On Junior Seau, who was placed on injured reserve

Seau to IR

“He’s done a real good job for us. Junior was real good. Our system, even though he worked a little bit in it at Miami last year, is a little bit different than anything else he’s played in. That was an adjustment for him. He worked very hard to change his style of play a little bit to fit what we do. He has a lot of leadership. It was kind of ironic. Last night before the game, he gave a very emotional speech to the team before we went out onto the field. That’s the kind of guy he is, very unselfish, team oriented, really works hard at the game -- gets here early, stays late, wants to take every rep in practice. He’s a guy who is fun to coach and really loves football. I have a lot of respect for him. It’s unfortunate his season came to an end last night.”

Great guy, great player. I can't imagine him not going into the HoF.

I saw the break when it happened and I felt bad for him immediately.Ironically, it turns out the Chargers could probably have used him too this year.

Class act, great player, I'll always appreciate him.

I cringed when I saw his arm break like that. For him to walk off the field like that was simply amazing to me. He is one tough man.

So does he go into the HOF as a Patriot? j/k

I think as an 11 time pro-bowler he will make it in as a Charger

11-time Pro Bowler: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002

does "out for season" mean until week 17 is over or until superbowl is over(play next year)

I'm trying to remember if Owens was on IR during the season.

I believe IR is done for the year with a big period at the end.

Yes, an injured reserve player is disabled for the entire season (that would include playoffs, etc). I think Hockey is the only sport where IR has a specified limit listed and then the player can come back.

Was it 11 pro-bowls or 12??? Getting different answers from different sites.
Seau out for the season

Junior Seau was placed on IR on Monday. The 12-time Pro Bowler was injured while making a tackle on Bears running back Cedric Benson in the second quarter of Sunday's game at Gillette Stadium.
The University of Southern California product has played in 241 career games with 237 starts for the San Diego Chargers (1990-2002), Miami Dolphins (2003-05) and New England Patriots (2006). The 6-foot-3-inch, 248-pound linebacker has recorded 1,794 career tackles (1,380 solo), including 53.0 sacks for 318.5 yards, 15 interceptions for 210 yards, 94 passes defensed, 12 forced fumbles and 17 fumble recoveries, including one returned for a touchdown. Seau earned 12 consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 1992-2003 and was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s. He has been an Associated Press first team All-Pro selection six times (1992-94, 1996, 1998, 2000) and has been a second-team All-Pro on two occasions (1995, 1999). In recognition of his off-the-field achievements, he was named the NFL’s Man of the Year in 1994.

Seau was originally drafted by the Chargers with the fifth overall selection in the 1990 NFL Draft. In his 13-year career with San Diego (1990-2002), Seau played in 200 games, tying him for first on the Chargers’ all-time list.

He was selected as the Chargers’ Most Valuable Player a team-record six times and led the team in tackles in eight of his 13 seasons in San Diego. The University of Southern California product missed only seven games over a 14-year span from 1990-2003.

He was traded by the Chargers to the Miami Dolphins on April 16, 2003 in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice. In his first year with Miami, he started all 15 games in which he played and finished second on the team with 133 tackles (81 solo), including three sacks. Over his last two seasons with Miami (2004-05), Seau started 13 of 15 games while recording a total of 101 tackles.

Does the hall of fame put you in for a specific team? Thought they did not do this like baseball does.

I thought that was the reason some players the Emmitt and Rice rejoin their team for a day. Not sure.

Tough, tough loss. This guy was a huge signing for the Pats. He was playing very well - better than any of his seasons in Miami, in my opinion.

Not sure who steps in from here. My guess is that Vrabel moves back inside for the 3-4, with Banta-Cain taking Vrabel's outside spot.

No, they just do that to make themselves feel better about having played for other teams.

He played in 12 consecutive Pro Bowls, from 1991 through 2002.In 1999 he was not voted to the Pro Bowl. But When Ray Lewis was unable to play due to injury, Seau was his replacement.

Those that saw the appalling picture already knew that. :X

Speaking as someone who has had their forearm turn into another elbow much in the same way Seau's did, its not something that hurts, but it is quite shocking to see your arm in such a shape.

I think this would be the plan. There's also been speculation that the Pats may align in more 4-3 looks but I don't think they're much more likely to do that than they would otherwise.

:goodposting: I remember when I broke my humerus (upper arm) clean through. I pulled up my shirt to look at my arm and what I first thought was my shoulder was only half way up my upper arm past the elbow. I remember it being kinda surreal and thinking, "Oh crap. I really ####ed up my arm." but I don't remember any pain right then; a lot of pain later, but right then not so much.Your body has a nice way of protecting you sometimes.

Which means he can choose to come back next year - it is not as if his body has been breaking down with little nagging injuries as far as I remember and he has certainly played with passion.

Seau said he'd be back in 2007.(blogger)

Hopefully the Pats re-sign him and draft someone to learn under he and Bruschi.
