Jones Present at OTAs; Continues his Rehab Process
One player present at the OTA session who was unable to physically participate was running back Kevin Jones. Jones has been diligently rehabbing his foot throughout the offseason with an end-goal of being able to participate at the outset of training camp.
Despite the fact that he can’t physically run through plays at this point, Jones has been poking his head into the offensive huddles to familiarize himself as much as he can with what is currently going on offensively.
Jones: “I’m just trying to stay in a groove with the terminology; watching the plays, the blocking schemes. (We’re) doing things a little different because we have a new offensive line coach (Jim Colletto). It’s not a whole bunch different but enough to have to pay attention to.”
Jones’ rehab process reached a new point yesterday when he ran on a treadmill – prior to that, he had been running in a pool in the team training room.
Jones: “I’m doing the bike to warm up and I’m doing some stepladder drills and just a bunch of drills to try to stay in some type of shape.”
Marinelli is also encouraged by Jones’ progress.
Marinelli: “I’m not going to be the doctor on this one, but from a coach’s perspective, it looks like he’s really progressing a lot. I think everybody is excited about it. I don’t want to give false hopes to anybody but what I do see is that the guy is hungry; he’s out here working and doing all the things we’re asking them to do.
“I just think it means so much too him – football is really important to this guy. Sometimes that mindset is so important. I’m excited about that.”
