Justin Fargas - Being overlooked? (1 Viewer)

Just curious as to what everyone's thoughts are for Fargas for the rest of the year.

FBG has him ranked fairly low in my opinion (37).

He is coming back from a groin injury, but he is getting the lion's share of the carries. He just faced Baltimore, obviously not good, but he still has Atl, Den, KC, and some other decent matchups as well.

To me he is a guy you can probably get for fairly cheap that will score solid points from here on out. Obviously not a top 5 guy from here on out (heck - Ronnie Brown, Torain, and BGE have 3 of those spots :lmao: ) but a solid RB2 down the stretch.

I grabbed him off the waiver wire, and I do like his schedule. That said, Oakland is playing from behind far too much for me to think I am going to get much use out of him.

Fargas is a nice insurance policy to have sitting on your bench, but just like insurance, you hope you never need to use it.

The problem with Fargas is that while he's getting lots of carries right now, its easy to imagine him only getting about 7-8 carries a game in the near future. As the season goes on they are likely to feature McFadden(assuming the toe gets right) and in lieu of that possibly increase Bush's workload.

That being said, he's probably a solid option against Atlanta this week. But I could see him getting a massive decrease in touches as soon as next week.

I think Oakland is close to shutting down McFadden for the remainder of the season..just two weeks ago, Fargas got 22 carries vs. Jets...surprisingly, the Raiders rank 11th in attempts, tied with Dallas ( 209).in attempts per game, Oakland ranks 10th with 29.9 attempts/gm, just behind 9th ranked Minnesota ( 30.0)if/when McFadden is finally shut down, Fargas' stock should rise...The Raiders do have a fairly easy schedule going forward, and in particular, the weeks leading up to the fantasy playoffs ( weeks 11-15..)Denver, Kc, Houston,Ne, SD...

:lmao:
:lmao: I've seen/heard nothing to suggest that is even a consideration.

Fargas has done little with his opportunities. I'd rather have M. Bush rostered personally.

I snatched him off the wire several weeks ago. I can't get myself to drop him for anyone that is available now. I'd drop F taylor before I'd let fa4rgas go. He hasn't done much for me but his matchups have been tough the whole time I've had him. Pretty much holding him for the KC game but I agree with the statement about insurance.

He averaged over 5 yards a carry on 27 attempts before getting hurt in week 2. First week back was against NO. Not a great game for him but McFadden and Bush did no better. The next two games were against top 5 run D's. He still got 74 yards vs the Jets though.

I don't know if they shut down McFadden or whatever, but it does sound like he has a pretty nast turf toe injury and that will likely linger for the rest of the season. I like Fargas getting 20 carries per game against his remaining schedule. if he costs you nothing, and you have the roster space, I would definitely pick him up right now... that schedule is too enticing, and he has a history of success.

I picked him up a couple weeks ago and even mentioned him in one of the "Overlooked Players" threads that was posted here. Appropriately, he was overlooked in that thread as well. :sadbanana:

I just like the guy precisely because he DOES seem to take advantage of his opportunities while he is in there. He seems to be the RB in Oakland that they always want to replace but can't. If McFadden continues to have his toe issues, Fargas will likely get lots of touches, which IMO makes him a great sleeper.

Darren McFadden has had turf toe in his right big toe since early in the season, but now the talented rookie is dealing with the same malady in his left big toe, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Apparently, McFadden is wearing Nikes, and the soft bottom of the shoes are an issue. He wore Adidas in college. The paper reports that Nike is looking into the matter.

Phil Knight should visit the Adidas store.

Thu, Nov 6 Fargas left the locker room on Thursday with a brace on his left wrist and forearm, the Associated Press reports.

Recommendation: Fargas was not listed on the team's injury report, so the brace on his arm is somewhat of a surprise. Expect more news about Fargas' injury to be available after Friday's practice.

Not sure if you watched any of Oakland's game vs. Atlanta? That was supposed to be a sneaky good start for Fargas too, against maybe an average run defense? - That had to be the worst offensive performance in the NFL for years, minus two runs by Russell, the offense had 31 yards, 1 first down, total, at home. I could be wrong, which I often am, but if I was that desperate I'd rather have backups like Ward or Leon Washington starting or even my bench than an Oakland RB, even as good as Fargas or M. Bush are or should be.

I'm beginning to worry about Cable being the HC instead of the O-line coach. This unit was blowing people off the line in the running game before Kiffen was axed. I haven't seen it since, and have to wonder if the time that was being devoted to coaching up the lineman has been cut so much that they are actually regressing mid-season.
