Why do these mocks love Felix Jones to SD? Is it because they need to fit a 4th rb into the 1st? Is it because they are losing their BACKUP???

Without a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rd pick, sd will NOT pick a backup RB in the first. ILB, CB, DT, OLINE are much more important then wasting a pick on a RB in the first.

SD may even be more wise to drop a few spots in the first or into the 2nd to pick up more picks or even a pick in 09.

I disagree. I think FJ is a soliid fit.You can't keep going with LT withoutthe all important insurance policy behind him.Losing Turner is huge, and Jones would be a fine replacement.An excellent choice at the tail end of the 1st round, imo.

I've seen several mock with Gholston going to the Pats as a LB. IMO, the Pats have gone on record as saying that they will not take a project early the draft and prefer experienced NFL LBers over guys that they will have to convert and train to their system.

IMO, if the Pats keep their pick and go for defensive help, they will either take a DL or DE to play as a lineman or they will go for a CB. I doubt they will go for a LB (or someone to turn into a hybrid DE/LB). That being said, I don't think the Pats would pick a 260 pound defensive lineman . . .

Interesting that he has no CB being taken until 16. The Lions are desparate for CB help and would take the top rated one.

This is one of the better ones, IMO from a Cowboy perspective. The more I've studied this draft, the more I think Dallas goes CB at 22 with either Talib or DRC, then takes Doucet at 28.

Its also the first mock I've seen with Bennett going in the 1st. Its going to be real interesting to see his combine numbers. His on-field performance would lend to that type of draft spot. His measurables may not agree. We'll see.

Insurance is nice but not at the price of missing out on an impact player in rd 1. they are primed to win now but need some help. An stud ILB, a #3 CB, DT depth (to help with the rush defense as Jamall W got hurt) are far more important then LTs backup. Sproles did fine and a FA guy like Chris Brown or Warrick Dunn (if they are released) would be great for a year. If SD had a 2nd, third AND 4th rd pick, i would be fine with the FJ pick.Turner was a 5th and with the depth of the RB class, someone will be there in this draft too.Not enough picks to take a RB when other needs are more pressing.

Currently true, but they should get a compensatory 3rd or 4th rounder for losing Donnie Edwards.I agree they have other needs first (replacing Florence and McCree).

But it can't be understated how much they needed that quality back-up RB in the play-offs.

Luckily it's a deep draft for RBs.

Rookie LBs would be a waste in NE.They don't have the experience to react quick enough to the stolen signals being relayed to the field. The Pats will always use older, more experienced LBs who they can extend their useful life with their alleged HGH program - Zach Thomas is the more likely target.
