Kendall to Skins (1 Viewer)

Per PFT:

KENDALL SENT TO 'SKINS

A league source tells us that the Jets have sent guard Pete Kendall to the Washington Redskins. It is believed that Washington sent a fourth-round pick to the Jets in exchange.

Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reported on Thursday that a deal to an unnamed team was close. Our source says that a deal to D.C. is done.

Cimini also reports that Kendall will get, in his new NFL city, the $1 million raise that he craved for the coming year, pushing his salary from $1.7 million to $2.7 million.

It had become increasingly clear that a divorce was needed. Cimini devoted a recent item to Kendall's history of using painkillers to allow himself to play. Though Kendall stopped short of saying that he wouldn't continue to use medications in order to be able to suit up and perform, a source with knowledge of the situation made it clear to us that Kendall would not be using any pain medication if the team didn't adjust his contract.

The root of the problem, as we understand it, is that when Kendall restructured his deal in 2006 at the team's request, the team verbally promised to re-adjust the deal if he performed well. Kendall's perspective was that he fulfilled his end of it, and then the Jets reneged on a commitment that necessarily was unenforceable.

Kendal and the team traded barbs in training camp, with Kendall being relegated to the second team and assigned initially to the rookie dorm. Kendall loudly complained, piping down only when it seemed that the organization was getting ready to suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team.

Last week, the Jets had him play center in a preseason game, a position that he strongly dislikes. There were suspicions that two bad snaps in the game were influenced, consciously or otherwise, by Kendall's unhappiness.

Bump up Portis/Betts?

Pete was cut by Arizona because he was a Me-First malcontent loud mouth BUT, a good player....

He did well with the Jets untill it came $$$ time... The Skins shouldn't have to worry about that since this will probably be his last contract....

Good deal for the Skins OL..... He'll be motivated and is solid but, he's a total ##### !!!!!!

LOL at Skins always accepting Jets trade offers. I wonder if the Jets even call other teams or just have Snyder on speed dial

good point about contractIs he gonna play next to Samuels? That'd be a great duo to run behind

I was thinking the same thing. Funny how some teams just seem to trade more with specific teams. IMO, that's usually a sign of a lazy GM that prefers to just deal with guys he knows rather than talk to everyone to get the best deal possible.

Upgrade for the Skins, but doesn't it worry anyone that it's August and the need for painkillers to play is already an issue?

It's not an issue...He just said he did it in the past and would question doing it again IF NEEDED for the Jets since he felt like he was being hosed.....

It was speculated earlier in the week on Jets boards that the Skins OL was a good fit for Pete....Miami wanted him and the Jets wanted him out of the division...The other 'deals' were more the Skins coming after Free agents that happened to be Jets...

This had been discussed in 'Skins circles for the last couple of weeks, and particularly when Wade got injured and they started having to use Pucillo at LG. 'Skins fans were hoping that he'd get cut, but obviously they decided that they couldn't wait any longer and they were probably right.

The guy to watch now with the LG position filled is Jansen, who is showing his mileage. There are a lot who thought Wade was a better RT last year, so it will be interesting to see if he threatens Jansen's hold at RT. Jansen is a coaching staff favorite though.

I'm confused. Did Pete Kendall learn how to treat tendinitis in the offseason? :goodposting:
He learned how to flip a newly signed contract into a Payoff and hold a team hostage while stealing over 5 million....The guy is a first class ### ### # ###### ####!!!!!!!But, a decent guard.

It can't be a 4th round pick in 2008, as the Skins trading that in the Duckett trade. I'm hearing its a conditional pick, most likely a 5th.

So the Skins are beginning their annual cull of draft picks early this year?

As for Kendall he's a total non team player.

Seattle were glad to get rid of him

Arizona cut him after he told on the team for practising too hard or something

Does the same to the Jets and now they are happy to see the back of him

Let's see how long before he burns bridges in Washington.

Perfect fit for both teams. The Redskins line has been a bit donut for years, and Kendall will finally provide something valuable in the middle. Washington now has former Jets at both guard positions. The Jets desperately needed to get rid of Kendall ASAP, and unfortunately, I think they still waited too long. But they did get him out of the conference, which is always a plus.

Should be fun in week 9 when Kendall and the Redskins come into town.

Considering the Jets had a terrific running game with those guards, the skins should be all set. Oh wait I'm sorry the Jets didn't acomplish much with those two guys now did they. The article above states that Kendall might have had bad snaps on purpose because he didn't like playing center? Yeah that's a guy I want on my team. Pre-season or not you have go to be kidding me.Good riddance.

The Jets had arguably the top running game in the league in 2004, and Kendall deserves a bunch of the credit for that. The article speculates that Kendall might have had bad snaps on purpose. That's no different than speculating that Peyton Manning might have punched Marvin Harrison in the face. Kendall's a terrible center that any Jets fan would remember was absolutely miserable at snapping the ball two years ago in the regular season. And if you don't think Randy Thomas is one of the best guards in the NFL today, I'd love to hear you name 5 RGs better than him.

You mean the ultra-talented trio of Barlow, Washington and Houston? The only team that was as bad talent wise might have been the Texans.

:goodposting: Yeah I'm a homer, but I think he has been the best lineman on the team since 2004, last year's injury-marred season aside. He's very underappreciated IMHO, even among most 'Skins fans.

LOL at you thinking Portis has a real problem.
Funny, I was having the same reaction about the people who are thinking he doesn't.
I wouldn't be too concerned about tendinitis......People are putting up top 10 seasons the year after ACL surgery. Portis DOES NOT want to play in the pre-season and get injured for no reason. I don't blame him. He is going to make a lot of people look good this year and a lot of others look bad (we will see which group of people it is).

Did Curtis lead the NFL in rushing?

maybe you forgot about the "real" Portis injury last preseason and his subsequent month-long whine about the need for these exhibition games. that's okay, there are a lot of players in the league and you're entitled to forget about a few. but I knew a year ago to not expect any preseason participation from Portis from that point on. He'll be lining up in the backfield at 1:03 pm on 9/9/07 - and will continue to do so all year long.

Kendall was 31 when Martin won the rushing title, and most of that was done with Kendall pulling and Martin running outside. Kendall is now 34 and he is not the same player. He is an average LG at this point. He never was a good power run blocker as a Jet. Still, he is better than what the Skins or Jets have otherwise, although this rookie Bender looks like a better run blocker than Kendall is, Bender did almost no pass blocking at LT in college playing at Nicholls St which ran a triple option. Kendall will be adequate, and will improve the pass protection on Campbell's blind side for sure.

Kendall had to go, and NOT to Miami... if Bender wins the job, the Jets running game will improve immediately, but Pennington's next injury may happen sooner rather than later now.

I think on the whole, the FA acquisitions under Joe Gibbs have been much improved.
Definitely. This team's problem after 2004 has not been its overall talent level. It's primarily been injuries and the unsettled/transitioning QB position.

Well Kendall and Thomas have never played on the same team, Thomas left before Kendall came. Never mind that, when they were with the Jets they did not have a stable of running backs as talented as Washington has.
