Kids Swing/Playsets (1 Viewer)

Parents, any recommendations on quality swing sets for a soon to be 4 year old? Nothing huge as we are on a corner 1/3 acre lot so back yard isn't too big but want something more than just swings and that won't look like junk a year later.

We have a narrow backyard and I installed in a "space saver" swing set like this one:

I don't think it was as much money as that one. More like $1500 including the slide, swing accessories and the thick rubber pads I put under the bottom of the slide and swing (and then covered with playground wood chips).

It's been great and the kids love it. 5 years and running...

PM Otis. He was in the market for one recently. I think it was Otis....I honestly can't remember.

Either way, PM Otis. He'll either know or point you in the right direction.

This advice also applies if you're looking for some handyman/landscaping negotiating advice, losing weight, or buying kinda classic cars.

Patent law, not so much.

What does that make the real Shuke then?

Hit Craigslist... everyone's always trying to get rid of these things after 5 years. I'm guessing someone would let you have a good wood set for free if you were willing to take it away. It would be double the project as you take it down and then rebuild it, but that's a lot of savings, and the wood sets shouldn't have degraded that much over the years. Our Costco model similar to the one posted above is about 4 years old and as solid as it was at installation.

I can't find a pic online, but we got a pretty basic one. Cedar, but vinyl covered, so I don't have to do crap in terms of refinishing it etc. over the years. It's got one slide, three swings, and a ladder up to a small covered platform at the top of the slide. Again, not basic, we didn't have a ton of space either, and the wife didn't want something with monkey bars or fancy climbing stuff.

The kids love it, great purchase.

Found it:http://www.woodenplayscapes.com/gorilla-playsets-blue-ridge-space-saver

Blue Ridge Space Saver. I got it for $1299 five years ago. Looks like it's $1499 now.

It's very well built and still going strong. Wouldn't change a thing.
Nice, did you pour concrete for all posts or do you think its OK without?
No concrete, it's fine without.
I didn't do concrete footings but instead bought 2 3' long steel spikes that I drove in the ground on opposite corners of the main posts, and then screwed the steel posts into the main wooden posts to secure them. There's a little bit of play in the main structure when my oldest is swinging like a madman, but it's still holding up really well and it doesn't seem unsafe at all. If I did have the stomach (and back) to dig 4 holes to set the posts in concrete, I would probably do it.

I for one dislike radical change like this.

Here's the one I got:

http://www.amishdirectplaysets.com/vinyl-swing-set/vinyl-swingset-A-3.html

Except the ladder and slide and swapped locations in our install. But this was a good size for our yard, just enough stuff for them, and the vinyl cladding means I never have to do squat with it, except maybe a power wash at some point. So far so good.

The one thing I worry about is the lawn underneath it eventually just being mud. So far it's not too bad, but eventually may need to do some mulch or something.

So do I. We all need to accept that it happens, though.
