Keeper Discussion (1 Viewer)

Just a tad bit early to start talking fantasy baseball but just wanted some input on some keepers I have to lock in.

I am in a 12 team H2H Points, 3 keeper league. It's not Roto but it is very competitive and because of it being H2H points, pitching tends to have a bit of an increased value with 7 pts per win, 3 per IP.

My top 2 keepers are going to be Trout and Kershaw. For my third spot I am deciding between Goldschmidt and Jose Fernandez. I feel like all the information says it is a easy choice for Goldy but I just need some reassurance.

Do you keep Goldy or Fernandez?

For reference, top 5 hitters last year = Cabrera, Trout, Goldy, Davis, McCutchen, scoring 650-550 pts.

Top 5 pitchers = Kershaw, Scherzer, Wainwright, Lee, Darvis, scoring 750-650 pts.

As you can see top pitching like Kershaw last year can kill points with 750 over a 650 Trout.

Last year Goldy scored 622 3.9 PPG and Fernandez scored 540 19PPG.

We get $18 worth of keepers. Below is my team with their 2014 keeper value. What do you think?

Option 1: Trout, Cutch, Hamels, Alvarez (or trade someone for a better $1 player?)

Option 2: Trout, Tulo, Pedroia

Option 3: A-Rod, throw $16 back.

I think if you work backwards from the assumption that you're obviously keeping Trout, it becomes a little bit easier.

I think #2 might be best, but I like hitting.

I guess this is where ill plan on going. Not exactly thrilled about it.

This may sound a little unconventional, but Trout, Strasburg, Greinke, Hamels could be a nice stash for $18.

Two first-rounders and a 2nd/3rd rounder?
Yeah its the Tulo part that makes me nervous. If he wasnt so brittle i'd be more excited.

That's pretty interesting.
Assuming you spend your first 5-6 picks on hitting, you should be pretty balanced 10 players into it.
There's not going to be much hitting to choose from.

Pitchers get hurt constantly, and there are always going to be good arms avail. for people who are willing to dig for them. Go hitters.

For Wrigley, I'd rank Walker over Ubaldo. Wouldn't even consider Kelly.

Miggy, E3, Eaton, Anibal OR Walker + Ubaldo

Would suck to throw back Scherzer, but with Miggy and E3 your offense is very well situated.

Hanley, Ellsbury and Felix are givens. Depends on how you feel about Pujols' chances of a rebound. Is there a MI position? Zobrist definitely has value in a league that requires 3 starting MIs.

5 player keeper league. We can only keep players 3 years. I have four locks but cant figure out the last plus i hate keeping too many pitchers but might not have a choice...

My 4 locks... Harper, goldy, sale, fernandez

My fifth... Minor, wacha, werth, gyorko, ryu, or jansen... Ugh

I like Gyorko. He played well once he got healthy, and I'm planning to target him in my leagues as a sleeper. But Minor is probably the safer pick.

No MI, just a UTIL.

Agree, I'm having issues about the 4th player.

My first round pick will be around 9th or 10th out of 16.

Here's one that gets more interesting at the end. Last year I kept a closer, who I ended up dropping, and I was one of the only teams keeping a closer.

Average league, $260 cap

$41 Adam Jones

$30 Jay Bruce

I can also restrict Bruce at $25 or pay $30 and keep him this year and next for that price. 12 keepers total, I have my other 11 picked out I think but this was is giving me some trouble. At the draft Jones probably goes around $45, Bruce probably between $35 and $40 depending on who is left. Maybe less, not sure. I have about $80 tied up in the other 11 keepers FWIW.

Unless you expect league inflation to be about 50%, I'd let them both walk in a 10 team mixed. Those are superstar prices. Neither of those guys are superstars.

Here is one of my league

We get 5 years to disperse to players (Can be one guy for 5, 5 guys for 1 or any combo)

Right now, I have Trout for 2 and Harper for 1 with 2 years left to give. I can drop Harper and get his year back with no penalty

So Trout (Rd 12) at 2 years is a no brainer. What do I do with the remaining 3 years between these guys

Machado (Rd 10)

S Miller (Rd 18)

A Cobb (Rd 14)

J Segura (Rd 22)

C Granderson (Rd 10)

B Harper (Rd 17)- 1 year remaining

Im leaning on dropping Harper and keeping Segura, Cobb and Miller. I may have a taker for Machado for a 3rd rounder but unsure about that. The guy offered me a first for him last year and I turned it down.

$25 seems like the best option of the 3. Especially if what u posted will be their values on draft day.

Why would you want to drop Harper? I may be reading this wrong, but I'd think you'd want to keep Trout, Harper, Segura and Machado.

He hasnt done much. he was good at the beginning of last year and then tailed off. I was figuring on keeping the pitching so I didnt have to worry about it. Maybe you are right though. I can keep all four guys you listed.

I would just assume that its much easier to acquire a guy like Miller/Cobb in the draft than it would be to replicate the upside of Harper.

It's a 12 team keeper, 12 players kept, you can keep up to five years. Bryce Harper is $7, Mike Trout is $6, and Kipnis is $3 for example.

$41 is not a superstar price, Cabrera went for $60 last year.

Nats-colored glasses here, but Harper was playing through a number of injuries last year. He wasn't the same after crashing into the wall. I think you'll see closer to his early season form this year.

Well, Cabrera is at close to 50% inflation there. But anywho, I'd keep Bruce. He's cheaper, Jones will only run less as he ages, he's got a crazy low walk rate, and his swinging strike rate is trending poorly. Not a guy I'd be looking to invest that much in.

12 team h2h 10 team keeper. 1 ulitity spot I need him w last keeper. Gyorko vs Cespedes The 9 that are in:

Davis

Kipnis

Kbog

Stanton

Harper

Carlos Gonzales

Strasburg

Kershaw

Felix

I can keep Gyorko w (2nd/3rd base eligibility) or cespedes (at ulitity)??? Lean Gyorko but tantalized by cespedes upside and power. What u fellas think???
