my guess is that Portis will give it a go next week. I'm sure he's a prideful athlete and having seen Betts put up a better game last week than Portis has all year behind the same line has to be eating at CP.

maybe he'll do something and gain some value because right now he's almost worthless.

then again I hope he just calls it quits and doesn't risk further injury.

The Redskins have already ruled out Clinton Portis (concussion) for Week 12, coach Jim Zorn revealed Sunday.

Offensive coordinator Sherman Smith added that the team will scour their free agent list and pick up a back to be active behind Rock Cartwright and Quinton Ganther. Ladell Betts (torn MCL) is probably done for the season. Ex-Skins Marcus Mason and Anthony Alridge are available. As is Warrick Dunn.

The 'Skins shouldn't get too worked up about finding someone.

The last thing they need to do is let this season go to waste and not at least get a top 10 pick. As bad as the 'Skins are, being one of the 10 worst teams in the 2009 NFL is very difficult to do.

Then again, LJ or any current FA RB wouldn't hurt their chances of getting a top 10 pick.

James Stewart was a stud for me in 2000. Drafted him as my 7th RB and pretty much started him every week. Led me to the league championship.

career-ender? I think Betts' been around for a long time.with portis probably not around next year, the RB position is in serious trouble. the draft doesn't have a lot of RB's so the Skins better sign a good veteran for next season. Any idea who are the potential free agents out there?

I don't think it's definite that Portis is gone. I could easily see him back in DC next year.As for Betts, he'll be 31 entering next season, but ACL injuries aren't what they used to be. I'd guess he can still find a job somewhere as a backup.
