Kicker by committee (1 Viewer)

I know a lot of you pick a defense based on weekly matchups, but what about kickers? What makes a good matchup for a kicker? Just the team that should score the most points that week? Or is there more to it than that?

For example, this week I'm thinking Nick Folk might actually be a good matchup vs. Chicago. The Cowboys should still move the ball, but some of the drives that would normally end with touchdowns will end in field goals against the Bears.

Any thoughts on this?

Kickers to me are a roll of the dice any week. That's why I don't pick one until the last round or so and usually just drop him on the bye week for whoever's left on the WW. But if there's any criteria to decide between WW kickers I take the one with the better overall matchup. And then if there is more than one guy in that criteria I go for the team playing the best D.

And I never take a NYG or Parcell's coached kicker.

Our league gives extra points for FGs over 40 yds and for over 50 yds, so I like kickers who have proven they can make these kicks, or more importantly, their coaches trust them to attempt these type of kicks. For KBC purposes, I definitely go for the K on the team that I believe will have the most opportunities (ie decent offense going against a decent defense). I avoid the K that play for bad offense all together.

as far as kicker by committee....I think it's a constant headache, and rarely a good idea. It's also nearly impossible to predict, no matter what anybody says.

Having said that, I say stick with Folk the rest of the way. After all the top tier guys, he seems as good a bet as any right now.l

generally speaking...home team, good O, but an O without an obviously strong redzone presence like TO or Moss, D capable of getting turnovers based on the matchup and thus some short field opportunites, and strong opposing redzone D. Alot to digest for a kicker, so just close your eyes, cross your fingers, blindly pick one, and hope for the best.

If juggling kickers, I look for K playing in a dome and an offense that puts up points.

I don't like K vs. Chicago because they do tend to stand their ground even within FG range.

About the best you can do is try to predict a high scoring game and go with that kicker. It is a real crap shoot because you never know if a team will score tds, not move the ball, or get held to field goals week to week. The Eagles pretty much stunk this week but Akers scored well.

I think you're usually better off starting Ks versus bad defenses, not good defense. The problem with "they'll have to settle for FGs instead of TDs" logic is that many potential scoring drives never get into FG range in the first place.

After four or five weeks, check out any "points against" data (I think FBG runs some numbers, or if not, MFL does for any leagues you host there) and look for patterns.

I read an analysis a few years ago on a competing web site there is a strong correlation between kicker performance and team wins. More wins = more kicker points (seems obvious I know).

If you scour the wire for kickers look for teams that you think will win their game. If there are a few then go with what you perceive to be the strongest offense.
