The Panthers have reportedly released WR Keyshawn Johnson.

"They said they wanted to get younger," Johnson told the St. Petersburg Times. "That's fine with me. I'd like to go somewhere and help someone win another Super Bowl." The Panthers' decision to draft Dwayne Jarrett was apparently not so he could study under Johnson, then contribute in the future. Jarrett and Drew Carter are now likely to compete to start.

Panther Release WR Key. Johnson

St. Petersburg Times

WR Keyshawn Johnson was released by the Carolina Panthers Tuesday. "They said they wanted to get younger," Johnson said. ""That's fine with me. I'd like to go somewhere and help someone win another Super Bowl." Johnson, who spent the weekend working for ESPN in New York during the NFL draft, will undoubtedly receive offers in broadcasting. However, he has stated that his first choice is to play another season or two. The move was somewhat surprising since the Panthers paid Johnson a $3-million roster bonus April 1.

I am also looking for additional confirmation

Ironic given all the Panther team talk Keyshawn was giving during his draft commentary on ESPN.

 Drew Carter owner
I was thinking Jarrett myself.

Key: Jarrett's not ready for the NFL.

Carolina: He's ready enough to take YOUR job. Have a nice season somewhere else, guy.

Yeah, I was thinking Jarrett too. But I was hoping Keyshawn would be there to mentor him for a year.

I didn't like Jarret the first time, when he was called Mike Williams. I sure as hell don't like him the 2nd time.

One of two things is going on here:

1. There's some tension, behavior problem, or some other disruption we don't know about yet

2. The Panthers are running their organization like complete idiots. How do you pay someone a $3M bonus and then cut them a month later? This doesn't add up.

 Wonder if he said something during the draft coverage they didnt like??

lets hope notThey just released Mccardell, why bring in Key?
Because unlike McCardell, Key can actually still play football.
Completely agree. I hope you're right, Key would be a good fit in SD imo and would start across from Jackson.
Agree totally. Make Parker the 3rd/4th wr and give Davis a little time to learn the offense. He's a good blocker too which fits right in with SD's running game.

Is he fast enough to get out to San Diego by the time the season starts?

What a strange move. I can't think of too many teams that SHOULDN'T have interest in a guy that caught 70 passes last year.

I wonder if he's too much of a headcase to be a Viking.

Until Delhomme is replaced with Carr. Then Smith will go nuts after repeated 5 yard dumpoff where the defense lays him out.

He almost signed with the giants last year before settling on Carolina.....G-Men could still use him.....

I would say the first option.

 I'd say by the weekend...
I can think of several teams that could make a play for Key:SD

KC

Jack

Tenn

Minn

Wash
I can see him playing for almost 2/3 of the league:AFC

Baltimore Ravens

Buffalo Bills

Cincinnati Bengals

Cleveland Browns

Denver Broncos

Houston Texans

Kansas City Chiefs

Miami Dolphins

San Diego Chargers

Tennessee Titans

NFC

Atlanta Falcons

Chicago Bears

Green Bay Packers

Minnesota Vikings

New Orleans Saints

New York Giants

Philadelphia Eagles

San Francisco 49ers

Seattle Seahawks

St. Louis Rams

Washington Redskins

Best fits in bold.

Speaking of Jarrett...at least one SC football player doesn't think much of Jarrett as a player.

This is from an SC football blog by SC's Daily News beat writer, Scott Wolf:

http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/

Add Jarrett

This from someone who played with Dwayne Jarrett.

``He had a second-round attitude, a second-round everything except production. He was a system receiver and the NFL didn't buy it. Maybe if he ran 4.5 it would be different.''

Well there is always the graveyard of WRs: Atlanta. That would put the nail in the coffin on his lofty career...

give a dude 3 mill roster bonous, and cut him 3 weeks later? there must be something we're not hearing about. no one could be that stupid.

I don't see why Philly wouldn't be a good fit either... he is looking for a team with a chance to win a super bowl.

San Diego also sounds like a good fit.
