Although Chiefs GM Carl Peterson has said that free-agent pickup OLB Demorrio Williams will provide valuable depth for the LB corps, it would be a considerable surprise if Williams doesn’t secure a starting job. We’re hearing that the primary LB battle will be waged in the middle between Napoleon Harris and Donnie Edwards. Just because Harris played decently as the 2007 starting “Mike” doesn’t automatically make him the favorite. Edwards has played extensively both inside and outside throughout his distinguished 12-year career.

I'm not sold Harris has the instincts or intangibles to be a good "Mike" backer. The fact he's been with 3 teams in his 6 years, says something.

I believe that Cecil and Bloom had someone on from KC, which the person very surely that Edwards isn't moving to the middle. She said the same thing I did that she isn't sure where all the talk is that they didn't like Harris. There is going to be competition all over the place on the Chiefs this year but don't assume Edwards is moving inside.

We'll have to see how this plays out. I'm not sure if Rhonda Moss is one of the more respected media people in Kansas City. I understand she has a reputation of rubbing people the wrong way. I read one person describe her as "an edgy, rude and mean kind of person. At one time the KC Royals yanked her press credentials.

Well I guess you and her need to listen to Herm Edwards a bit more.
The Chiefs plan to use Williams as a starter at one outside linebacker position, with Donnie Edwards moving to the middle. Derrick Johnson would keep his starting spot, with middle linebacker Napoleon Harris moving to the bench.

Edwards indicated that plan could change.

“(Williams has) played both spots on the outside, and Donnie’s played in the middle and on the outside,” Edwards said. “So we’re going to create competition, and the best three guys are going to play.
and also
Edwards said the Chiefs would not release Harris, who was signed as a free agent last year.

“But he’s got to play better,” Edwards said. “He knows that.”

I'll agree that I was wrong they weren't happy with Harris's play. However, I guess you could argue that all three need to play better otherwise there wouldn't be competition. It also doesn't say that Edwards is moving to the middle either.

sorry if it came across as offensively, meant it as a tongue in cheek type comment

but as for him not saying moving to the middle, I think if you read between the lines it's pretty clear. He mentions that Edwards may shift to the middle, and then given the contract they gave to Williams you would have to think he's going to start. DJohnson isn't going anywhere, Demorrio can't play the middle, so there is only really one situation that is left. Edwards or Harris in the middle. Given the two choices, I would think Edwards wins that battle unless age catches up to him, but then again, we've been waiting for years for age to catch up to him so who knows.

i guess we would have to see his contract

his deal was 6 years, 24.5 million, seems like it was a 6 million signing bonus, so prorated at 1 million per year.

not sure what his base is this year but that's a pretty expensive backup, if they cut him, they take a 5 million dead money hit, but after June 1, 2.5 per year wouldn't be that bad.

I think this is similar to the situation in Atlanta, with Brooking. I have agree pinda ... Edwards wins that battle unless age catches up to him.

Didn't Demorrio play the middle in ATL in 2005?

why keyaron fox doesn't start annoys me.. the guy is better then dwilliams.. hands down...
Fox is no longer with Kansas City3/12/2008

Keyaron Fox signed a one-year contract Wednesday with the Pittsburgh Steelers that will pay him the minimum salary of $605,000 for a four-year veteran.

Fox played the past four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs after being drafted in the third round in 2004. He's expected to be a backup linebacker and play on special teams, the same role he filled for the Chiefs.
