I think he is vastly underrated. People look too much at YPC and fail to see he is a perfect fit in their offense. He is rock solid and durable, and scores plenty of TDs. As far as I'm concerned, his full time replacement is not on the roster. He caught a pass yesterday and looked really good doing it. I really wonder why he hasn't been used much in the passing game.i see no reason to include an eyeroll - this is just a friendly discussion.sure, injuries play a role. tough run schedule? i guess, but great rb's still produce against tough defenses, especially when helped out by a team stacked with supporting talent (palmer, CJ, housh, henry). rudi isn't special. i don't understand why rudi owners can't just admit it. he's a tough guy, he runs hard, and gains 3-4 yards on most plays. but he isn't a homerun threat and doesn't catch the ball particularly well. good starter, but someday - seemingly out of the blue - he strikes me as a guy who could get replaced. sorry if that bothers you.Guess you didn't notice the injuries and constant shuffling of the Cinci OL last year...that would have nothing to do with it; would it??Or possibly that Rudi had one of the league's toughest run scheds??Anybody who thought Irons would take Rudi's job in '07 was smokin' something. But Rudi isn't special - just see his 3.8 average ypc last year - so it wasn't crazy talk to think Rudi would lose some carries in '08, and lose his job by '09. Thus for dynasty owners, Irons would be an attractive rookie if healthy.North said:I think Rudi has always been considered "safe" by people who are in the know. I meant "safe" as in he won't lose his job.I think you are over estimating his potential this year a bit (1400, 16). Yardage MAYBE, but he has never posted 16td's.He is definately a safe pick considering since he has been the starter (3 years) he has averaged 1407yds and 12 td's per year. I don't think he is one to post 16 to 20 td's but he'll definately get you 1400 yds and 10-12tds, which is pretty good.thats some good thinking. I got rudi in the second round of a dynasty draft this year. He is going to put up RB1 numbers(top 7-10, IMO). People pencil this 28 year old workhorse as a "safe" play. I really think he gets 16TDs and over 1400 yards....to me that is not "safe"Guess you didn't notice the injuries and constant shuffling of the Cinci OL last year...that would have nothing to do with it; would it??Or possibly that Rudi had one of the league's toughest run scheds??Anybody who thought Irons would take Rudi's job in '07 was smokin' something. He is supposed to have an MRI today from what I read. I'm sure someone will post as soon as they know. Stay tuned. Is there any updated info on Irons? I thought that's what this thread was about.![]()
Evidently despite your optimism, the coaching staff is less convinced of his receiving abilities.I think he is vastly underrated. That sucks big time. Guess Rudi has nothing to worry about now.

See my post.....http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6185Does anyone actually have a link to the extent of his injury/injuries or are we all just speculating at this point? I mean c'mon...let's not give him the Meachem tag just yet.

No reason to struggle with it, let him sink. This is TERRIBLE news for the kid. Guess this is how Brian Calhoun kinda feels.Horrible. Just hate to see this before he even got a chance to get his feet wet. I'm struggling with how far to bump him down in the rookie rankings.
playing the same team too.. i was walking around the lion sidelines when it happened to carter...wow, talk about bad jujuBengals.com Irons is OUT FOR THE YEAR, torn ACL, just like KiJana Carter. Amazing.

He probably needs to be bumped a little further down than Stanton,as Stanton was probably going to hold the clipboard all year anyway, while Irons was in line for a decent amount of playing time. Not to mention the severity of the injury, and the importance of such an injury on the cutting ability of a RB.Horrible. Just hate to see this before he even got a chance to get his feet wet. I'm struggling with how far to bump him down in the rookie rankings.
I'd say best case scenario = after 6 weeks into the season. I had extremely high hopes for Perry. One of the most versatile backs I've seen in such limited time. Now I wonder if he'll be able to be the same after what he's gone through. His skill sets were a better fit for the Bengal's offense than Irons' imo. I'd love to see him back healthy. [/endhijack]When's Perry supposed to be back?![]()
was really excited about him this year.terrible.

I think he had the best hands on the team.. including the WRs. He made the Bengals a lot more dangerous. Hopefully he can come back and stay healthy.Everybody is a guy who will get replaced... eventually. Not sure why there is a tendency to knock Rudi. He has been extremely reliable and consistent. I'm sure his worth to the Bengals goes well beyond his fantasy worth. A durable, consistent guy who can take the ball 20+ times a game. What is not to like?i see no reason to include an eyeroll - this is just a friendly discussion.sure, injuries play a role. tough run schedule? i guess, but great rb's still produce against tough defenses, especially when helped out by a team stacked with supporting talent (palmer, CJ, housh, henry). rudi isn't special. i don't understand why rudi owners can't just admit it. he's a tough guy, he runs hard, and gains 3-4 yards on most plays. but he isn't a homerun threat and doesn't catch the ball particularly well. good starter, but someday - seemingly out of the blue - he strikes me as a guy who could get replaced. sorry if that bothers you.Guess you didn't notice the injuries and constant shuffling of the Cinci OL last year...that would have nothing to do with it; would it??Or possibly that Rudi had one of the league's toughest run scheds??Anybody who thought Irons would take Rudi's job in '07 was smokin' something. I agree. He's a perfect guy to ask for as a throw-in right now.On the plus side, he's still an interesting buy low proposition. All of his owners will be down on him now.
I had him ranked similarly (which is really low Anthony), but I'm not keeping him anywhere near there. I've dropped him out of the top 50 rookies (IDPs included). I don't think he ever had the talent to overcome something like this. I know his fans might be miffed and this is a bad time to pile on, but he needed to establish himself quickly, imo. There's way too many quality backs coming into the league in the next year or so. I think his game is rather mediocre overall and some of his weaknesses (hands primarily) needed to be overcome in short order for me to expect anything from him. I could easily see him go the way of Calhoun in Detroit. I'd even be leery of Cincy picking up a nice talent from somewhere before this season starts.I had him 24th in my rookie rankings, which is lower than some. I am not as high on him as others, even before the injury. But I'm definitely with the buy low thinking. I am patient with rookies anyways, and this doesn't change his long term outlook. He wasn't going to start in the next 2 years or so anyways. He will be a little cheaper now, and during the season might be the best time to buy low. I will likely keep him ranked close to the 24 where I have him right now.
Well put. That's where I was going, and I'm not going to make a list, but I think that 12 is conservative. There is a slight glut of similar talent in the NFL right now, and it will be a major glut in two years. That means that by the time Irons is really recovered--two years from now most likely--12 more talented RB's will have entered the NFL. If you're the Bengals GM and you're trying to build for the future and maintain depth for a playoff team, are you really going to make a big bet on Irons?I'm not saying his NFL career is over, but you have to consider this very very bad news. Poor guy :(
Excellent point. I didn't even think of it from that perspective. Next years class is supposed to be loaded with quality RBs.Well put. I got a blurb in the email a few minutes ago.... haven't looked at the blogger. Here is a link regarding the Iron's injury:

Don't know why I haven't received a breaking news e-mail from Footballguys
Don't know why it hasn't been posted on the News Page
as of 1:57 p.m. CST

The only reason I mention it is that I got a phone call from a buddy of mine at 1:35p.m. CST leaving me a voice mail about the Kenny Irons article. I checked my e-mail and looked for it on Footballguys because I thought he was pulling my leg and I couldn't find anything on it.
No and NoWhat is the outlook for Kenny Watson at this point? Does he play a significant role? If Rudi goes down, does he become an every down back?
