Kickers (1 Viewer)

Which kickers look like good options this year? I usually try to stay away from the "name" PKs, and draft a guy late who plays on a decent offense, but one that might stall in the red zone. Any ideas about who fits that bill this year?

I'm thinking Pitt might be one such team, with the RB issues they are having, but I watched Suisham kick for the Redskins for too many years to have faith in him.

Any guesses about which teams might be able to move the ball, but stall when they get close?

Oh yeah.

Graham Gano won me my title last year, so let's do this.

I want a kicker in the 12th round or $1 in auction...

Bailey is no longer a secret, and Gostkowski is always gone, both will be too expensive, Akers and Janikowski also, so....

Garret Hartley might be under the radar, Kasay was great but might not return, he has already missed 2 kicks this preseason.

I like Bironas to make a comeback this year, Jason Hanson is solid, and Mike Nugent put up good points last year. Neil Rackers is with WAS this year, with a rook QB they may be near the end zone a lot but not in it. That's what I have so far.

Like all those for that good blend of opportunity meets ability.

And I know kicker is such an afterthought but in most leagues that offer any type of decent scoring for kickers, extra increments for longer ones, and even penalties for missed ones, I really don't know why people don't take a much harder look at kickers.

Last year, in one league I play in, the difference between a guy like Akers and a really good guy like Bailey was about 3 points per week and against a guy like Seabass was 2 points a week? Doesn't sound like much, but per week,..adds up.

Looking at it another way, that's the same difference (averaged per week) as victor Cruz and Brandon Marshall or Dwayne Bowe.

Now, take that advantage to something like Akers vs. "just some guy" you pick at the end of your draft...say...matt bryant or Dan carpeneter (guys that are name guys, known to be on a team with opportunities). Now that advantage is is a little over 4 points a week or, in other words, the difference between Eli Manning and Mark Sanchez.

I just got Bailey with the next to last overall pick in my draft, so I think he's still pretty easy to acquire.

If I don't get him, I'm taking Bullock. You run the slight risk that he will not win the job in Houston, but if he doesn't, you should be able to grab Shayne Graham off the wire, who is a good kicker in his own right.

I honestly don't put too much thought into things and just take whoever Mike Herman has ranked higher. This is the one position where I put my trust into someone elses rankings.

I think with Little a year more experienced, the additions of Gordon and Weeden, and Trent Richardson toting the rock now, Cleveland may be just good enough to get into FG range pretty often without actually threatening to score TD's. Combine that with Dawson's big, accurate leg, and you've got a recipe for...well, for another startable guy.

Probably worth noting though:

Over the last three years, in pretty standard scoring, Aaron Rogers has been the top scoring QB by an average of about 20 points per year.

Over the same span, David Akers has been the top scoring kicker by an average of about 25 points per year.

If you wanted to reach.
