Keith Lewis SF safety (1 Viewer)

Keith Lewis, a safety for San Francisco has started the last 5 games and put up some good numbers. 25 tackles, 6 assists, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defensed.

I don't know anything about him other than he was a 7th round pick in 2004. Anyone know his story? Is he starting because of injury or poor performance?

He took over as a starter last month. Michael Adams now rotates in on nickel and dime packages only. Lewis has proven to be a better tackler than anybody else in the safety rotation and has looked very solid in coverage too.

I've been pimping this guy a lot. He looks like the real deal to me. He's arguably been the 49ers best defender over the past month or so.

His tackling was terrible this past weekend....but of course, nobody on the team could tackle. He is a big hitter, but against NO he was whiffing more than connecting.

A--Brandon Moore has been the best D player the last half of the year, followed by good ol' BY. Lewis has been a pleasent surprise for sure.

I don't really see him as a longterm solution, just more of a special teams guy filling in. S will be addressed this offseason, and I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 new starters back there.

Respectfully disagree, reminds me of Robert Griffith; started as a beast on specials but grew with the defense and got his chance. With a true center-fielder behind him he could be a solid SS in Nolan's D!

Moore was incredible when he first entered the starting lineup, but he's seemed to slow down a bit lately. Lewis seems to always be around the ball whenever I watch the 49ers play.

I guess they like him so much that they don't even need to get Tony Parrish around anymore. Parrish got waived...

Moore played in the middle up until two weeks ago, when he moved back outside into Ulbrich's old spot and Smith went back inside. He's still lining up as a down lineman in rushing situations...but thts why he seems to have "slowed down"--stupid Nolan put Smith back inside. Its odd--against DET, Smith filled Ulbrich's spot and Moore was inside and the D was excellent. Against the Rams and Saints, Smith was back inside and teams could run again. Bad move, IMO.

thanks for the info, I didn't know they were moving those guys around so much.

49ers | D. Smith OUT for Week 14

Mon, 4 Dec 2006 19:44:18 -0800

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers LB Derek M. Smith (hamstring) is out for the Week 14 game with a left hamstring strain. He has a chance to play Week 15.

so would this precipitate a move back inside for moore while smith is out ?

Just saw this on Rotoworld:

Jeff Ulbrich-LB-49ers Dec. 6 - 12:10 am et The 49ers are expected to stay in a 4-3 defensive alignment with Derek Smith (strained hamstring) sidelined indefinitely.Jeff Ulbrich, who lost his weak-side job near mid-season to Brandon Moore, is expected to step into Smith's spot at middle linebacker. Coach Mike Nolan will likely pursue players via the draft and free agency who better fit the 3-4 during the upcoming offseason. Adalius Thomas would present an interesting complement to Manny Lawson on the outside.Source: ESPN Insider
Hope it helps.

Move Moore inside and put Ulbrich back at his old spot!!!!

:hot:

Bump up Lewis (more tackles if Ulbrich is in the middle).

It's pretty sad that a no name like Keith Lewis is even considered to start over Ed Reed in a lineup, but that is what this year has been about. Sad, but this is where I'm leaning towards for my playoffs.

What has this FF world become? ;)

 actually Ed Redd has never been a great IDP, he had an outstanding 2004....that's all

Fantasy output doesn't always align with real NFL ability.

Lewis came out of U of Oregon. He is a great tackler normally. Since he got the start, he is putting up great numbers. Lots of tackles and a couple INT's in the past 4 weeks. Throw in some PD's and a FR and he is top 5 over that time!!! :lmao: :lmao:

Hmm...In 2004 he was the highest scoring safety in our league.

In 2003, he was the 4th highest scoring Safety in our league.

In 2002, he was the 6th highest scoring Safety in our league.

Be honest, I don't know where you're getting your information and will conceed that last year and this year have been far less than great. Other than that, he has been a TOP/Great IDP. Maybe your league doesn't have to start a or two Safeties and that could be part of it. As for the the leagues that do, he was money each and every week. Note - Used past tense with "was," hopefully his play will translate into FF again sometime soon again.
