Jayhawks are so sensitive.
As exhibited by the complete lack of outrage expressed by Jayhawks fans in this thread over the event that triggered it.
Yeah all they've done is dug up the Kansas State student sportsmanship pledge required to be signed in order to get tickets.
The Jayhawks here aren't exactly in a rage over this.On the whole, we're an easy going group.
Exactly. I laughed when I saw the photos and video. I was laughing about it with hardcore K-State fans minutes after it happened. I laughed when Mizzou fans would alter the second half of the M-I-Z cheer when KU was in the building.Saturday night was a harmless action in a rivalry that is harmless 99.99% of the time.
Apparently KU doesn't think it was harmless considering they have filed a complaint of unsportsmanlike conduct against KSU with the Big XII Conference. So, yeah, Jayhawks are sensitive.

Sounds like K State doesn't like consequences. Probably should save the Jayhawk bashing for when KU is actually in town.
Well, KU isn't in town this year. So, are you saying the issue was using the Jayhawk during the show and not the "inappropriate" use? It's not uncommon to use a rival in the halftime show of a different game. Here's a link of tOSU taking shots at Michigan during halftime of a game against Penn State.

The halftime show is meant to entertain the home crowd and, frankly, KSU fans couldn't care less about the South Dakota Coyotes or seeing their likeness fighting the USS Enterprise during the halftime show.

And here are the consequences...straight out of the ####ification of America handbook.

  • A one game suspension for Frank Tracz, director of bands. The suspension will only be for the Nov. 28 game against KU.
  • For violating the league’s sportsmanship policy, the university will pay a self-imposed $5,000 fine to the Big 12 Conference.
  • All band halftime show content must have prior approval from the Office of Student Life and the Athletic Department.
Wow, how strange that Michigan and Ohio State aren't bound by a Big XII policy.

All three sanctions imposed were internal decisions by K-State. The only handbook they were operating out of was their own.

FWIW, all three seem excessive, with #3 really high on the egregiousness scale and #1 just plain silly.

I do think the big part was the use of the Jayhawk - from the President of K-State in his letter to the band

"The Big 12 Conference has a clear policy on sportsmanship, and our conference commissioner felt that the use of another university's mascot was inappropriate and did not uphold the spirit of sportsmanship that we strive for in our conference. Because of this, I have put in place several self-imposed sanctions, including a $5,000 fine, a review of all band programs by members of K-State Athletics and the Office of Student Life, and a game-day suspension of the director of bands for our game on Nov. 28 against the University of Kansas."

An interestingly strict standard being set by Bowlsby for marching bands considering he used to be A.D. at Stanford.

How is Kansas football this year?
What's football? Must be some kind of intramural activity in between basketball seasons.
I think it's something they do in the infield of the track during the fall.
I got season tickets for me and my son for $12.75.
I haven't been to a football game in Lawrence in years. The last time I went I drove in from KC, and bought a parking space from a guy who had his car parked along 11th real close to the stadium. He said if I gave him five bucks he would move his car. I pulled a Lincoln out of my wallet, he fired up his engine, and he went to find another open space to occupy and sell. Seemed a bit shady, but I admired the kid's entrepreneurial spirit.

last time I went we beat K-State and stormed the field. Those were the Mangino and Talib years.

Never said they were, just an example of one school poking fun at a rival when the rival wasn't in town.

It's a good thing Texas A&M got out when they did or they'd have to change their school song.

The narrative you were trying to create was that KU was a bunch a tattling babies complaining about alleged inappropriate mascot use, and that nothing would have happened until KU went ##### on the situation. That's not what happened. Michigan and Ohio State are irrelevant to the context. K-State's self-imposed sanctions were in response to a conference-wide policy, a conference that does not include Michigan or Ohio State. This was all between K-State and its conference.

I agree the sportsmanship policy is silly and overreaching; I disagree with your version of the story telling how we got here. But be patient with me. I'm not capable of looking at small half-truths and drawing sweeping conclusions about large groups of people like you can. I need more information and time to make up my mind.

As a Jayhawk fan, I'm not outraged. Pretty funny actually.

And it does look like the starship enterprise, if you squint and look past the big dong and balls.
 who doesn't like oral?

You've got ksu dreaming about finally getting some from the best mascot in sports.
Rocky is the best mascot in all of sports. FYI.
 really, the Philly fanatic would be the best mascot.
If this were Linked In I'd endorse you for being wrong.

Enlighten me. If you're talking about the sensitive comment then you're proving my point, one Jayhawk at a time.

So KU didn't file the complaint with the Big XII. Still sensitive?

I can't. You're too emotionally hijacked in this thread to listen to anyone besides yourself. The issue here isn't anyone's alleged sensitivity; it's your demonstrated obstinance. Have you noticed how many statements and claims you've made in this thread have turned out to not be true? I'm not just talking about differences of opinion or degree here. There are things you have said that have been proven objectively false.

At least 90% of the extended contentious exchanges I have here are with people who feel entitled to their own set of rules and/or their own set of facts. What college anyone identifies with is immaterial to that.

I think there's still an interesting conversation to be had in the aftermath of last Saturday's halftime show in Manhattan, but I don't think you're the person to have it with.

FWIW, I believe the K-State band director's explanation for what happened on the field that night.

if loving the fanatic (and I don't even like baseball) and the Jayhawks is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I believe the only thing that I said that is untrue was that KU filed a formal complaint. I pulled that from a public posting by the wife of the band director. Not sure why she would go public with that if she didn't think there was some truth to it, she's closer to the situation than just about anybody. She has since deleted the post in an effort to "get things to calm down." Maybe she lied, maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle. But, yes, that was untrue.

The fact is that a good man's name has been drug through the mud and he has been publicly reprimanded. Frankly, I have a much larger problem with KSU administration not defending their own than I would with KU even if they had filed a formal complaint. If the Conference wanted to take action without a formal complaint being filed and clearly define what is or is not allowed during a performance, fine, but for KSU to throw Dr. Tracz under the bus like that is ridiculous.

The "Jayhawks are sensitive" comment was a jab at a rival just like when KU fans wear "Purple Pu**ies" shirts, the EMAW jokes, chanting start up the tractor instead of start up the bus at basketball games, call KSU fans rednecks, or wearing any number of shirts that were sold by Joe College. Nothing more, nothing less. I guess in this day and age I'll have to be PC going forward and say some Jayhawks are sensitive. Which was demonstrated by discussions I've personally had with SOME fans and the threats that Dr. Tracz received. http://1350kman.com/interview-with-ksu-band-director-frank-tracz/

Moving on.
