Johnson agrees to 6-year deal with Chiefs

The Larry Johnson saga is over.

The star running back Johnson has agreed in principle to a new six-year deal with Kansas City, and is expected to rejoin his team on Tuesday, FOXSports.com has learned.

While his teammates were holding two-a-days in River Falls, Wisconin, Johnson spent training camp working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Tempe, Arizona.

Financial terms of the deal were not yet available, but it is expected that Johnson will be one of the three highest-paid running backs in the NFL, along with San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson and Seattle's Shaun Alexander.

Basically works out perfectly.

No preseason work ala LT, no wear and year, should be fully recovered from last years work load.

Get in a few snaps in the last game, and he's good to go.

He is, and always was a top 3 pick in any format.

This is about how I thought it would play out. Avoids camp. Will get some preseason work and then he's rested and ready for 350 carries and 50 catches.

so I guess Priest can go home now....
Thats gonna be an uncomfortable confrontation. I see it going something like this:Priest: Wassup LJ glad your back with the team. (extending hand out)

LJ: (slapping hand away) TEAM What team are you on?

Priest: This team!

LJ: lol!!! Guess you haven't gotten the news yet. See you around old man.

Priest: :lmao:

LJ: (walking off) thats what you get for tryna short change my money sucka!!! lol

Disclaimer:

This was a dramatization and in no way reflects the thinking of the Herm Edwards or the Chiefs organization. These thought are solely the thoughts of one Larry Johnson and his agent.

Hope they put this on Hard Knocks can't wait to see it!!!

Sirius Radio said he trotted right out into the huddle and took a swing pass on his first play 70 yards for a TD. Did I hear that right? Can someone tell the reporters that the defense doesn't tackle in practice?

Let the hype begin.

ESPN.com's Michael Smith reported that the contract is worth $45 million, with $19 million is guaranteed. Of the guaranteed money, $12 million is the signing bonus and $7 million is guaranteed salary.

I had thought the guarenteed would be in the $18-20 mil range so that's about right. What I didn't know is what the total deal would be. $45 mil is a nice tidy sum no matter who you are.

Good deal for LJ and good deal for the Chiefs. Glad both sides came to their senses (since LJ is one of my keepers). $19 million in guaranteed money seems fair for what LJ brings to the Chiefs. Not quite LT money, but certainly close enough.

As a Broncos fan, I love this. We were probably going to be facing LJ this season either way. Now that he has a fat contract he finally gets fairly compensated for the ABUSE KC has put him through, and when he suddenly tears every ligament in his entire body on his 529th carry this year, this fat contract means KC's salary cap situation is going to be screwed for years to come. It's a win-win!

If you believe in karma, expect LJ to be fine and Travis Henry/Javon Walker have a season ending collision.Hoping for injury is pretty lame. :goodposting:

Or............LJ becomes the anchor of the offense for the next 3 years while the Chiefs defense gets dramatically better (starting this year). Also Croyle, Bowe and Gonzalez play to their potential and then the O-line improves (OK...I know.....it was simply a hypothetical).

Who said I was hoping for injury? Did you miss the part where I said that LJ deserved to get paid? I said that because no RB has worked harder and taken more punishment for his team than LJ. I don't want LJ to get injured. I'm merely saying that with Herm "The Undertaker" Edwards calling plays, injury is inevitable. He overworks his RBs like they slept with his daughter or something. It's sort of like saying that whoever played QB in Washington under Spurrier was destined to get injured- it's not because you wanted to see Washington's QB injured, it was just the reality of the situation given the scheme Washington ran and the plays Washington called (i.e. "let's not bother protecting our QB, I'm sure he'll be fine").In my mind, unless Herm Edwards changes his stripes (not bloody likely- this is Herm Edwards we're talking about here), then LJ is going to have his career ended prematurely thanks to sickening overuse. As a fan of NFL players, I'm glad that LJ got his big payday before that happened, because he deserves every penny. As a fan of the Broncos, I'm glad that the Chiefs are going to have their salary cap screwed when it happens. Like I said, it's a win-win situation for me.

I said *WHEN* he tears every ligament in his body because I believe it is inevitable, given the workload which he has been forced to endure. The Win-Win part is that, after that inevitability, Larry Johnson will still have been fairly compensated (win #1- LJ makes his money), and KC's cap will be screwed (win #2- one of Denver's chief rivals will be less competitive).

As an LJ and Omar Gaither owner, today is the happiest day in my life.
I think you may rethink this later when he is taking a pounding all year behind an inferior o-line with a qb that gets no respect from opposing defences. I love LJ, he is warrior. Having said that, his situation will result in him under-achiving relative to his ADP (#3)

It's inevitable that LJ is gonna tear every ligament in his body?

I saw the Torture Exhibit at Tropicana in Atlantic City... and I don't even think the Middle Ages had a machine that could do that.

Interested in hearing how this year's supporting cast will be worse than last years when he put up monster stats(2100 + yds and 19tds) ?
