Julius Jones (1 Viewer)

I was wondering if his contract is up at the end of this season? The way Barber has looked, I'd have to imagine JJ is expendable and they wind up giving the barbarian the RB job on his own. What are JJ's prospects as it pertains to carrying the load on another team. In my estiamtion, he's a better option than some of the other starting RB's in this league. Maybe the smart move in a dynasty league, if you have Barber, is to grab JJ and hope he winds up on a good team next season.

Thoughts from other Barber and JJ owners?

As a Jones owner, he is on a really short leash. He runs like a sissy compared to Barber. Add to it his concussions, he's not worth much. Yes, his contract is up and it is doubtful he is re-signed. The problem is that he can't run behind this OL and it is very good. He actually makes it appear to be worse than it is.

This is my take on Jones:

Talented RB who really needs a big year to cash in big as a free agent. I don't believe he'll be back in Dallas next season. I also don't think he'll get the big year he wants because of Barber's presence. He's shown in the past he can be extremely productive as the clear featured RB so if he comes at a reduced cost he could be a very nice pickup for another team next offseason. I would love to see the Packers sign him although I know the chances of that happening are likely remove. In keeper and dynasty leagues I'd hang onto him because I do think he has starting talent in the NFL and if he gets a clear shot somewhere next season - especially on a team that will utilize him more in the passing game - he could be at least a very viable RB2.

Im trying to get him in my dynasty league. He is a free agent with so many teams needing RBs next year. He could easily wind up with Houston, Cleveland, Cincy ( I think Rudi is all but done there) and there is always the chance he goes to GB.

His value for this year is just ok, unless Barber gets hurt but next year he could be a good RB2. If you can get him for a good price take your shot.

One more concussion this is a wasted post. He's done!

If he stays healthy this year he will end up some where. He is better then a lot of RB-1's out there. Green Bay and Cleveland for a start. My two favorite teams!

The 2 back system in the NFL is going to increase in my opinion as there seem to be more and more injuries each year (kind of a good thing for the old NFL guys fighting for benefits I suppose but that's a different topic), so I think with JJ being a FA after this season he has a lot of value. He's experienced in the format for one, and two he can go somewhere where he will feel he'll get to show what he can do.

Also, there is going to be a ton of money for FAs next year so if/when someone signs him they will want to use him as his pay will dictate he show he's worth the money.

I traded for him with the above in mind. It's a similar situatin to all the owners trying to get Michael Turner, however we have seen more of what Julius Jones can do. He's cheaper to get, and much more proven imo.

Someone else hit on it, if he struggles behind this O-line (a solid unit) with one of the best passing game in the game (to avoid stacking the line on him), it's hard to imagine him having great success elsewhere. And he does run like a sissy compared to Barber.

I'd place him in the RB 30-35 range personally (dynasty wise) with very limited upside. Never shown to be a great goal line guy or receiver doesn't help matters.

The Cowboys don't throw to either of their RBs. It isn't a big part of their game plan. Take a look at what Jones has done with his receptions this season, though. If the Cowboys were struggling at all offensively - obviously they aren't - I think we'd be hearing more people screaming for them to take more advantage of getting the ball to Jones on screens and dump offs in the flat. He has been very impressive as a receiver this season, averaging 15 yards a catch. That's why I said if he went to a team that threw him the ball more he could be even more effective. But the Cowboys don't need to throw the ball to him or Barber except for once or twice a game. They're so loaded in the passing game they can essentially ignore their RBs and still put up huge numbers.

I was a lot higher on him until I watched him play this year. Barber looks so much better out there I cant believe hes getting the carries he does.

He was a good #2 RB and i think he will win a job next season. He is a good receiver. and when he was the main guy he was hyped like you wouldnt believe. Jones does the hard work. Barber gets the easy yards. 3rd and 10 and longer and gets all the passes. IMO Barber is better BUT if the roles were reversed Barber wouldnt look that much better.

He has the talent, but will he get the opportunity. Pretty much what everybody else said. He's still young, and will be a free agent after this season. He'll get his shot somewhere.

one thing to watch is the concussions. Big Tex knows his stuff and the Julius concussion thread was an eye opener for me. I am avoiding Jones in dynasty leagues now.
