have the option of taking him.

I think the taking Manning #3 overall phenomenon was last year?

Unless your league is really strange, go with your highest rated RB at pick3.

Otherwise Manning HAS to put up another 40+ TD season to have been worth it.

If you want Jones, the ADP reported by AntSports suggests he'll be gone by your second pick (gone by 20 or 21). I just think that's a bit too high for JJ at this point given Barber. But apparently a majority of drafters do not agree with me.

I would stay away from Jones given how frail he is plus MBIII taking the goal line and possibly more.

Parcells apparently likes Marion Barber a lot. That and injury are the threats to Jones.

At running back, the Cowboys are still waiting for Julius Jones to play a full season without injuries. If he can do that, look out for some big numbers. The third-year back already has four career games of at least 149 yards or more, including a 198-yard game against Seattle in 2004 and a 194-yard effort last December in Carolina.

But Jones will be pushed by second-year back Marion Barber, who seems to be turning into a Parcells favorite with his ability to block, catch out of the backfield and pick up tough yards inside.

I think Barber will turn it into a RBBC. I wouldn't touch Jones this year because he's such a question mark, as is that entire offense.

Stay far, far away.

I think his value is maximized by around 5-6, but he'll be long gone by then.

It's a big NO this year.

Coming out of college, he had a history of injuries, and letting minor ones linger. In the NFL, he has shown nothing to contrast that sentiment. He is fragile, I would not take him as my second back, unless I planned on grabbing three RBs in a row rounds 1-3.

If I do, by chance, end up drafting Jones, should I also draft MB3, just incase anything happens to Jones? Or you think he's a lock for the season? How injury prone is the guy? Does anyone have any stats available for him? Injury wise

I see Jujo being the single biggest beneficiary of the two TE set. I would love to see more of the draw play incorporated in the offense. I also see him catching more balls this year as Palmer loves throwing to backs in his offense. Of course health is his biggest question. If healthy, a top ten season is not out of the question. That is however a big if. I personally have him targeted in the Rnd 2-3 turn if I get a top 3 pick.
