Key to a good offense (1 Viewer)

I was listening to fox sports radio the other day and they mentioned something **** Vermeil said about having a good offense.

Basically said all you need is a good left tackle, a good running back, and good qb play, in that order, and you will have a good offense.

I cant really think of a situation where these three exist and the offense sputters.

I think his KC team was a great example of this. The receivers were horrible, but they still put up tons of points.

Genius.A stud left tackle, running back and quarterback = elite offense.Wow.
and he didnt say stud in all three. The conversation was about how the giants took a nose dive when their left tackle went down. He ranked them in that order.

Hard to argue with that. Great WR's are nice to have, but are not really necessary to have a really good offense.

And a great WR doesn't automatically make an offense great, either. See the 2006 Carolina Panthers for more details.

Yeah, it's just that the blind-side tackle is usually the left one, so that's what guys say. If your QB is one of the few lefties (i.e. Leinart), then the right tackle becomes the key guy.

Personally, I would still place QB #1 on my priority list, then blind-side tackle 2nd. After that it gets kinda hazy, as the majority of RBs and WRs are rather interchangeable. It seems you need at least one player at one of those positions to be great.

Interesting comment and thread, though! =)

To me it's always about the guys up front first and foremost. A good line can cover a multitude of sins, a bad one can get your high priced talent sent to the hospital.

An example of the blindside tackle theory is Matt Light with the Pats. He's a good but not great LT and quite often how he plays trickles down to the whole offense. A guy he has a ton of trouble with is Jason Taylor and I don't think it's a fluke that some of Brady's worse games are against the Dolphins.
