Late-season dynasty IDP pickups (1 Viewer)

Some of my teams will fall out of contention, or were never in contention, this season. Some guys who aren't useful now but I need to remember to pick up late:
  • Nick Herbig - I don't know how he gets a starting role with Watt and Highsmith there, but between practice reports and production when he gets snaps, he seems like a good stash.
  • SirVocea Dennis - Lavonte David seems like a retirement candidate, Dennis and Britt could be the guys next season. Dennis is on IR so might be forgotten.
  • Jamien Sherwood - CJ Mosley is old and Sherwood has done will in relief... maybe they move on.
  • Tyrice Knight - Doesn't seem to be available in any of my leagues, but if he hits the wire, I'll snag him - Dodson on a 1-year deal.
  • Lukas Van Ness - I've been dropping him for Herbig, but Preston Smith is 31 and Spotrac lists an out this offseason.
  • Omar Speights - No idea what they're doing in LA, but maybe he takes another step and becomes their one LB for a couple of years before they trade him for a 12th round pick.
  • Jaylon Carlies - Speed's in the last year of his contract. Carlies seemed to have moved up to the primary backup before an injury, even if Stuard got the stats.
  • Ja'Whaun Bentley, Matt Milano, Shaq Thompson, Jermaine Johnson - if they got dropped while on IR. No guarantees they get their roles back.
Who would you add?

I already have all these guys......hahahahaha

Some guys I would add:
  • Azeez Ojulari - he may already be rostered after his last couple games but if he is not I would go get him. As long as he is healthy he puts up good sack numbers. Big help in big play scoring formats
  • Hutchinson: Dobut someone dropped him but you never know. Easy to forget a name like that after a few weeks so just worth a sanity check to make sure nobody dropped him.
  • Darius Mussau: put up big tackle numbers when everyone else was hurt and then he missed a game. Might be worth a dart throw
  • Barmore: Blot clot issue but if that gets under control he should be back. Worth a shot if out there.
  • Dallas Turner: Someone with a quick trigger finger maybe gave up on him.
  • Anfernee Orji: Showed some flashes with the Saints injuries at LB. Werner has disappointed and seems always hurt and how much longer is Davis going to be effective.

Yep, been watching all these guys or they’re already unavailable. Herbig especially, but I don’t see any path to starting except for an injury to Watt or Highsmith. And then Highsmith did go down and Herbig pulled something, so . . . back to the wire he went.

I’ve got one: Speaking of the Ojularis, BJ Ojulari suffered an ACL tear earlier in training camp, and he might have gone back on the wire. Plenty of potential.

I have Carlies and Speights stashed in multiple leagues each. Any additional color to add re Dennis, Mussau, and Orji? Those are the 3 names mentioned that were not already on my radar.

Cedric Gray should be back from the IR soon too. With Jerome Baker there now, he may not get any run until December, but given the trajectory of their season I imagine he'll get some opportunities before all's said and done.

And does anyone have any intel (good or bad) on Nolan Smith and Myles Murphy? Stashed them preseason then checked out.

Dennis was coming on and looking really good before he hurt his shoulder.

Mussau had a huge game when McFadden was injured but hasn't really done much since week 1. Last two weeks he is hovering around 20% snap percentage so unless there is an injury this year he likely isn't going to do much. I am not sure about Okereke and McFadden's contracts as to whether or not he has a shot for next year.

Orji like Mussau did well when he got the snap count with Gay and Werner injured. This week with both guys back he didn't see a snap. I liked what I saw in the game or two he was on the field. He had 10 total tackles (7 solo) on 87% snap percentage in his one game with both guys out so I think if he gets the time he will put up numbers.

Dennis is hard to judge because of injuries, but my recollection was that he was ahead of Britt, especially on passing downs, just before his season-ending injury.

Both Okereke and McFadden are around for another year but given their cap situation, lack of upcoming extensions, and the inevitable ousting of Daniel Jones they have the ability to re-sign them.

Tell me if you've heard this before- the Saints have future cap problems. Gay is a free agent, so I can't imagine he's back. Werner is signed long term, but has a cuttable contract after 2025. Both Orji and Demario Davis expire after 2025. Some patience needs to be exercised there, but there's a pathway if he keeps taking advantage of opportunities.

Dennis has the most attractive contract situation. They already have the QB under contract, likely have to extend him after next season, and his primary competition is a 34 yr old that expires after the season.

Dennis was ahead of Britt when he got hurt. Looks like he is done for the regular season so keep watching if someone gets an itchy finger.

Anybody have strong thoughts on which of these has more value than the others rest of season? My thinking is Elliss seems like more of the likely bet to stay relevant ROS (but ceiling is limited), while the other two have higher ceilings, but their playing time really depends on the guys in front of them being active or not. Trying to decide if it makes more sense to "handcuff" JOK or Al-Shaair in leagues where I have them, or just try to grab Elliss who may have more long-term relevance.

Diabate CLE - JOK Out. Short-term value seems high, but week-to-week.

Elliss NEP - Not really sure of the situation. Seems to have gained time at the expense of McMillan, but I could be wrong. Snaps have increased the last 4 weeks (33,35,69,85). Everything I'm reading indicates he'll likely continue to contribute ROS, but it's not 100% clear.

Hewitt HOU - Al-Shaair out last two weeks. Another short-term fix.

Depends on what you need out of the roster spot. Here is how I see it:
  • Diabate: If he gets the time he will put up good numbers. Cle LB's that play seem to be starter worthy for IDP. Problem is he is playing because both JOK and Hicks are injured. I am not sure of their timelines to be out. If you are in a dynasty I would put Diabate at the top of the list.
  • Elliss: Probably the highest floor as it looks like he has taken over for McMillian as he has gotten 69% and 85% of the snaps the last two weeks respectively while McMillian is down to 18% & 19% over that span. If you need a weekly starter for the rest of the year he is probably the guy
  • Hewitt: Similarly to Diabate in that he is only getting time due to injured starters. He will be good as long as he plays but that could end any time.

I imagine Hicks will be out this week, but return after the bye. Otherwise, why wouldn't the Browns IR him? We should have a read on JOK's situation by Saturday, probably sooner. The severity of his injury will be known once an IR decision is made.

Regardless, I'd proceed as if Diabate has just a one game cameo, but to Gally's point, he's at the top of the list in dynasty. The Browns have $lots$ of incentive for him to earn playing time and early returns have been favorable, so if that continues then future iterations of the team have him paired with JOK and Hicks goes. That's with a 2025 and beyond mindset though. This season strictly depends on the health of the 2 in front of him on the depth chart.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm in a variety of IDP leagues, mostly dynasty (but some I have a bigger need for immediate LB help than others). Thanks.

Don't forget about Jaylan Ford there in NOLA. Orji did show some flashes but I think Ford is just taking awhile to acclimate. I still like him.

Elliss has moved past Tavai in snap percentage - last week, he was their top LB. Bentley's not that good - Elliss has a shot at claiming this job ROS and possibly beyond.
