Keeper Strategy (1 Viewer)

I won't get into specific player names because I want to get input on strategy here, not specific players.

We keep six players this year. 10 team league, basic scoring. Right now I have four RB's slated to be first round FF draft picks. Of the rest of my roster I will keep one WR and one QB. My question is would you keep all four(we can only start two) or would you try to trade one to balance the team a little more. I am pretty sure I can get a top 5 WR for my RB 3.

My thoughts on this. I have worked hard to acquire this stable of RB's and I was first in rushing in our league last year. The problem is two of these guys are on my bench every week and it drives me nuts trying to figure wdis. If I trade one then my choices are limited and my WR are set each week. It seems like a no brainer but I can't seem to pull the trigger an trading a top RB.

I draft in the 5 slot next year and would be pretty sure I could get a solid WR, TE, or rookie RB at that pick.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. TIA

Trade one for a top WR.3 RBs in Keep 6 is probably about right.I'd assume you are keeping 3 RBs, 2 WRs and a QB, unless you have a Top 5 TE.Collect the best 6 Top 50 caliber players in your scoring system. Trade everything else for anything you can get.

I would wait until after the draft to trymake any sort of trade.

A 1st round rated RB is worth more than a top 5 WR...unless its the top WR.

You should be able to get a top 5 wr + a te upgrade or something after the draft...or a decent RB along with the wr

Not knowing who your keepers are, the smaller the league and the less the number of players you start, the greater the premium is on the uber-elite Top 3-5 studs.

You have four of the Top 10 RBs and still finished poorly enough to have the 1.05 pick? That means you don't have enough of these premium studs in your starting line-up.

If any of those RBs can evolve into a Top 3-5 back, keep them. Otherwise, package whatever else you can to add a couple more of those mega-elites.

its exactly the opposite. deeper the league = higher value on super duper uber studs.

I agree with this. Go ahead and shop 1 but you can always make this sort of trade after the draft too. Keep your most valuable keepers and then balance out your roster after the draft if you need to.

Sorry friend, but you're wrong.

The amount of uber-studs is finite. For arguments sake we'll say there are 15 in the whole NFL. Spread out over 16 FF teams, at least one team will have none with most will having one. With 10 teams, most should have one and half could have two.

Regardless, all teams fill out with non-uber stud players - players who are much more closely grouped to each other by point differentials. So, the smaller the league the greater the need is to have more than one uber-stud player. You need at least two or three to win the league.

Now if you want to say the larger the league the greater the "advantage" having the uber-stud is, THAT I can agree with since the average team in a 16 teamer should theorhetically score less on average team on a 10 teamer.

So, long story short, the smaller the league the greater the need for the Top 3-5 ultra studs.

what he said! :lmao: ...but as others said, in May, after the draft---because we don't know the players involved, hard to speculate what the situations are

for example, Benson value looks to be going up...where does Jones land? on a team w/1 of your 4? ;) you don't know

so yes, make the move to get a WR2/TE(top-4 type) for one of the RB's, after we see how the dust is going to settle alittle

Thanks Guys. The RB's in question are LJ, FWP, Westbrook & Reggie Bush. I traded Edge and the 10 pick last year for the first pick and took Bush so I hate to trade him. I could probably get Holt for FWP or Westy. The thing that bothers me about waiting until the draft is that people tend to overvalue their own players right after the draft and may not be willing to trade. I may wait though and pick a veteran WR at # 5. I am keeping Houshmandzadeh and either Vick or Eli. The heck of it is I am going to have to release MBIII for nothing. My team was too RB heavy last year and Short on WR. I had the second highest scoring team in the league but kept getting beat by top scorers. Eked in to the playoff as point leader wild card but lost in first round. On a side note, last year was the first in this league where we did not snake the draft. I was surprised at what an advantage the people picking near the top every round have. I know it seems obvious but until you pick at the end of every round you don't realize the difference in the talent available.
