Kansas State Marching band (1 Viewer)

As a Jayhawk fan, I'm not outraged. Pretty funny actually.

And it does look like the starship enterprise, if you squint and look past the big dong and balls.

Actually it does look like the Enterprise but why is it trying to smash the beak of a giant Jayhawk.

Good lord, I have a relative who is a Jayhawk, this will not be well received. This might start a civil war.
So far I've seen responses everywhere from "We're so deep in their heads they go after us during meaningless non-conference games" to "lets join the Big Ten or ACC and leave them behind"

You know, the Enterprise would never really crash into an enemy.

I think next time, the band should line-up so that the Enterprise fires phasers out of the front to hit the JayHawk in the mouth. That would be much more realistic.

 who doesn't like oral?

You've got ksu dreaming about finally getting some from the best mascot in sports.

How is Kansas football this year?
New coach. Former coach didn't really want the job, only took it because his son was a student there. Coming of seasons of losing a ####load of games, and lousy recruiting. I'll be surprised if this team wins three games.

That said, I liked the offense the new coach is installing. Looks fun to play in and should score some points. Hopefully some JC AAs and disgruntled freshmen at power programs like what they see and transfer in. Gonna take a while before 3-4 star players in Texas want to play in Lawrence as freshmen instead of riding the bench in Fort Worth, Austin, Waco, College Station, Norman or Stillwater.

Otherwise... 32 days and 19 hours until basketball practice starts.

KU really should have hired someone to wipe Mangino's poopy bottom.
Your mom wouldn't sign a multi-year deal.

Mangino was good at game preparation and player development, but he made a lot of enemies and was a minus-minus at stuff like raising money to upgrade facilities. Even without stuff like needing an assistant to back his car out of parking space because he couldn't turn and look out the rear window and the famous case of the maintenance staff fed up with literally dealing with his ####, he wasn't going to last another year or two.

Making this even weirder...

K-State required all students to agree to and sign a "Sportsmanship Pledge" in order to receive their student tickets. It's a new policy created mainly in reaction to an overzealous court-storming after K-State beat KU in basketball last season - a K-State student gave a blindside hit to a KU player as he stormed the court, and KU coach Bill Self narrowly avoided serious injury when he got pinned against the scorer's table while attempting to exchange postgame handshakes with the K-State coaches.

And then the band goes and puts a #### in a Jayhawk's mouth.

ETA: the K-State band director has posted charts from the drill and issued a statement.

"...There was absolutely no intent to display anything other than the Enterprise and the Jayhawk in battle. If I am guilty of anything it would be the inability to teach the drill in a manner that these young people could have succeeded. I do apologize for the misinterpretation and I assure you that I meant absolutely no disrespect or malice toward the University of Kansas."

Frank Tracz

Director of the K-State Marching Band

Apparently during this the band was playing music from Star Trek, and the Jayhawk was intended to stand in for an enemy spaceship called the Bird Of Prey.

My Mom passed away.

Lol "...Self narrowly avoided serious injury..." Yeah, ok. Jayhawks are so sensitive.

Yea, they really should have had it fire torepedos and had parts of the other band peal away as they hit. Still pretty funny.

We will always have Kansas 76 - Nebraska 21? Circa 2007.

Surprised Mangino hasn't popped up at a smaller school or MAC school or something.
He's getting back into the game. He spent a year or two as a I-AA coordinator, and Iowa State hired him last year. He coached the tight ends, and will be their offensive coordinator this season. So it's the level where you would expect someone to take a chance on him. If Iowa State sees a reduction in penalties and turnovers this season, he's still got it.

Jayhawks are so sensitive.
As exhibited by the complete lack of outrage expressed by Jayhawks fans in this thread over the event that triggered it.
Yeah all they've done is dug up the Kansas State student sportsmanship pledge required to be signed in order to get tickets.
Clearly that action exhibited a nuclear level of outrage. It was some sizzling HotSportsTakes material.

The Jayhawks here aren't exactly in a rage over this. On the whole, we're an easy going group.
Exactly. I laughed when I saw the photos and video. I was laughing about it with hardcore K-State fans minutes after it happened. I laughed when Mizzou fans would alter the second half of the M-I-Z cheer when KU was in the building. Saturday night was a harmless action in a rivalry that is harmless 99.99% of the time.

Seems like an odd move for K-State when they are playing South Dakota, but whatever. It was talked about a little bit in the paper here, but most don't care.

I'd put the odds of KU winning a game this season at 50/50.

Apparently KU doesn't think it was harmless considering they have filed a complaint of unsportsmanlike conduct against KSU with the Big XII Conference. So, yeah, Jayhawks are sensitive.

Not sure how much faith I'd put in her post.

I would sure hope this part isn't true. "my husband has received emails stating that they are trying to get his name added to the list of sexual predators as well as threats if he shows his face in Lawrence"

or at least, the emails aren't coming from anyone with authority.

but there are idiots everywhere. I won't pretend Lawrence would be immune.

Sounds like K State doesn't like consequences. Probably should save the Jayhawk bashing for when KU is actually in town.

Well, KU isn't in town this year. So, are you saying the issue was using the Jayhawk during the show and not the "inappropriate" use? It's not uncommon to use a rival in the halftime show of a different game. Here's a link of tOSU taking shots at Michigan during halftime of a game against Penn State.

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/10/ohio-state-marching-band-michigan-wolverines

The halftime show is meant to entertain the home crowd and, frankly, KSU fans couldn't care less about the South Dakota Coyotes or seeing their likeness fighting the USS Enterprise during the halftime show.

And here are the consequences...straight out of the ####ification of America handbook.

  • A one game suspension for Frank Tracz, director of bands. The suspension will only be for the Nov. 28 game against KU.
  • For violating the league’s sportsmanship policy, the university will pay a self-imposed $5,000 fine to the Big 12 Conference.
  • All band halftime show content must have prior approval from the Office of Student Life and the Athletic Department.

I do think the big part was the use of the Jayhawk - from the President of K-State in his letter to the band

"The Big 12 Conference has a clear policy on sportsmanship, and our conference commissioner felt that the use of another university's mascot was inappropriate and did not uphold the spirit of sportsmanship that we strive for in our conference. Because of this, I have put in place several self-imposed sanctions, including a $5,000 fine, a review of all band programs by members of K-State Athletics and the Office of Student Life, and a game-day suspension of the director of bands for our game on Nov. 28 against the University of Kansas."

It was 76-39.

:bag:

Congrats. It was 1 of their 2 wins in my lifetime. I'm 46.
