CLEVELAND -- Browns tight end Kellen Winslow underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to remove scar tissue and repair cartilage damage in his right knee.

Winslow

Winslow, who injured the knee in a May 2005 motorcycle accident, was released from the Cleveland Clinic and is expected to make a full recovery. Team physician Dr. Anthony Miniaci performed the surgery.

Winslow started all 16 games for the Browns last season, often playing in pain and limited in his blocking ability because of the knee.

But he tied the team's single-season receptions record (89) in what was essentially his rookie year after missing all but two games in 2004 with a broken leg and all of 2005 with the knee injury

It'll likely be a constant worry. This is his second arthroscopic "clean-out" procedure in 12 months. It's hard to know exactly how extensive the cartilage repair was but the most telling comment may have been Winslow's when he said the best this knee will ever be is 90%.

A TE with 89 receptions, in his first year of play coming off 2 injured seasons? Yeah, he has value. I'll take that "90%" production.

The nicknames for these players are so stupid they are hilarious.
hmmmm..you might have a point if he wasn't Kellen Winslow II
You might have a point if Kellen Winslow was referred to as "K".
Ah, you must be one of those ppl who wonders why adrian peterson is refered to as AD. K2 was kellen's nickname in college and btw all day was adrian peterson's ninckname in college
ADD is more catchy

 He's going to be a great fantasy TE, but if I had to guess it won't last all that long.

The full exent of the injuries to his knee were never fully disclosed by the Cleveland coaching staff/front office if I recollect correctly - they kept asking for people to "respect Kellen's privacy" and stock phrases like that - also, he had a staph infection in the incisions that complicated his recovery. In my opinion, the knee wrecked in the motorcycle accident was damaged severely enough that the strain of playing professional football makes it just a matter of time before he suffers another related injury to the ligaments/tendons (see also Correll Buckhalter's history of difficulties with his knees after reconstructive surgeries for a similar case) - it just simply isn't going to be as stable as a fully healthy joint and we've been told it'll never be 100% by the player in question. He's one solid hit to that joint away from blowing out the knee again. That said, I'd still draft him in a redraft league and hope he avoids further injury during 2007, as injuries are not predestined to occur, but I'd be leary of trading for him in a dynasty/keeper league as I agree with redman that his career is likely to be significantly shortened due to the damage from the motorcycle accident. Even if he doesn't blow out the knee again, he's likely to have trouble with wear and tear of the meniscus cartilage/bone-on-bone contact/bone chips/swelling in the joint, which shortened the career of Marshall Faulk (to name only one player so afflicted). My .02.
