KITNA (1 Viewer)

hope this helps:

Jon Kitna says doctors have initially told him that his sprained knee doesn't involve any structural damage.

It's unclear if he sprained a ligament. The Lions could return from their Week 4 bye with a new starting QB, so it may not be much of an issue anyways.

Thanks and Ouch! Guess I better start looking for another QB. But man, he put up some numbers last year. Are they really gonna ditch him three games in??

--------------------------------------------------------

SAN FRANCISCO — Jon Kitna sprained his right knee in the final minutes of Detroit's 31-13 loss to San Francisco on Sunday, and the Lions didn't know how long their veteran quarterback would be sidelined.

Kitna, who went 15-of-30 for 146 yards, was hurt while getting pulled down on a sack by 49ers linebacker Parys Haralson with 1:50 left in the fourth quarter. The 12th-year pro hobbled to the bench, where the team's medical staff surrounded him on a rough end to his 36th birthday.

"It feels pretty bad right now," said Kitna, who threw one TD pass and one interception. "I just got beat up all day. The play at the end was a culmination of four or five hits. The first one was in the first quarter. ... I just came down on my knee. Sometimes when you have a bruise or something's there, and then it happens again, the pain is excruciating at first."

So for the Detroit homers, if the Lions make a switch at Qb who gets the call and what is reasonably expected from this?

I have Kitna as my #1 and Derek Anderson as my #2.

Also how much does it hurt Calvins value if they make a change?

thanks in advance for any info

My advice about Kitna? Buy low on Drew Stanton
Not sure about the knee injury, but if Kitna stacks a couple of more losses on that 0-3 record he will be watching from the sideline. Not much sense in going 0-16 with a 36-year old quarterback at the helm.

Sorry to say this but if Kitna is your #1 and Anderson is your #2, Calvin's value (or his ongoing production) is the last problem you have to worry about.

Stanton is the future..if there is such a thing.

Would I be crazy if I dropped Kitna to make room for Griese or Orton? I'd hate to regret dropping him, but damn at this point his future is not looking good.

Also, his decent stats this year all came in garbage time in the 4th quarter. He has been on the verge of putting up about 3 fantasy points each week so far....

I have Warner, Kitna, and Anderson in a start 2 QB league. I'm 3-0, but I'm getting kind of nervous.

I hear ya. I have Warner and Kitna (drafted Brady in rd 2) in a start 1 QB league.

Kinda worried here, but as long as Warner can make it 'til his bye in Week 7, I have a little time left. That's a big IF mind you, but I think a couple more weeks of waiting won't hurt.

Should Kitna not be able to go or they just decide to make a switch who will likely get the call Dan Orlovsky or Drew Stanton?

You should consider drafting Leinart just in case if Anderson or Kitna lose their starting jobs. You could probably get Leinart for peanuts and you will be somewhat protected.

I think I might have more faith in Quinn producing than Leinart. And we can only carry 3 QBs.

Isn't Stanton hurt too?
Lions' Stanton says he's ready; Kitna says he's not the problemby Tom KowalskiTuesday September 23, 2008, 11:19 AMQuarterback Jon Kitna is aware that a change is possible, but he doesn't believe it should happen."I'm all about this team winning. If they feel that's necessary, then so be it. But I don't think I'm the problem.'' Kitna said Tuesday.Kitna also said that he's been given no indication that a change is quarterbacks is about to take place.Stanton also said that he hasn't been told anything."They haven't said a single word to me. As far as I'm concerned, I'm still the third quarterback,'' Stanton said. When asked if he's healthy enough to play against the Bears, Stanton said:"Yeah, I think so, definitely. It's not 100 percent but I think within the next week or so, I'll be there. I have pretty much all my strength back in there. It's just getting that grip strength back and being able to put pressure on the ball at a different spot and sometimes that doesn't necessarily happen just because it is a little bit weaker because of inactivity and having it immobilized for so long.''Stanton has been throwing at practice for a couple of weeks, but he was held out of 11-on-11 drills because the coaches didn't want to take the chance he's hit his thumb again and aggravate the injury before it had a chance to fully heal."After this bye, I'll be fully involved. To what degree, that remains to be seen,'' Stanton said. "Being the third string quarterback, you only get a couple of reps right at the end of scout team.''As far as having a mental grip on the offense, Stanton believes he could handle the workload."I think, for me, I feel comfortable within it,'' he said. "It changes from week to week depending on the game plan. I feel I understand the majority of it and what we're trying to do, but I've never had a chance to run it through a whole course of a game so it remains to be seen.''So, if called upon, he'd be ready to start against the Bears?"Yeah, I'll be able to play,'' he said. "But you can play 'what if's' all day.''

