In short, family's pit bulls maul this little girl

Grandmother says they go to KFC to get mashed potatoes because girl can't eat and KFC worked allegedly (now false) asks them to leave because the girls face is scaring customers

KFC donates $30,000

gofundme jumps from $600 to $135,000

Plastic Surgeon commits free time to do surgeries

Should people be upset they donated? Want their money back?

Should the franchise owner of the KFC sue the grandmother? What happens if their business suffers and even go out of business?

Intriguing since its all about a 3 yr old who desperately needs surgery (because of her own family's faults) but money raised was done in a way that will hurt the KFC image and especially franchise.

Of course people should be upset they donated. At the end of the day, the girl is getting helped out which is what really matters, but getting people to donate under false pretense is not cool.

The Grandparents should be shot, not murdered, but a good low caliber bullet to the calf or something. The pitbulls were theirs to begin with, and this is all their fault.

I hope this little girl receives tons of donations (and they all go to her and her alone!!!!) Poor girls face is completely ####ed up.

I've been following this story.

Heard about this, but hadn't heard it was a confirmed hoax. The little girl's injujries are real, I assume?

I love how people, also, makes the leap between "one KFC employee exercising volition" and "the entirety of Yum! Brands, Inc.". I know, I know ... huge entities are typically legally responsible for what their underlings go off and do on their own. But still ... it rankles.

...

Does the plastic surgeon here even have the real option of withdrawing his offer? Seems that would go viral itself.

I knew this was BS when I heard it. What monster would ask an injured girl to leave a restaurant?

If you fell for it just accept it and move on

It isn't the little girls fault that she was born into a family of lying, worthless, low-lifes... No reason to not help her, she is the real victim here.

I'd love to get these grandparents away from this poor girl.

It's occured to me, also, that the grandparents can have the book thrown at them -- whatever charges can arise from the dog attack, with whatever fraud charges can be brought to bear -- while the little girl still gets the money and health care. The grandparents having to serve real jail time will give the next shisters pause (hopefully).

The bad thing is that if enough of this goes on, people will become rightly skeptical of such viral cases making the Facebook rounds, and be less inclined to help.

Great point. How many people won't make worthwhile donations because of what these awful people did?

And it was their pitbull??? I'm gonna be ill.

Was the dog euthanized at least?
If I'm following the article right ... three dogs were involved in the attack. The grandfather (?) shot dead two of the dogs immediately after the attack. As for the third dog ... can't tell from the article.

I knew she was mauled by pitbulls, but I didn't know until today that the pitbulls were owned by her grandfather.

What a special relationship this little girl has with her grandparents. Very touching. Make me want to call my Papa, God rest his soul.

KFC should take care of the girl anyway... Not that you want every schmuck coning you but I think it would be a solid PR move at this point.

I knew this was BS when I heard it too. Nobody would throw a 3 yr old girl out of a store because her face disturbs customers.

This was my initial thought. It would take a meeting of the two biggest jerks on the planet. A customer to complain and an employee to ask the girl to leave.

I actually used to work not too far from where that KFC is located. The whole story seemed suspicious from the start. Maybe it's the cynic in me, but when I read the reports and talked about the family issues and the fact that it was the granddad's dogs who had done it I was suspicious. If you are careless enough to let that happen, you may be capable of trying pretty much anything. I read something in a Clarion Ledger article online (Jackson newspaper) where a KFC employee was saying how they had people throwing stuff at them through the drive through, harassing them, threatening them, calling in death threats, etc. since all this started. The manager and employees there took unbelievable criticism over this time for something they didn't do.

They already gave her $30k
I'm sorry I thought the question posed was whether or not KC should seek a lawsuit or some sort of reprocution for this action....

Should the franchise owner of the KFC sue the grandmother? What happens if their business suffers and even go out of business?
Oh, it was.

By taking the higher ground KFC would do itself a favor. Difficult to go after the family without punishing the girl who the public already has sympathy with. Maybe ensure that whatever was given goes directly to the childs health care and the family doesn't see a cent outside of that.

The little girl should get the money and the surgery, and the grandparents should at least face some type of fine for what their dogs did, and if it's found that they perpetuated the story, they should be put in jail for some time. I will say, however, that it's more important this girl receive the help she needs.

Odds the grandparents are tied up in dogfighting? 11 pit bulls? 3 of them vicious enough to break down a door and maul that little girl?

this story is all about what the country has become, accusations, innuendos, hillbillies, social media, shaming, blaming and as quickly as possible, jumping to conclusions.

nothing better than people who know nothing about a situation making conclusions in 1 minute.

I still stand by my deep fried swirly request.

I bet I'll get 10,000 signatures of support with a table at the state fair next to the deep fried twinkie stand.

If you can't beat them, join them????

I know it's not a cool stance nowadays, but I think KFC should be commended here. Someone tries to paint them as the bad guy, and even after finding out that it was a lie, they still say they are behind getting the kid help.

They have revenue of 23 billion.

They donated 30k which they get to write off.

Lets not make them out to be some kind of saints.

I know everyone is rightfully ripping the family to shreds for lying but if their goal was to raise money for the girl's medical expenses, consequences be damned, didnt they accomplish that goal? Wouldnt you do anything for your child? Beg borrow cheat steal?

Why not? They gave money to a family who tried to scam them. Why should they give anything? Who cares how much they give or how much it impacts their bottom line?

This is one of the problems with the US lately. Everyone is ungrateful. People see corporations or billionaires that give money and their first thought is "Why didn't they give more?"

I think there are better ways to do it. I mean, I see your point. But it's still not cool to deceive people.

Yes they accomplished that goal. I would not do "anything" for my child. I'm not committing murder or robbing banks for my child. And I'm not taking advantage of the anti corporation mentality that currently exists in this country to extort money from them. I have morals and ethics.

Sure ... with the knowledge that I must trade my freedom for all the cash I gained by fraud. While I can agree with the "greater good" argument, that doesn't mean the grandparents shouldn't pay the usual consequences for these types of crimes.

All companies of that size give copious amounts to charity. Strange to assume that this little girl is the one and only person Yum Brands ever helped through charity.
