Keep the 1st pick....or trade it (1 Viewer)

I've got the 1st pick in a 12-team redraft, trying to decide whether to trade down to 6/7/8.

1QB

2RB

2WR

1PK

1DEF

7pts/TD

1pt/10 yds rushing

1pt/10 yds receiving

1pt/10 yds passing

Our draft is typically RB heavy due to scoring rules. I'm locked in on LT2 as the number 1, but I'm afraid that by the time the turn comes, there will be no good RB2 left. I know I can get two top WR's in Rounds 2/3 and pick up mediocre RB's in rounds 4/5 (maybe even 6 as well) before looking for two solid second tier QB's in rounds 7 and 8, but I'm tempted to trade down to the 6/7/8 slot and go for a Rudi Johnson/Edgerrin James pairing. Any thoughts?

no offense, but this sounds like a ridiculously easy decision. you only start 5 "skill" players compared to 7 in most leagues. therefore, you want the best STUDS in those slots that you can get. therefore, picks 1-3 have a substantial advantage in this setup.on the other hand, your QB scoring rules are ######ed. 7 pt per passing TD and 1 pt per 10 yards passing means that the projection for Manning @ 3800yds/32 TDs would yield over 600 points scored. QBs become WAY overvalued in this arrangement.i wouldn't play in your league if i were you

Take whoever you think is #1 LT, Larry or Shaun and don't look back!!!! :banned:

You cannot even get close to their type of production elsewhere. You will still be able to get a solid RB 2 in the 2nd and a quality WR on the flip turn.

There is absolutely no way you trade down...

What incentive do you think you'll get for giving up # 1? Or just trading 1/24 for 6/18 straight up? Any of the top 3 plus whatever RB you get at 24/25 could easily beat the mid-range picks who flip flop in and out of the top ten year to year.

I'd be extremely reluctant to trade away the first, second, or third pick in almost any league format this year, unless the deal was crazily in my favor.

I would keep it and echo the sentiments that having 2 picks at the turn at 2/3 is really going to be where you can capitalize- W Parker, Holt, Harrison, Wayne, Boldin, Dunn, etc. I believe that the consensus is to NOT move out of the top 3 this year.

Historically, the success rate of top-3 picks is very high, while the success rate in the rest of the first round is much, much lower. If you have a top-3 pick, don't you dare let it go. If you don't... trade out of the first round entirely and stock up on 2nd and 3rd rounders. Just my opinion.

In your unusual (to be kind) scoring system, Manning should go #1. He should double the yardage and TD production of the top RB in the league, and he'll be significantly better than any other QB to such a great degree that you almost have to take him. And the few QBs who might throw for similar yardage won't match his TD production imo. That wouldn't normally be that big of a deal, but in your system it is.

If you're sure the first three picks will be RBs, trade down to #4, take whatever you can get and select Manning. He's less injury prone than any RB and you don't really have to draft a backup. You have time to pick up a bye week replacement and swing a trade if you think you'll need someone else in the SB. Use the slots on extra backs and receivers and hope something pans out.

I know that'snot the conventional wisdom, but you have an unconventional scoring system by giving 1 pt for every 10 passing yards and 7 pts for a passing TD.

With your scoring, I would try to trade my 1st and 4th round picks to the guy at the 4 spot for his 1st and 2nd picks. The guy with the 4th may bite, because he will think the dropoff from LJ/LT/SA to the next group of people is huge. Then you go like this:

1.4 - Peyton - He will blow away all other QB's in your league

2.9 - Best available RB/WR

2.12 - Best available RB/WR

3.1 - Best available RB/WR

And, if any one of the top 3 guys takes Peyton, you still get LJ, LT, or SA in the first round. Four picks in the top 25 would be killer.
