Just Found Out My Kids are AT LEAST 3.125% Cherokee (1 Viewer)

Help us, Joebi-Wan Brynobi, you're our only ho
Last night I found out that my wife's great grandmother was 50% Cherokee, which makes my kids at least 3.125% Cherokee.

Anyone know what kinds of free stuff/benefits/scholarships my kids are entitled to/can apply for with this pedigree?

I'm looking for 4 years of free college tuition, a $500,000 life insurance policy, or a once a year check for $1.23 from proceeds from a casino owned by some Nation, or anything else really.

Also, anyone know how I would go about proving this in order to prove eligibility for hypothetical benefits?

Thanks!

You'll get that when Dr. Detroit gets his 40 acres and mule.

I'm about the same percentage Manisee Indian. It never got me anything. I hope that doesn't make you cry a Trail of Tears.

It's actually kind of cool, if this turns out to be true. My son is big into Boy Scouts and I'm sure he'll get a lot out of finding out there's Cherokee running through his veins. Crazy kid is taking German in high school just because I mentioned once that he has German in him.

Looks like there is no blood minimum to be a citizen, just need to trace lineage back to the "Dawes Final Rolls" compiled in 1899-1906/7.

Luckily, my great uncle has done a ton of geneological research on my Italian family, and I'm sure has the mad skillz to trace this back for us on my wife's side. I've asked my wife to get as many details from her mom as possible, since it sounds like we'll need certified birth and death certificates tracing lineage back to the Dawes Rolls in order to gain citizenship (and access to the booty).

The game is afoot!

It sounds like you need to apply to a tribe and prove you ancestory to qualify for anything. Usually it requires 1/4 blood. Maybe there is something out there, but I don't think you will get anything significant, which is exactly what you should expect.

Don't be surprised if your wife's great-grandmother wasn't Cherokee after all. Back the day, it was very common to cite "Indian blood" to fill in the gaps of a person's ancestry.

My father-in-law was 1/4 Cherokee. My little blonde-haired, blue-eyed kids always wanted to be the Indians in the elementary school Thanksgiving plays but never got to.

I had a buddy who got a 5 year full scholarship to Oregon St for the same thing. They didn't even ask for proof.
