kevin smith injured (8/25) (1 Viewer)

This guy is made out of paper. Mikel LeShoure will take over the starting job by week 2...
I will bet you as much money as you're willing to risk that LeShoure doesn't start Week 2. PM me if you're serious.
:o As much as I'm willing to risk? Do you bluff like this all the time with strangers?
Considering LeShoure will be suspended and not able to play until week 3, I think it's a pretty safe bet to say he won't be starting in week 2.
wait, what?

We're good... for now.

The Detroit News confirms that Kevin Smith's Saturday night ankle injury was not severe.

The paper is characterizing it as a "twisted" ankle, and suggests Smith won't even miss any practice time. "I just got scared being under that pile of big guys," Smith said. "I was scared it was another high ankle sprain and I know how long it took me to get back healthy from that. It's not a high ankle sprain, so that's a positive." Although his durability remains an ongoing concern, Smith can be drafted in fantasy leagues just as he was pre-ankle scare.

What is going on, the guy was out of football, now everyone wants to put him in the top 25 among rbs, on a team that can't run to save their lives. Have fun wasting a decent draft pick and roster spot on him

Yeah, he was AWFUL when he was in there last season.

Ya he had over a year off from football and then had a good game against a horrible Carolina defense and the started to.have a decent game against a bad Green Bay defense, and despite all that rest he still got hurt. That is the guy I want for my rb2,and wasting a valuable mid round pick on.

Trying to figure out why you're still posting. We get it. You hate him.

Anyone who has rolled their ankle knows it is fairly debilitating right away, then it eases off--even the minor ones hurt like heck right off the bat. Then, after a few minutes you are pretty much back to normal. From the reports, it sounds minor to me. Classic overreaction. See thread on Stafford, Matthew.
Not so much an overreaction as much as it is a reminder that this it the kind of guy that has a big medical history so when you draft him you have to be willing to hold your breath on every play. The last 4 times I have seen him play a game, he's come off the field hobbled. Just the way it is.

Probably want to pin this thread, since it will likely come up again. Love Smith's talent, but he just can't seem to stay healthy.

So you are telling me that you won your league because of these games:Week 14 - He didn't playWeek 15 - 43 rush yards 1 catch for 3 yardsWeek 16 - 49 rush yards 2 catches for 12 yards but he did have 2 tdsWeek 17 (if you played this week) - 35 rush yards 4 catches for 26 yards and 1 touchdown.I call your bull####

He's probably telling you those 21 pts helped him win the Super Bowl. Sounds reasonable to me.

I just don't see how you can use a high pick on a guy who can not stay on the field.... he is the epitome of injury plagued.

He was very talented as a rookie. I loved his skill. He has the hips and the moves to make it happen, and I saw he had great potential. I got burned on him due to injury.

Maybe his time out of the game helped him some.....

He just is not reliable for a high pick. Late round options for sleeper value? Sure, np.

My draft was Sat night....12 Team PPR with 3 player Keeper

Kevin Smith went 4.02 (equivilent of 8.02). Very reasonable IMO.

He was RB4 for that team.

But I felt good when I picked up LeShoure 4 rounds later.... my RB5

The people that remark about last year also have to remember that even though he came in off the street and played, that doesn't necessarily mean he was "in football shape" at that point either. I figure the risk for him getting injured last year was probably higher than usual considering he didn't have half a year to get used to the hits/contact.

With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make it through Week 7-8 this season either but I give him a bit of a pass for last year injury wise.

In all seriousness, if he gets through this week of practice and is healthy for the game, he could be one of the weeks highest scorers at runner. STL blows something awful on defense, and I do not see them being able to cover all angles Detroit will throw at them. Detroit should be ahead and try to run it out with Smith possibly plus he can catch out of the backfield, those are my thoughts.

sounds good to me. hope you're right

Someone will bump this topic Sunday morning around 11:00 and their opponent will bench Kevin Smith.

I just can't believe how low all the expert websites out there have him ranked so low for week 1?
Yahoo has him projected as the 6th highest scoring RB for week 1. He's only behind Foster, McCoy, Rice, McFadden, and Forte.
I just looked and he's 10th. Where are you looking?http://sports.yahoo.com/news/statistical-look-fantasy-football-rb-rankings-week-1-181200104.html;_ylt=A2KJjalU3EZQSBkAFiRNbK5_

Debating between Smith and Mike Wallace as my flex player. Figure if Smith plays he is a shoo-in for more points, but there is the chance he gets banged up in the first series again...

choices, choices...

This is what happens when you carry the rock 450 times in your junior year of college, he was run straight into the ground, I really feel for the dude. That being said, for as long as he's healthy I don't see how he can't be treated as at least a flex. In this specific match-up, there's no way he's not a high-end RB2 in PPR leagues. Also, although I feel like I might be wasting roster space for a sub-par ground attack, in my one league I made sure to back up K.Smith with Leshoure. Worst case scenario this becomes a full blown timeshare by mid year.

I think I am playing him over MJD, R. Jennings, or Hillis. Just feels right with that matchup against the Rams.

I was shocked how high FBG had him ranked.
Top 15?
Why would you be shocked? Look at his numbers when healthy last season. Also, he is a talented guy playing in a high powered offense. He could be a top 10 rb this week given his matchup and lack of competition for touches.