After most of his teammates had left Lions headquarters in Allen Park on Tuesday, quarterback Drew Stanton was throwing on an indoor practice field.

Stanton, a second-round draft pick in 2007, said he thinks his sprained right thumb will be 100% by the time the Lions return from this week's bye. The Lions (0-3) face the Chicago Bears at Ford Field on Oct. 5.

Jon Kitna, who has started every game this season, suffered a knee sprain at the end of Sunday's 31-13 loss in San Francisco. Kitna said Tuesday the knee felt better than it did Sunday. He was told there was no structural damage.

Asked if he could have played this week, Kitna said: "I don't know. It's only Tuesday."

Kitna has thrown five touchdowns and five interceptions and has completed 57.1% of his passes for 684 yards.

Asked Monday if lineup changes would be made in the future, including at quarterback, coach Rod Marinelli said: "We're going to evaluate every player. That's what we go in doing, looking at ... how we can get better."

Dan Orlovsky is currently second on the depth chart. He has played late in each of the past two games. His only pass attempt Sunday was intercepted. He was 2-for-4 for six yards in a 48-25 loss to Green Bay in Week 2.

"They haven't said a single word to me," Stanton said about a possible switch. "I have no idea. As far as I'm concerned, I'm still the third quarterback, and that's the way things are right now."

Stanton said he'd work on mechanics and regaining strength in his thumb during the bye week. He'll be prepared to play against the Bears, like always.

"You can play 'what if' all day," he said. "It's one of those things. ... I'm going to prepare as if I am going to play, and that's what I've done all along because if the time comes, I don't want to be in a position where I'd look back and say, 'If I had prepared better I would have been in a better situation.' "

HARMONY REMAINS: Despite an 0-3 start, newcomer Rudi Johnson doesn't see a bad locker room.

Johnson laughed when asked to compare the locker-room atmospheres of the Lions and the Bengals, his previous team, which has had several notorious off-field incidents recently. "It's different," Johnson said. "Different atmosphere, different people on the team, different personalities on the team. That plays a big difference."

Johnson said there's still time for the Lions to turn things around.

"I've seen other teams 0-3 come out fighting," he said. "That's what you gotta do. It's going to be a fight for 16 games, and you gotta go out and fight and claw for everything you get. We put ourselves behind the eight ball now. So, we gotta come out fighting and clawing."

(Rotoworld) Jon Kitna is not on the Lions' Week 5 injury report.

Analysis: His previously sprained knee healed during Detroit's bye. Kitna's TD to INT ratio through three starts is 5:5. His completion percentage is 57.7.

The word from the locals is that Kitna will start this week against the Bears and the next two after, which are both road games. At that point, if the Lions are in contention (basically meaning win 2 of the next 3), then Kitna will remain the starter. If not, that is the point where Drew Stanton will be considered.

The above is not official from the Lions, but it, or something similar, is widely believed by the local beat writers.

makes sense - not a good sign for those Det WRs unless Stanton hits the ground running.

Orlovsky is the #2 with regards to being the game day backup. He also is theoretically the #2 as long as the lions have a chance. We know they are done, but from their view, as long as they aren't eliminated, Orlovsky is the backup. There is little doubt Stanton will start later in the year over Orlovsky once the Lions are eliminated or close.
