(RotoWire) Phillips (knee) has been placed on IR by the Giants, the Daily News reports.

Analysis: C.C. Brown (who will likely fill in for Phillips) and Michael Johnson, the Giants' healthy safeties, will be joined by Aaron Rouse, who was claimed on waivers from Green Bay Thursday.

:)

Big blow for the Giants..and some fantasy owners

Just out of curiosity, who are some of you picking up in his place?
I took Elam for him last week (before Phillips last - and very productive game). The whole reason I made that move last week was because word out of NY was that he was hurt last week. I jumped the gun a week early and lost a week's production...but Elam should post decent tackle stats so long as he holds down his position.

Update from a couple days ago:

Sounds good to me.

(KFFL) Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports New York Giants FS Kenny Phillips (knee) is still at least a month away from attempting to run; however, Phillips said his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury is going smoothly. Phillips has targeted the OTA practices in May for his return. "I feel real good, everything feels strong, so I should be all-in by OTAs," Phillips said in an interview on the team's Web site.

So does Aaron Rouse have any chance at keeping his FS spot for the Giants? He was a pleasant surprise at the end of the year last year.

He may, depending on what they do with Phillips, I think if he is healthy Phillips is a starter and then whoever wins the other position. It seems to me the Giants use both safeties similarly, so even though one is designated SS and one FS, I think they both have a chance for tackles and big plays.

With all the money they paid for Rolle...if Kenny comes back Rouse drops back to a backup I would think.

I don't care how rosy a picture they're painting for his rehab, if he isn't even able to run yet I can't imagine him being a fantasy differencemaker for the upcoming season.

Anyone have an idea about the Deon Grant signing? Is this a strong signal Phillips won't be ready? Or is this more a depth move? Thoughts?

FRom what I have heard this is more of a safety valve and depth and that Phillips is coming along nicely. Not like Grant is some kind of superstar and would he even be better than Micheal Johnson.

Can we start a new thread (or rename this thread) called "Kenny Phillips - 2010 Offseason Recovery" or something?

Every time I come into the IDP forum and see Kenny Phillips out for season, my stomach sinks for a split-second.

And yes, I realize that I'm perpetuating the issue by responding to this thread myself...ha!

last i heard (a couple of weeks ago) phillips was saying if he had to play today he could. i guess he was cleared to run in straight lines a month ago and is ahead of schedule with the rehabbing thus far. pretty good news imo.

as far as the gmen drafting chad jones, i wouldn't be too concerned as a phillips owner. phillips is first round talent and will play if he can. imo they're just adding depth, which they didn't have when phillips went out last season. more of a precaution than a need.

ETA - we could just change the title of the thread.

I think it was one of the coaches or the GM that hinted that Chad Jones may play at nickel LB this year, because he can cover better than a LB and hits like one too.
