Meh. I guess he's better than the two other candidates that Melvin interviewed.

Macha had success with some good A's teams. Some of the players were publicly glad when he was fired, but I wouldn't take that as too much of a black mark. It'll be interesting to see how he manages in the NL, because the conventional wisdom is that Oakland managers have less tactical freedom than most managers.

I wonder if Mike Maddux will stick around as pitching coach. He's been rumored to be heading to Texas, although that doesn't exactly seem like a dream job.
