Kerry Rhodes had 10 solo tackles. (1 Viewer)

I am thinking of picking up Kerry Rhodes and starting him in place of Will Demps. Rhodes had 10 solo tackles yesterday, which is unreal. Does anybody think he will continue with this success?I took a flyer on Will Demps and he didn't live up to expectations. People were drooling over this guy because he is the SS in the "46" defense and is suppose to rack up a crap load of tackles. Last night, I saw Ray Lewis get most of the tackles. Will Demps (no pun intended) continue to be mediocre or will the SS position benefit him this season?

I don't think this outing shows what Rhodes will do all year. If the Jets offense does this poorly all year long then Rhodes could have nice numbers all year as well. He will also experience some rookie moments that could hurt him as well. If I recall correctly the SS and FS in the Jets system are interchangeable.I would likely take Rhodes over Demps though.Edit - Demps getting 4 solo and an asst isn't that bad of a game to be honest. The 10 solo by Rhodes makes Demps look bad.

But will Demps get the tackles many people were talking about because he is the SS in the 46 defense? I think Lewis will steal many tackles from Demps. Watching the game last night, it seemed like Lewis was all over the RB on run plays and Demps wasn't anywhere to be seen.

How many tackles do you want the DB to have? If you expect them to get 10 solos ever single week then I want some of what you are smoking.

I wouldn't throw Demps out with the bath water as much as I would raise my expectations for Rhodes. You notice as the season goes on that certain offenses, like the Chiefs, are able to block beyond the first level and are able to put blocks on LBs as well. I don't think any team does that as well as the Chiefs though. In any case, it sets up the FS and SS for a lot of work each week.

Many people were hyping up Demps to be top 5 DB this season and get most of his points from tackles. I would expect at least 5 or 6 solo tackles and 3 or 4 assists from him.

You realize this is only week 1 don't you? If you were to look at most of the top 5 at any position you will have down weeks. I don't think he will be a top 5 DB but I don't think that Rhodes will be either. IMHO putting Demps into the top 20 is moving him up pretty high.

What do you guys think about Rhodes vs. Erik Coleman. Rhodes out produced Coleman from a tackle perspective, is this a situation where IDP is different that offense and you have to act fast and go with the hot new guy.

Rhodes played pretty well. Of his 10 tackles, 6 were on the RB's. That is not likely to continue, unless the Jets front seven falls apart again, which is not likely. I think he has a higher potential for big plays than Coleman does though. Rhodes also plays ST's which helps his numbers.

KC was mentioned as a team that blocks well, leading to extra points for opposing SSs. What other teams are that successful at blocking the LBs?I tried to find opposing points allowed compared to the average for SSs for last season, but was unable to find it. Here's what I found for DBs, though... the top teams provide more points to opposing DBs.Green BayDallasSeattleArizonaSt. LouisNew OrleansCincinnatiMiamiHoustonClevelandKansas CitySan FranciscoTennesseeTampa BayDenverPittsburghMinnesotaCarolinaChicagoNY GiantsWashingtonNew EnglandBuffaloJacksonvilleBaltimoreDetroitOaklandSan DiegoIndianapolisNY JetsPhiladelphiaAtlanta
