Kerry Collins @ CINCY (1 Viewer)

What do people think of his prospects this week in Cincy and beyond while Vince is out? (Not sure what the latest is in his drama). IIRC correctly he looked good in preseason and the team's offense seemed to click a lot better when he was out. Week 1 he had 2-2 for 65.

actually his preseason stats were horrid, but I'm not sure if that was him or the receivers. Anyone have any thoughts on this at all?

I think KC could be a good spot start this week if you had Brady and your backup stinks. If you have a good starter and weak backup, though, I might stash him for later if it goes well.

I think the player that becomes viable because of this is Justin Gage. I think he becomes a nice WR3, especially for those that lost Burleson, etc. I think he has a pretty good run with KC -- I'd say his avg will be about 5 catches and .7 TDs while KC is QB.

For dynasty...consider Lavelle Hawkins if you have deep room. I firmly believe that within a couple of years he'll be the best WR on the Titans.

THIS WEEK, I bet Lendale gets a lot of 2nd half carries.

Titans first WR set is not great. The 2nd set he was throwing to were horrid. He'll have Gage, Jones, McCareins, Scaife, Crumpler, and CJ. Don't forget CJ in the passing game that Collins will get that, too.

Did some research on Collins this week, as I am a Brady owner.

Collins has thrown 174 passes as a Titan over the last 2+ seasons. He's thrown ONE TD pass. That's a pretty respectable sample size. He had one good game yardage wise, going 25/42 for 280 vs HOU last year. Also seemed to be better in 2007 than 2006. (maybe knowing the system better)

IMO he may be an okay WW pickup, but I wouldn't start him.

But don't they have a new OC and offense this year? Not sure what he did in 2006 and 2007 are particularly relevant. But let's look at those games:

Collins started weeks 1-3 in 2006. In week 1, Young had 4 passing attempts and 0 rushing attempts. In week 2, Young had 20 passing attempts and 5 rushing attempts. In week 3, Young had 29 passing attempts and 5 rushing attempts. So I don't think it's particularly fair to judge Collins on those games. He was in a new system and sharing time. Although he definitely played poorly, there is no doubt about that.Collins had a QB rating of 79.9 in his 82 attempts in 2007. No TDs, but also no interceptions, and again, Young had at least 14 passing attempts and 3 rushing attempts in every game in which Collins played but one - week 7. In that game, Collins was 25/42 for 280 yards, 0 TDs, and 0 interceptions, and TEN had 2 rushing TDs from inside the 5. He also led them to a come from behind win in that game in the final seconds.Plus, without looking, I'm guessing their targets were even worse when he played in those seasons, since Chris Johnson and Crumpler were not on the team. And, finally, allow me to point out that in his last season as a full-time starter, he finished as QB9 in Oakland (in 2005).

My starters are Schaub and Garrard in one league and I get penalized 2 pts per sack for QBs. Dumbest scoring ever invented but there it is. Garrard got me all of one point due to taking so many sacks with his line tore to pieces, Schaub is facing Baltimore. Thinking of dropping Garrard simply because of the -2 pts per sack. With three starters out on his line he should be running for his life.

I am rolling with Collins this week. I think he may have a calming effect on the entire team. Funny thing about him is that he actually quit on Carolina way back in the day. I'll never forget him walking out of jail with the cigar and all that. But he's got to be 34 years old or so by now and he's a grizzled vet.

I can't see starting him outside of a deep 2QB league or another extreme situation.

starting him over Ryan this week. I think he goes for 200/1 easy. Thats not great, but thats the junk I'm working with! Missed out on Cassell, but being a jets fan and going to the game today, I'm kinda glad I did anyways...

Aren't there big winds expected? I've seen reports of 20-25mph with 45mph gusts.. I can't imagine there will be much passing then.

Cincy fan... The run D is awful, expect minimal passing.
Very simplistic view of the situation. While there will be a steady dose of running, which is par for the Titans course regardless of who is qbing, a terrible run D can work to the passing game's advantage. Not like the pass D in cincy is great either. I see a pretty strong offensive showing by the Titans, which means there will be something there for Kerry. I don't expect 350 yards and 3 tds, but I think 200 and a touch is there...Also, with VY's future up in the air, I think Collins is a decent qb if he starts the rest of the year, regardless of the WRs. Their wrs are servicable, they are considered terrible because they played with VY, which will make anyone and everyone look terrible...

Don't bother analyzing his stats for the 2006 season. Collins was signed 1 week before the season began that year and was thrown into the fire for the first 4 weeks. Nobody succeeds under those circumstances. Otherwise he is an established vet who should manage the game well for the Titans. Not sure what to expect stat wise, but I wouldn't expect a great deal of them.

And finally, has anyone noticed Kerry Collins resemblance to the character Reese Bobby from Talladega Nights?

Gary Cole (Reese Bobby)

Kerry Collins (TN QB)

Simple but true. The corners/secondary are the bright side of the defense. There isnt a WR that scares me there at all. He may get a lucky touch, but no way does he see 200 in the air.

Cincy stunk last week. I don't think they're that bad. They should at least be able to have a passing offense. However, if you think they'll continue to play that poorly, I don't see why Collins would have to pass much this week. They didn't stop the run. Fisher would love to run as much as possible and win with his D....that Bengals team that played poorly is the perfect matchup for the Titans. Marvin better rally his troops

I'm in the same boat with you, except for neg sack points. Can't start Schaub now b/c of the bye. But I can't pull the trigger on starting Collins...so Garrard it is.

Titan homer here.

Do NOT start KFC today vs Cincy. I think he'll do great as starting QB this year...but today, IMO, is not the day.

Weather is getting worse and worse. Rain will be there at some time and it is very, very windy with gusts in the 40s.

Cincy's run D is horrible and Titans are great running team. I expect 200+ running with maybe 150 or so passing. Who knows, could be different, but this is what I expect.

Collins has had an odd tenure in TEN. As someone else alluded to, signed just before the season in 2006. in 2007, Norm Chow's fancy offense was stripped down so much for young Vince Young that it was pretty poor. When Collins did play in 07, it looked like a different O to me. I think Chow was really out of place and consequently both QBs were not in the best position to succeed.

Pretty much what I expected. Indeed, Gage becomes viable as a WR3.
