KC Pass Defense....are they for real? (1 Viewer)

OK they gave up nothing fantasy wise to Palmer and Plummer. Was this a fluke or do we have a real pass defense now in KC?

I ask because I originally was thinking of starting Alex Smith before I really looked into the matchup....which isn't all that great.

Anyone have any input?

I have watched every snap of the first two games...and as a KC fan it looks MUCH different then the Vermeil era defense. I don't remember the last time we went to DEN and held them to 2 FGs in regulation. Having Law and Surtain helps on the corners.

The biggest thing for people looking at picking up KC's DEF is that is changing dramatically. Tamba Hali is now stating over Eric Hicks. Jarrod Page replaced Sammy Knight in both of the first two games @ SS. He may start this week. You have two new DT's who, wile they are unspectacular, are doing MUCH better than Ryan Sims ever did.

I honestly think KC is a DEF on the rise. They are still somewhat prone to the big run. RUdi Johnson's 22 yard TD run in Week 1 a prime example. Other than that run, he averaged under 4 per carry.

Also, for this week, since the beginning of the 1995 season, KC is 18-4 @ home versus NFC opponents...and two of thsoe losses were in 2001, when DV was rebuilding and had the worst record in the last 20 seasons.

I didn't see the DEN game but CIN had 3-4 KC turnovers to work with and great field position all game and the loss of T Green which dominated the end score (KC is better than that score indicates).

That being said, KC has only one sack which is piss poor but the secondary is playing almost great. They've tipped so many balls without coming up with the INT that it looks like they're nervous out there. I think the DB's have been playing great and expect to see a lot more INT's in future games this season. They're my pick for the most underrated DEF this year.

They upgraded quite a bit on defense this year. Four new starters (3 DL and 1 CB) and a lot more depth...something that was sorely lacking last year. They do a lot of rotation to keep guys fresh, and it's worked really well so far. I can go in depth about the specific players, but you probably don't want to hear all that. Let's just say that last year, they had one completely crappy corner and couldn't get pressure on the QB with the front four. They fixed both those problems this year.I think the only big pass play they've given up was to DEN in OT, and that was only because Plummer underthrew it. Cincy scored 23pts because they started six drives in KC territory. If the Offense and special teams of KC hadn't played so poorly, that score would have looked more like the DEN game.I wouldn't want to start a young QB in Arrowhead anyway, they've almost always pummeled them.
Arrowhead Traditionally Tough For First-Time Coaches, QBsSince ‘94, the Chiefs are 23-5 (.821) against head coaches making their regular season debuts at Arrowhead. Kansas City has also won 17 of its last 19 games against QBs in their first or second year as NFL starters who are making their initial appearance as a starter at Arrowhead. SF head coach Mike Nolan and QB Alex Smith will both make their initial appearances in their current roles at Arrowhead on Sunday.
