Julius Thomas owners: what are you doing this week? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, Orange Julius has been great for those who drafted him late or picked him up early this season. However, he's definitely not 100% this week and unfortunately plays on Sunday Night Football this week.

Normally, as long as he's active, you play him. Even if he doesn't have a big game, he's always a threat in the red zone, and in theory the Patriots should be able to score with the Broncos.

Thomas practiced on a limited basis on Thursday and Friday, reportedly doing a little more on Friday than Thursday. By all accounts, he is a true game-time call. I'm leaning towards the opinion he plays - but if he does, will he be limited and in a rotation with Joel Dreessen?

So, I'd like to hear what fellow Thomas owners are doing this week...

- Holding only Thomas, confident he will play?

- Picking up Dreessen, and playing Thomas if he's active and Dreessen if he's not?

- Picking up Dreessen and playing him if Thomas is active or not?

- There aren't many options on Monday... picking up Fred Davis?

- Picking up another TE who has a chance at decent points, such as Carlson, Housler, etc. Graham is probably gone. Heath Miller? Gresham or Eifert?

Thomas owners, check in!

Rotoworld just posted this... might be time to grab Dreessen:

Appearing on GameDay Morning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported it's "not looking good" for Julius Thomas (knee) to play Sunday night against the Patriots.

Thomas will work out this morning, and the Broncos are expected to make a decision on him then. The Denver Post calls him 50-50 to play, leaving Orange Julius as a full-blown game-time decision. Fantasy owners need to have a backup plan in place. You can start by picking up Joel Dreessen, who would draw the start for the Broncos if Thomas can't play. Keep it locked here for updates.

I'll be doing option 2. I was gonna put Carlson in, but decided I liked either Denver guy better.

I don't have the option of Dreesen. It's Jared Cook in the early game or possible Fred Davis or Logan Paulsen with Jordan Reed out.

This is what it is coming down to for me... Dreessen/Thomas vs Carlson. Tough call.

The Denver offense is obviously much better but with more options. The Minnesota offense is bad... but Carlson has clicked with Ponder the past two weeks.

Ponder could have one of those 9-for-23 for 68 yard games at any time though.

Logan Paulsen might be a nice fill in. They play after JT so you have the flexibility if he does play. And everyone else on the Skins is out or nicked.

I'm waffling between waiting for JT/Dreesen, or just starting Ladarius Green. Green's matchup sucks at KC, but honestly, so does Denver's matchup in very cold, and probably windy road conditions.

The scariest scenario for waiting on Denver, is if JT is active. He will likely be limited, and splitting snaps. Could be a huge lineup hole. That said, so could Green. Or Carlson. Or Fred Davis.

For what it's worth, Cecil Lammey, who follows the Broncos closely, said while he likes Dreessen as a player, he'd go with Carlson over him if Thomas wasn't active.

I'm debating between picking up Dreesen or Delanie Walker.
I'd grab Walker... 18 targets last two weeks... 14 rec, 153 yards, 2 TDs. Ryan Fitzpatrick turned Scott Chandler into a temporary starter in Buffalo. Seems like a pretty safe option.

I have him and Jordan Reed in the same league, so this is some bad timing. I picked up Rivera from Oakland and am starting him. Can't take the risk of Julius being a last minute scratch.

My league has a conditional start stipulation.

I'm starting Thomas. If he's ruled OUT before gametime, my injury backup (Charles Clay) goes into my lineup.

Odd rule, goes back decades. I must say, I'm not a champion of rules that are driven by butt-hurt fairness whining, but this rule actually makes sense to me. It allows owners with questionable starters to time shift ONE replacement per week if named player is OUT.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

While thats an interesting rule, part of fantasy is dealing with the time the game starts and making decisions on those.

I had Thomas in the Flex and Graham at TE. Since I don't have any Sunday/Monday night players on my bench I am going to put Shorts in the flex and hope he gets some points.

Heath Miller or OJ? Odds are about even on putting up a goose egg. May as well start Thomas and keep my fingers crossed... :(

deep league...going with Dreeeesssen over some weak alternatives...also gives me the chance to wait until later; if JT goes I'll probaby play him unless they say he'll be very limited or on some low snap count

for me it's Julius Thomas or Chris Johnson. CKmaybeK has a 4:05 start, so JT has until 4:00 to be active. If I don't hear good news by then, he stays on the bench.

eta: other options are Ridley and Shorts - both with unfavorable match-ups, so they are out. Ridley, at least, has the late game as well - I may decide to go with the Ridley/Julius game-time decision and bench CJ.

I have Thomas in the flex... Have Dobson as an emergency, but I'm leaning towards Lev Bell & not gambling on JT.

It's always these types of games where the injured player ends up playing, then puts up a gazillion points.

I'm sure whatever decision the majority of us make will prob be wrong.

I have Thomas in 2 leagues and Reed in 2 leagues. Reed is now out, and Thomas is likely to be out, but it's still not known for sure. I have gone with Graham in 2 leagues, Carlson in 1 league, and Fleener in 1 league to replace them. They're not Thomas or Reed, but they should be solid this week. Who is available depends on your league, of course, but those three may be available and if you're risk averse, then it makes sense to grab one of them now and put them in your lineup. If Thomas would score 12 points if he started and he has a 30% chance of playing, then you'll get either 12 points (maybe more, maybe less) or 0 -- with 0 more likely. I'd rather go with a more certain 6-8 points. I guess if you had to have upside, however, then Thomas might be an OK play -- but only in that circumstance.

fear not Thomas owners. I have Yhomas and Cameron, and I just benched Thomas in favor of Cameron. Which means Thomas will start and go for 7 rec for 100 yds and 2 TD's. :sarcasm:

Fortunately, he is in my flex spot. I have two decent RBs I can plug in there later today b/c of late games (Andre Brown and Rashad Jennings). Hopefully we get something more defined before 4:00 or so today so I can make an educated move.
