Here's the blurb. I don't get it. Why aren't the chief's cutting ties with him....

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have reached a settlement with RB Larry Johnson regarding his suspension. Johnson will still be suspended two weeks, but he will only lose one game check

If true, then LJ will be playing after he gets back from the suspension. I guess they could deactivate him the rest of the season, then cut him in the off season. Anyone know the amount he re-upped for a couple years ago when he held out?

The "deal" is that he gets paid during the BYE week, but still is not allowed to practice with the team.

I still expect him to be deactivated for the remainder of the season.

PFT reported Friday that the NFLPA and the NFL were not eager to see Larry Johnson's appeal of his two-week suspension head to a hearing for a variety of reasons.

On Saturday, everyone got their wish.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Chiefs and Larry Johnson have settled his appeal of a two-week suspension. Johnson will still be suspended two weeks, but he will only be docked one game check.

The compromise means that Johnson is essentially getting paid one week to stay away from the team. But the decision was apparently a better option for all parties than heading to a hearing.

There was speculation that a settlement could include Johnson's release, but it remains unclear what the Chiefs will do with him once he's eligible to return. Reading the tea leaves, it looks like Johnson could be stuck in Kansas City for the rest of the season, even if his playing time is reduced.

Seriously, why would the Chiefs want to play him even one more down? Slow, tons of mileage, not in their long term plans, season over re contention. Makes no sense to keep this cancer around. This is just an interim decision re pay. They can still deactivate him every game if they want, or release him outright, which he'll want - with pay of course.

LJ was dropped in my league, so what are the chances that LJ plays again for KC this season, and has FF value?
This is a RB who turns 30 next month, is carrying the ball at a 2.7 YPC, the team is 1-6, and he just disrespected his head coach, fans, and media. He has a succession of off field problems, was suspended last year because of it, was nearly released last offseason, and certainly won't be back with KC next year.I'd say at this point there is no reason whatsoever to let him see the field again this year. The trade deadline has passed so they either release or simply sit him each week. They need to see what their younger players can do. Fantasy value this year? About as much as my fantasy value. Zero.

At this point it's all guesswork. No one really knows, but I'm leaning toward: regardless of what happens, his fantasy value going forward will be minimal.

Well, I'm pretty sure they can't just cut him simply cause they'd be willing with a major salary cap hit. They'll keep him on the orster for the remainder of the season and then cut ties for good, whether they try to trade him for any draft picks or just release him.

But dealing with this mid-season is nowhere near as simple as just "cut him loose" as many might think.

I don't expect KC to cut him during the season, but you never know.

Look at the almost $30MIL they are under the cap and the FA's they signed since the front office shake up.

It's pretty obvious to me that if they aren't willing to pay quality talent to come in and play they won't be willing to pay no talent to leave.

signed,

puzzled and pizzed off KC fan.

Is it just me, or did Larry Johnson become "no talent" at the exact same time that his O-Line turned absolutely horrible?

He'll get a shot somewhere.

agreed. I love the "ton's of mileage" reference on LJ to...the guy sat behind Holmes forever. I think there's plenty left in the tank, and if he lands behind the right line he'll be a top 10 ff back again.

LJ wants to become the all time leading rusher for Kansas City. He needs 75 yards. I am willing to bet this came up during their meeting and had influence on the outcome.

even if he does play, does he really add any value to your FF team?!? seriously, you can grab a flavor of the week from the WW and get better production. i'm thinking he's played his last game in the NFL TBH...

Umm, it's the CHIEFS??

There doesn't seem to be any correlation between mileage and drop in production. The age of 30 is pretty much a brick wall for all RBs unless their name is Marcus Allen.

which is another reason why he probably won't see the field. I doubt they are going to be too enthused if he breaks the record.

He was a waiver wire guy who no one started before this. Unless he went to another team ( which is not going to happen this year) hes worthless. Guys on byes had more fantasy success then LJ.

Why would KC want him to break that record? You would think they would think the opposite and deactivate him each week.

If I were the Chiefs, I would just name him the backup and ignore him as long as they have healthy RBs.

Why cut him? Why acknowledge him? If you need him, he is there. If not, mo betta.

I don't think the Chiefs particularly care if be breaks the team rushing record or not. They're not going to make business decisions based on pettiness or "making a statement". If they think he'll help the team on the field, he'll play. If not, he won't.

Why should this even be a factor? The Chiefs stink right now, and they need to worry more about winning games than whether a player breaks a team record or not.LJ called out his coach for being inexperienced. So what? Todd Haley is inexperienced. I am not defending LJ, although I have yet to read his exact comments, but I think once the suspension is served, the Chiefs would be well served to utilize LJ. His lack of production is less about his running ability than it is poor O-line play and scheming.Maybe LJ was onto something: Todd Haley is a former college golfer with no football playing experience. Time will tell, but right now Haley looks incapable of leading a NFL team.

:goodposting: about the "giving the team the best chance to win" or "Chiefs care about winning games" sentiment.

They're not making the playoffs this year. They're horrible. The best thing for the franchise isn't to try and go 4-12. Who cares about that? They should be looking toward what they want this franchise to do next year and the year after and take the steps now, this year, to get them closer to that goal.

LJ may be 100% correct (and I'd agree with him so far) but that doesn't make it right. If you got a new boss at work, even if he is an idiot, it's not the smartest thing in the world to tell everyone including your boss that he's an idiot. It's basic common sense, which he seems to be lacking. This isn't the 1st example either.

Another news report here is that LJ has appealed to the union. My guess is the Chiefs might want to Keyshawn him, give him neither the satisfaction of getting released and then landing with a needy team (maybe even one with a legit playoff shot) nor hanging around and getting the disruption and attention he craves in the media and locker room all year, but the union and the CBA don't allow a team to just do whatever they want. However, the team has addressed this infraction now and can tack on more penalties after the two weeks. I don't think this thing is over with ("After his suspension ends, Johnson could be subject to additional punishment....".

:goodposting: “My father got more credentials than most of these pro coaches. … google my father!!!!!!!”

“My father played for the coach from ‘remember the titans’. Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefly. Our coach. Nuthn”

BFD. The truth hurts I guess. Haley should have just come out and called him a baby....seemed to work before.

Keyshawn sat a year, Chiefs should have stuck to their guns.

I usually like to see players on losing teams upset so that I can see there really is some fire inside them. I wonder at times with the perennial losers. This went too far and he acted like a jerk. It was so beyond being just unhappy with losing.

Meshawn struggled to find a new team.

Antonio didn't do much after his Parcells incident and was soon out of the league.

Pacman is history despite the talent.

Where's Matt Jones and all his talent?

Texans had a rookie G from Oklahoma. He was arrested twice in 24 hours for driver paperwork stuff and his career was over before it began. No one picked him up either.

Plax is making NYG license plates

Chris Henry was told no more or you're done and he's been very well behaved.

Owens and Moss haven't done any of their shenanigans for a long while and Ocho just does little tiny fun stuff.

I almost want LJ done so I can continue to feel like Goodell is having an impact on behavior and owners are listening to him and not just spending their $ based on talent. It improves the quality of the game and lets donations and good will be main stories in the offseason instead of that junk.
