Keeper League Draft (1 Viewer)

My league switched to keeper last year, and there are talks about how we should run the draft.

The commish suggested we do reverse order from standings for the first 2 rounds, then start a snake draft from the 3rd round on.

I’m  down if this is standard, just want to make sure we’re not doing anything whacky. Also open to any suggestions. Thanks!

How many players do you get to keep?  If it is only a couple then just do a standard snake draft with a random draft order.    Last year's finish should only come into play if you are keeping the majority of your roster.

As Gally alluded to, the answer depends on a lot of factors such as how many players are being kept, what, if any cost is associated with keeping players (forfeit draft picks or not).

Unfortunately there is no true "standard", as there so many nuances to how people run keeper leagues, but I would tend to agree that the fewer keepers you have, the more the draft should be a standard snake draft (with keepers slotted in if you decide to forego draft picks and or allow a variable number of keepers), and more of a straight NFL style draft the closer you are to a dynasty league where the draft is primarily rookies.

Realistically this is something that should have been discussed and decided last year prior to the season being played, as the keeper rules and draft set up will have an affect on player values when it comes to trades.

We keep 3. The top 4 teams pick last in reverse order. It is just a normal snake draft, so if you won the league you go last in the first, then first in the second etc. The other teams are just random.

He is trying to establish a fair league because he knows the keeper situation. However, this can rock the wrong way and be a disaster. What I would propose is that you all start anew with a random redraft. Knowing that from now on there are keepers. Float the idea and report back.

That is what they did last year.  They announced it would be a keeper.  They just didn't decide on the draft order for the following year.  Everyone drafted last year knowing they will be able to keep players.  Now they need to decide on the draft rules (should have been figured out at last year's draft once they announced keepers).  Based on not deciding it last year it should actually be how they have always done it unless everyone can agree to something different.

It would be really helpful to make a suggestion if we knew how many players are able to be kept.

Yes. This I can agree with you on. ;)
