Kong: Skull Island. Trailer from Comic Con (1 Viewer)

After Peter Jackson's debacle of a film I didn't think I'd be interested but that's a good trailer.

From the producers of Godzilla...

Setting up the 2020 release of King Kong vs. Godzilla.

This Kong reboot looks good.

I'm watching this tonight.
Something tells me I'm going to enjoy this far more than Moonlight.

Have tickets for Friday night. Wife and kid going as well. We love Kong.

This will be a rip roaring good time. As long as SLJ does not become the focal point of the movie like he did in The Legend Of Tarzan (which was a really cool movie and not really talked about) we should be good.

OMG.  Legend of Tarzan was AWFUL.  Now I have to discount any review you give Kong.  That makes me sad. :(

This has to be the most excited I have been for a year of movies ever. So far John Wick 2 was amazing, Rings sucked but I can't wait to see Kong. I just want a mindless popcorn flick that doesn't need to push a message. Give me a big monkey killing other big monsters and I am happy

Crazy very fun action packed movie with tons of Easter eggs. Sam Jackson was actually really good. Really good in IMAX 3D.

The reason he is so big is because they are planning a Godzilla vs Kong movie. I'm looking forward to this. Gonna take my son. It seems pretty safe.

I can't wait, but my wife and two kids sure can. They were pestering me for something to do for my birthday last week and I finally told them that if they loved me, they would take me to see King Kong when it came out. Lots of   .  Turns out my daughter is the only one who loves me as she said she'd go with me this weekend.

I'm okay with making him bigger this time around. Really, I'm just glad they went away from Peter Jackson's super realistic giant gorilla approach. That's Mighty Joe Young's territory, as cool as he was. King Kong should be a monster.

Good to hear.

I'm trying not to read or hear too much before seeing it, but please tell me King Kong had much more screen time than Godzilla did in that recent movie.

I might be crushed if he only shows up for less than 10 minutes of the movie.

I actually loved the Godzilla movie
I did too even though they got lazy and took the monsters from Cloverfield as his nemesis. Godzilla should have killed those things in no time. Now big Kong--that's a worthy opponent.

Can't wait to see this movie.

And they are supposedly making a movie before Godzilla vs Kong where Godzilla fights Mothra, Rodan AND King Ghidora

I liked it too, but Kong requires more screen time IMO.  At least he does if he still has some personality to convey, which I guess is another thing I wonder about this movie, but will wait to see it to find out.

I can't even tell you how much I loved Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster and Destroy All Monsters when I was little.

The director, Jordan Roberts, is young but a huge movie and video game nerd and totally pays homage to the asian influences of the kaiju monster genre. He and Jason Mitchell did a Q&A after the screening last night. Very cool to hear the stories about filming on location.

There is A LOT of Kong in this movie, no worries about only getting glimpses of him.

This was a concern of mine as well, but I think he nails his part in Kong. If you liked his other movies, you'll get a kick out of a lot of his scenes/line in this movie.

SLJ's character goes into a sort of Heart of Darkness tailspin. And maybe not so coincidentally... Tom Hiddleston's character is named Conrad, and John C Reilly's character is named Marlow... Hmmm
Just tons of easter eggs, video game, anime, manga and classic movie references. It'd be fun to list all the ones we've noticed in this thread.

Could have probably cut out the dear Billy character all together, a weak excuse for Jackson to do his thing.  I did enjoy that they kept upping the suspension of disbelief required.  The humans out sprinting building sized animals was the best;  "BRIE, Climb the mountain, you're clearly the least suited for the task, but we need you to fall off it later!"

Went with my grand daughter tonight it was very good.Samuel L.Jackson was starting to piss me off.
Okay, you can't just say that without an explanation.  You know better than that.
As the antagonist his job in this movie is to "Piss you off" and in that regards he nails it.

Thought it was well done. LOVED that, unlike Godzilla ( Which I liked) we didn't have to wait long to see Kong..  Enjoyable Summer  flick in March, can't ask for more.

A really great monster movie. Lot’s of little nods and easter eggs, and it set’s up the next few Godzilla, and Kong movies. Make sure you stay through the entire credits if you're a big fan of monster movies.

John C Reily was hilarious.

Lot’s of great action and set pieces.

I hated Samuel l Jackson, who I usually like.

He felt like a big cliche the whole time and that whole storyline was annoying.

Don't think it was any worse than Jurassic World. I don't know if I would take a child younger than 10 but it wasn't extremely gory or anything.
Agreed.

Man it was GOOD though.  Definitely stay until after the credits....

I really enjoyed this one.  It had enough nods to the original (and remakes) without being the exact same story again.

Yeah, a few of the characters were a bit cliche, but none of them annoyed me too much to take away from my enjoyment of the movie.

Most importantly, they treated Kong right. He's still badass and cool as hell.
