Brett Favre retired? Maybe not

League sources say his representative has put out feelers that the former Green Bay Packers superstar, who has not yet turned his retirement papers into the league, may want to keep playing.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, who announced his retirement last month after 17 seasons, could be weighing a comeback with another team. According to NFL sources, Favre's agent has quietly inquired with teams about their interest in trading for the three-time NFL most valuable player.

Favre, 38, has yet to give written notice of his retirement to the league or the players' union, although that's neither required nor irrevocable. It's also not uncommon for players to delay in doing so, particularly if they are not in immediate need of their pension money.

Reached today, agent James "Bus" Cook said he was not aware of Favre's interest in resuming his career.

"That's news to me," Cook said. "I don't think that has anything to do with anything. He's retired, period, point blank."

Favre's rights still belong to the Packers, who could trade him to another team.

The league sources said Favre's decision to retire was partially influenced by his frustration that the Packers didn't make a more aggressive attempt to sign Randy Moss. The team twice had a chance to do so, first in spring 2007 -- before New England acquired the All-Pro receiver from Oakland -- and again this off-season.

Favre retired a day after the Patriots re-signed Moss to a three-year, $27-million deal. Cook, who, along with agent Tim Dipiero, handles contracts for Moss, denied any link between the receiver and Favre's decision to retire.

"As far as Randy's deal with New England, there were never any negotiations with Green Bay," he said. "As far as I know, Brett retired because he was tired and burned out."

This will be like Elvis, every other month their will be a sighting.

No legs on this story. Who would he play for that has a better O than GB?

TEN needs a QB. ATL, BLT, CHI, MIN among others all do but their WR's are inferior. There isn't a team out there, needing a QB, with better weapons than GB.

Absolutely false, and you can quote me on that," his agent said. It seems unlikely Favre would forsake the people of Green Bay and risk a lifetime of doing local commercials for hunting supply stores.

Farve is not going to play for another team.

I agree completely that it makes no sense. I was jumping to the sports section of the LA Times to check up on the Lakers and BOOM ... this was the lead story.

Favre to Chicago. With his arm and Chicago's overwhelming raw physical talent at WR, the sky is the limit.

The guys who write these stupid stories are so ridiculous. The whole story is based on the fact that Favre hasn't filed his retirement papers, as though it's expected to be the guy's highest life priority the second he announces he's done. Who gives a rip whether he's filed papers? Jake Plummer hasn't files his papers either. Does anyone really think he's coming back? Why are some people always in such denial about a guy retiring anyway. It happened with Barry Sanders, and Tiki Barber, and others. People just refuse to let go, and don't want to believe that what the player says is what he means. There's more chance of me winning the lottery than Favre playing in the NFL again.

Id love to see these league sources this crap is citing.

This also seems to say otherwise...

http://blogs.jsonline.com/packers/archive/...y-in-touch.aspx

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he talked to Favre a couple times last week and the quarterback seems to be doing fine. He said the issue of Favre turning in his retirement papers came up.

"I talked to Brett the other day," McCarthy said Wednesday morning. "He even made a joke about it, ‘Do you guys need that cap room?' I said, 'I think we're OK.' He goes, 'I have to file those papers.' And I said, 'Yeah, but it's not really for time. I don't know what the severance pay is, but hell, after 17 years I think you'd have a pretty good nugget coming.' So, we kind of laughed about it."
As for any chance Favre would change his mind, McCarthy said no way.

:goodposting: LA has no team so it needs to generate stories to fill its NFL quota.....

Favre is never gonna play anywhere else, but Brett in Minnesota would be interesting

And Detroit gets a win, with Favre at the helm, AT Green Bay? Oh, that would be a PR nightmare. No chance.

hmmm.... Just in case, what would you say your favorite numbers are? :goodposting:

Clear case of, "I don't have a story, let's drum one up".

Keep in mind that sportswriters have space to fill every day.

Now, I didn't say I'd win Powerball or anything. It could be a $5 winner on a scratcher.

Only team that would makes any sense would be to sign with MIN. But I can tell you that he'd be considered a traitor in Wisconsin and sacrifice a lifetime of endorsements.

He can't sign in Minnesota or anywhere else. Green Bay owns his contract, and they most definately would not trade him to a division rival. He's done.

If he hasn't signed his papers hes not retired. Its not ridiculuos to expect a comeback.
Retirement papers don't mean jack. Even if he files them he could still come back. Last year the deadline to do so was November 30th. BTW - I'm not sure if Barry Sanders ever filed retirement papers. The Pack is currently taking a big cap hit because he hasn't filed. Of course they have so much room under the cap it isn't effecting them.Brett Favre ain't coming back (unless the Packers look like Super Bowl threats again and Aaron Rodgers suffers a big-time injury...lol).

As mentioned on ESPN tonight...with the quotes from Bus Cook denying this all....is that even if he does not file...the Packers can put him on the reserved/retired list and receive the cap room.Where I got the quotes I posted earlier mentioned that he and McCarthy talked about the papers as well.

Seems like Bus Cook, Favre's agent is the one that started this rumor. Very strange. He was also the one that said GB didn't really want Favre back. I wonder how much longer he will be Favre's agent.

No...it seems like this writer started it.So far Cook denies saying any of it...and now Favre does too.

Has he always been Favre's agent?
I believe so.

I don't expect Cook to say anything different. PFT "confirmed" that Cook did indeed contact some teams to determine their level of interest. I think Cook is doing his due diligence as an agent...even if his client doesn't have the desire to play anymore. If Brett didn't want to play for the Packers this year I can't imagine he would have a burning desire to go elsewhere and lace em' up.

and PFT is always truthful and correct right?

This Moss thing is really getting old. I felt the GB WRs were one of the strongest areas of the team. To write this shows a complete lack of knowledge about situation.

Does anyone in LA really know anything about Pro Football?

In response to Sam Farmer’s recent report for the Los Angeles Times that agent Bus Cook is quietly talking to other teams about a possible trade for retired quarterback Brett Favre, a league source tells us that Cook definitely had been doing this.
PFT linkThat's what PFT reported. Are you saying that no league source told them that? Or just generally bashing them?

Im saying they are not always accurate.Im saying they are quoting some anonymous league source...all the while Favre, Cook, and McCarthy are basically saying this is BS.

Well if Cook called another team, only Cook and that team would know. Someone on that team says he did, Cook denies it, and nobody else would really know. I'd guess it's at least 50-50 that it happened, since agents are not notoriously honest about private talks with teams about their clients.

Then there's the guy from the LA Times who said it happened also, though according to him Cook talked to several teams.

This is highly amusing to read right now, especially since we now have word that in late March Favre indicated briefly that he would unretire, before backing down. Not every rumor about Favre is true, but it should be obvious that some of the rumors have been the result of Favre's or his agent's actions. I don't believe every denial of theirs anymore.

Steve Farmer was on Sirius yesterday and he was discussing the article. It looks like he took a lot of heat and the hosts (can't remember who), were riding him about whether he feels "vindicated". He took the high road and said he just wants to see the story through and where it goes. Pretty good guy...

No but he sure did throw James Campen under the bus. He may not be fired but it sure hurt his standing for future jobs.
